Minor characters you wish you had more interactions with.

Post by Aranel »

Pretty much what it says on the tin! I suppose you can list more major characters too, though I'm thinking more of the background characters that seem interesting, but don't have much for them in the game.

Anyways, I wish Svana (Haelga's niece) was involved in more quests. She only has the mark of the dibella questline (which is a bit... ehh "controversial" I guess), though I always do it because I really don't like how Haelga lets her quests treat Svana. Apparently Svana has/had a relationship with Sibbi, which despite being a bit ironic, I wish there was a little bit more too it that you could dive into -- honestly I usually kill of Sibbi because imo everyone is better off without him and he is a pretty horrible guy that will NEVER face justice because of Maven, and even though Svana thinks she is in love with him, she's probably better off without him too... (As is Svidi, Sibbi's ex-fiancee). Would have been interesting if Svana could have been a marriage option; she does seem pretty sweet, and I would have liked being able to get her out of Riften.

I also wish another Riften lady, Ingun Black-Briar, was involved more. You have her "fetch mission" to collect some alchemy ingredients, but that's about it. I've seen how Maven threatens Ingun, saying if she doesn't get into the Black-Briar family's business, she'll be basically abandoned and left penniless... which is pretty sad. Ingun seems like the only "good" member of the family, and I would have liked to be able to eventually help her get a better lot in life - be it helping her finance herself so she can move away and maybe change her name, or maybe through another questline, be able to marry her and maybe move her out of Riften. I mean, my Dragonborn is filthy rich, so it doesn't really matter if the Black-Briar's "abandon" her... though it wouldn't be very wise for Maven, considering usually I end of becoming her "contacts" she threatens me with passively... which is just dumb, ahaha.

I wish Faralda had more involvement, too. She and another altmer lady at the college seem to be rivals/enemies of some sort, and I would have liked to learn more about it. Apparently there was a quest that would have made Faralda's disposition boost up and become a marriage candidate too, which is... disappointing it wasn't implemented. ALL WELL.
I also wish the other Companion members (ex: Athis, Ria, Torvar) also had more too them as well. The Circle all seem to have a little bit of a backstory, and you do run some various quests (job and personal) for them, but there really isn't anything involved with everyone else, which I thought was pretty disappointing.

Probably repeating what a lot of people have said since Skyrim has came out, but I also wish there was some questlines involving Rune, Sapphire, and Grelka, too. They all seemed like such interesting characters, but for the most part, you get mostly ambient dialog with them which was too bad. :c

Ohhh and I would have liked more to do with Sissel, a little girl from Rorikstead! She seemed pretty interesting. Atleast, if she becomes an orphan, you can adopt her though. XD

Sinmir. That guy in Whiterun that says nothing but "The security in Whiterun is terrible. Shameful is what it is."

I mean, come on, that could've been an awesome questline. Talk to the Jarl and persuade him it's necesary, deal with bandit attacks and wipe out nearby bandit lairs before they do attack, maybe recruit the Companions to help out patrolling, deal with the commander's hurt feelings caused by your interferance, set up a training center and encourage a militia...

Basically I think it would be wonderful to turn every single chance remark into a full-blown questline. That one sticks out, though.

That... would have been pretty amazing. I guess Sinmir slipped my mind - he always kind of interested me, and I really wish he was involved with something. Unless the bandits were somehow more interesting I think I wouldn't be TOO fond of having to go and wipe them out since there is so many radiant quests with it, but running interferance etc. would have all been pretty cool.

I also think it would have been cool if it was maybe it somehow a "anti-Thieves Guild" questline - like maybe joining it would have locked out the Thieves Guild, and the game acts like someone else is playing your role there (so Thieves Guild is progressing and getting more powerful again), and maybe something happens in Whiterun that leads you to Riften. I would think it would be neat; don't get me wrong, I like the Thieves Guild (...mostly for all the gold and early fences, but hey), but I love alternate storylines (stormcloaks vs imperials, dawnguard vs. vampires, and so on).

I'm totally with you on Svana. I wish there was some way the Dragonborn could hire her to clean or help out around the house. She looks so miserable and is so sweet.

There's some good suggestions up there. I wish I could make Nazeem envious that I actually make it to the Cloud District often. Also, and I've said this before, I wish I could have more interaction with Heimskr. I would love to take him adventuring with me.

That would be cool. You'd get her away from being picked on all the time, give her a bit of adventure, and maybe through some Dovahkiin privilege, take her on a certain hike.
Spoiler:
"I had a dream that there was a good dragon. He was old and gray, but he wasn't scary."
As for the Guild members, it would be awesome to go on some joint heists. We know Vipir and Vex did. And there could be different dynamics depending on who you're with. Some could follow you, some could lead, some could split off at certain points, etc. More generally, I wish Delvin was more involved in the questline. I'd want to see that Master-level Sneak expertise in action (with some colorful dialogue along the way). :)

I would like to do something similar, but with an option to join a cities guards where you go on patrol as a member of the guards and not just someone in a dead guards uniform, interact with other guards in the barracks etc

I like the idea of tying it in with the TG. And I agree, I wouldn't be too enthusiastic about the bandits, but I'm pretty sure we wouldn't get away without some sort of obligatory dungeon crawl.

Oh, that'd be great. A couple of actual personalities among the various guards, radiant quests involving 'check the city for disturbances', 'deal with threats on road towards (x)', and 'investigate robbery from (x)'. Plus a free bed, and probably training as a reward.

The executioner in Solitude, Ahtar.

I know you can recruit him but I was thinking he might present a way uncovering a sinister plot
Spoiler:
The interesting thing about him is imo he counts how many heads he's taken (in the twenties i think by the time he kills Roggvir)

So what if he remembers all their names over the recent months and what if they don't all make sense - they are imperial and stormcloak alike - and although the death warrants have all been signed by the correct officials, the victims are not all dissidents - digging deeper, some are in fact people who have something in common which has nothing to do with the civil war/Thalmor

Depending on whose side you are on in the civil war, Delphine or Tullius/Imperial officer contacts (or Solitude based npcs if you haven't done the civil war at all) can verify the victims who 'don't make sense' were not involved in anti Thalmor/Imperial plots and have all been approved for execution by a particular section of the Imperial office in Solitude

Digging deeper still, one of the Thalmor officials within this office is in fact under the thrall of a dovah/lost dragon priest living in caverns under Solitude and has been having people 'removed' when they have got in the way of foiling it's dastardly plot to annex Solitude as a sanctuary/eyrie for dragons.

It's mask/shouts are of the bend will variety and turn man and mer alike into followers, though the dovahkiin and other dragonborn are immune from this power. If Alduin is around, it intends to be rewarded by the master, otherwise it wants to establish an eyrie base for dovah, the geography of Solitude being perfect for dragons and defence

the plot would be triggered by asking Ahtar about the people he has executed, once you have befriended him in some way (or even drinking with him in the pub). Paarthunaax and / or the blades could all be activated to take them down - in fact, if the quest takes place after Alduin and Paarthunaax helps out, perhaps Esbern is prepared to grant P a pardon

Anyways, I would like to do more with Anska. She never even told me what the scroll said. :x

Plus she could of been a potential follower.

Madena, the shell-shocked Dawnstar court mage. It would have been nice to be able to bring her some peace of mind aside from just replacing Skald with Brina (who treats Madena much better). She's the only court mage without even a miscellaneous quest associated with her.

I always wanted some follow-through regarding the kid Uthgerd the Unbroken accidentally killed, too. At least she's available as a follower and wife.

Fultheim from the Nightgate Inn is quite the enigma - he carries around a Blades Sword, but nothing ever comes of it.

I'm near completing the Dawnguard questline, and Gelebor was a really memorable character. He's so tragic a figure I hoped I could have done more for him than just killing his brother. A questline to help him to restore the temple of Auriel somehow would be nice. Or to help him to develop a way to communicate with the Falmer and gather some of them to learn from him, sort of like Paarthurnax does with the dragons after the MQ. Or maybe even a quest to find out if there are any other surviving Snow Elves left. There's really some wasted potential there.

Runil, the priest of Arkay in Falkreath, is also an interesting NPC. I'd like if one could converse with him about the war, for instance, or if there was a quest that e.g. involved helping him hide his worship of Talos from the Thalmor.

Captain Lonely-gale, and the Mercenary Redgaurd guy, retired in Whitrun, actually the list is pretty long. I agree with the sentiment of Sinmir should be able to get more out of that interaction. Geeze Bethesda, we don't want much. This game is awesome, but we want more...we ought to be ashamed of ourselves. I keep going back to different NPC's to see if something comes up new, just in case I missed something. Is that wierd?

Next person I noticed: Olfina Gray-Mane.

Seriously, what we get about her is wonderful. She's got that forbidden romance going on (which I'd love to be able to help with), but beyond that, she's tough and independent and not afraid to show it. I walked past her today, and she gave me a pep talk about how eventually a woman can be seen as the equal of any man in Skyrim. I don't know if there should be a quest affiliated with that, but I'd love her as a follower, anyway.

There are so many, including several that others have already mentioned.

Two that come to mind are Hulda and Ysolda. We learn a bit about Ysolda but next to nothing about Hulda. I like the cheerful energy that she brings to her job. Since the two are connected, I'd have liked a quest to help Hulda retire so that Ysolda can take over the Bannered Mare. No, I don't mean a Dark Brotherhood quest. That would be awful, as Hulda is one of my favorite minor NPC's in the game. But maybe a quest that would deal with some sort of business Hulda needs done before she can retire and in which you would learn more about her.

Sinmir. Bethesda should have had him be part of a conspiracy to overthrow Commander Cauis instead of just sitting in the Bannered Mare and just complaining to the dragonborn, who usually wants to just sit there and drink their mead in piece.. I know he is involved with teh stormcloaks but he does nothing apart from that. Or prehaps he has his own milta and just cares about Whiterun.

Katria, The Ghost in Lost to the Ages. She's very interesting and it would have been nice if she stuck around or if she asked you to confront her apprentice.

Orthorn. Should have returned to the college and give us an insight to nercomancy as it's very underwhelming.

Lokir, or at least someone who is related to him. In the intro, he tells you that he's from Rorikstead, and the way it's presented you'ld guess that there's some kind of side quest there related to him, but nope. Seems like yet another instance of cut content.

Angi, she lives in seclusion in the mountains of Falkreath and teaches you to use a bow. She even has a bit of a backstory that her family was killed and she killed the killer. It's a shame she isn't a follower or even a marriage candidate.

Ahah, maybe Bethesda could hire some us as quest writers. ;P All they would have to pay me is the occasional paltry sum for Chinese food and have my name in the credits somewhere.
And the Chinese food bit could probably be negotiable.

I can't believe I forgot about Captain Lonely-Gale! I love him! I wanted to marry him and I was so sad when I wasn't able to. xD /sighs
Marrying a retired nord captain who isn't hard on the eyes would have been awesome, ahaha. But other than some ambient dialog about him apparently loosing his wife at some point (if I remember correctly), he doesn't say much else.

Also I totally second the earlier suggestion of Anska. I can't believe I forgot her, too! I love her, and she would have made a wicked follower and/or spouse option, too. I mean, she was a beast in that questline, I don't really know why she needed my help. I was so confused when she wouldn't tell me what the scroll said - and I was really disappointed that nothing came out of it. It would have been lovely if she had a courier go after you, for another adventure... like maybe she needed to find another scroll, since it was incomplete or something.

Olfina seemed interesting originally - on my original character, I never really talked to her, but somehow Jon died (dragon attack I assume) and I found her letter on him, and had a kind of "huh" moment. Her comments towards a female PC are sort of nice, too.
However, I hate her remarks towards a male character - and it's such BS when she says that /as you have a female follower/... Like, really? If he was scared of a "strong woman" why is Uthgerd following him around. :I When I noticed she basically threatens the bosmer food vendor's life though, I really started to hate her.

I loved Katria! You can find her apprentice in a random encounter on the road after finishing the quest, as long as you have the aetherium item with you. (I don't think it registers correctly if you sold it and/or don't have it period).

I really liked her as well. Not to mention her training session is great when you're trying to hit 100 archery, LOL. I'm not sure what kind of extension she would have - follower would have been lovely, though - but I think making it so she wouldn't have to live in the middle of nowhere would have been great. Sort of clearing her name/bounty/whatever for good.

@Aranel Capt. Lonely-Gale was one that Ursula wanted to marry as well, and as he was a widower, thought he may be able. Ursula appeared with her Amulet and after awhile, Ursula was running and jumping around, no clothes. Everyone stared, but nope.
