Sanguine Rose makes dragon killing easy

Post by clif9711 »

I was going crazy running all over the place in dragon fights trying to avoid the dragon's breath.

With the dremora created by the Sanguine Rose staff, you can stand in one place and let him do the fighting while you concentrate on the Dragonrend shout to keep the dragon on the ground.

Start with a fully charged Sanguine Rose so you don't get caught with it useless in the heat of battle.

The trick is to be ready to create a new dremora in front of the dragon the second the current one is killed. Position yourself where you have some protection (i.e. at the corner of a building or by a large rock) but a good field of view. Once the dragon kills a dremora, it will look over at you and then attack you unless you get another dremora in action immediately, so hold the Sanguine Rose trigger button down and wait while the current dremora fights as you watch from the side, aiming at the current dremora to properly place the new one. When the dremora dies, or the dragon grabs it, release the trigger and the new dremora is in action in the same place. Create as many dremoras as needed to grind the dragon down. Step out from cover only long enough to use Dragonrend and do it as often as recharge allows.

Try this and you should find that "there can be no other end"

Like dragons weren't too easy to start with.
but year, when i find a dragon i just dragonrend it and let serana and my dremora lord from the conjuration spell do most of the work, unless it's like a revered dragon, then I help with some magic

Wow you people really like killing from afar, i walk up to it was my razor and start whacking the crap out of it until it either dies from damage, or the proc from the dagger. Though now i'm kind of curious if i should do that with my rose, hrm, decisions decisions.

Bah, Dragonrend. Half of my fun is shooting it out of the air with arrows, bolts or spells. Sure, I end up losing a dozen or so arrows/bolts in the process, but it's fun.

Once it's landed, however, I proceed with the stabbing, slashing and bashing, depends on what's in my hand at the moment.

I suck at fighting dragons while they're in the air. Especially the dragons added by Deadly Dragons. Most of them do far more damage in flight than they do on the ground. Not like Dragonrend makes it any easier. It hardly works on higher difficulties. The fights with Alduin on legendary difficulty take forever because he doesn't stay on the ground for more than like...five seconds at a time.

This.
Also cheese for the OP. Letting summons distract the dragon (or pretty much anything) while you hit it is OK by my book, but letting them do all the fighting while you just sit back and keep resummoning them is just too cheap (in my entirely subjective and probably entirely irrelevant opinion).

Summons of any sort make dragon killing easy. Summon a Flame Atronach for a dragon with frost breath, or a Frost Atronach for a dragon with fire breath. Have a follower who is good with a bow and arrow. Then your character can focus on melée attacks. Mine uses Flame or Frost Cloak with enchanted weapons, sometimes Fireball or Ice Storm as well.

I'm actually a little confused about the purpose of this thread. Not intending to be [&@%!] or sarcastic in the slightest here, genuinely confused. Surely by the time you get Dragonrend, your character should be a reasonably high level with good, probably enchanted equipment, and not need to resort to tricks? I'd have thought dragon-killing advice would be more useful to low level characters who have leather armour, an iron shortsword, and not a lot else. Or is this for people who play on Master or Legendary difficulty without followers?

I dont even get why you would do that, it's super boring and pointless unless you really are so bad that dragons are hard for you

Yeah, I like Sanguine's Rose. High Conjuration is better but until you get that it really comes in handy in those fights that are out of your league. I only use it when I desperately need it (only used it on one fight with my current character), otherwise I use regular conjuration.

I just used my S.R. Dremora to defeat Miraak. Worked like a charm. Usually, I charge in an kick ass, thought I would try something different. I used it in Skulldalfin too. Fun!

The one time I played a two handed loving heavy armor wearing Orc and went to fight Mirmilnir (the first dragon you have to fight), I killed him/her/it with three hit from my steel war hammer when he landed (he was still at like 85% health). Granted I also used my Orc's racial special ability to speed things up, but still...

The bad thing about Skyrim's wide variety of ways to perform combat - magic, swords, archery, companions, shouts - is that it makes it significantly easy to simply "stack" these skills and cheat yourself through the game. Which is sometimes fun.

There's something I want to try sometime, but haven't yet -- using the Ritual Stone spell to create a "dragon trap". I was wondering if anyone else had done this? The thing is, any rational human being would create a trap if they knew in advance that they were going to be fighting something huge and nasty at some predictable time. Of course, this doesn't just apply to dragons.

You can carry human bodies (dead bandits) around -- so you kill a bunch and pile them up in one spot. Vampires and dreugr can't really be carried, but you can kill them, then drag them a little ways until several are close together, temporarily reanimate them as a group, and then have them follow you (even through the doors of dungeons) to add them to your pile of dead bodies. You give all your dead friends a lightly enchanted, heavily poisoned bow and similarly with a sword, and some decent (ancient nord) arrows. Add some dead monsters to the pile for fun, too.

You walk a fair ways from your pile of corpses, and then use a dragon soul to learn a word. Then you run back to your trap. The dragon shows up (as they always do), and you use the Ritual Stone spell to reanimate all your dead buddies. They jump up and send a couple dozen nastily poisoned arrows into the dragons tummy while it prepares to breathe on you -- and any that are left afterward will charge the dragon with their poisoned swords when it lands. I think it would be funny to see. :)
