Granted while some may have power, they lack agility. In a fleet.. yeah bigger guns are better.. but in terms of individual the faster ship can out pace and possible out-smart. If you had a small ship focused on long range and able to fight while running.. you'll be ore than just some pest<_<

The fire-power of a ship doesn't really matter here, we saw that last time, first rates mean nothing

True. But the faster ships would lack the firepower to take down a Man O War by itself unless it got very lucky.

Well, Torvald can always make friends. Granted not with the British, which take up the majority of Rpers, but with a good range and some good allies, he'll be okay.

She may be slow but she can deal a lot of damage.
Anyway, i'm looking forward to starting this tomorrow. Try not to kill everyone that is on your side, Pomcy.

Re: Rough Seas Redux: A Tale of Pirates and More!
Pirates and Privateers
The noon sun bathed the pirate-town of Nassau in a warm light, and the air smelled fresh as if a rain had just came through. Well, a storm had swept by earlier in the morning, putting many of the inhabitants into an ill mood. Sally Ransford found herself at the local tavern. Loud noises were all around her, from scantily clad women offering their... services, to a lonely guitarist playing a solemn tune in the corner. "You here to drink or what?" A grumpy old geezer said from behind the bar, wiping out a glass with a filthy rag.
All the while, the crew of The Lady Lucine had just arrived at the docks, though for what reason was unknown for any, save themselves. To the crew, the town seemed poverty stricken and filled with chaos, though not much more could be expected from a pirate town such as this. This was when a man, presumably the dock master, started his stride towards the ship. "Excuse me! May I speak with the captain?" he announced once he arrived within shouting distance.
The British
All three ships, the HMS Imperator, the HMS Equaliser, and The Osprey, found themselves at the docks of Spanish Town, Jamaica, oddly at the same time. "Sir, we have made port at Spanish Town!" each captain could hear from their cabins. It was here that each captain had been ordered to sail for, presumably for reassignment.
Don Leon
From his small raft, the scenery changed very little for Don Leon as he floated along in the Caribbean. In the distance, he might spy the odd breaching whale, or perhaps a seagull flying in the opposite direction. As a cloud covered the sun, he might have spotted a distortion upon the horizon. What it was could not be seen at this distance, though it did seem the seagull seemed attracted to it.

Avery Llywelyn walked out on deck and observed the docks, he noted the two other British vessels, and remembered his own. It was quite different from the others. Mostly because of it's title. The ship wasn't yet His Majesty's, having recently been captured and had not yet been properly christened a British vessel.

Henry was already on deck. He wanted to see the ship come into port. He looked at his Captain as he emerged onto the deck and remained silent.
So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?

Re: Rough Seas Redux: A Tale of Pirates and More!
Leonard was shuffling his cards, leaning upon the railing. Shuffle, shuffle. Queen of hearts, Ace of spades. Jack of diamonds. These flashed through his hands, the rims tough and almost sharp. He glanced over at the navigator and the captain. "A port of a city, taken by filthy heathens or liberated by men of grandiose and expensive fortunes?" He said softly in his round about way. "Perhaps a future can be found here, perhaps a past will be uncovered. Would the ones who hold sway over enjoy, or would they detest? Presents are always gifts.." He looked at the man asking to talk to the captain, placing his normal cards away, drawing forth his tarot ones.
Gazing at the man, he did a mild reading, one to get a base idea of him. Placing the cards upon the railing as he drew them, leaving them there before turning them over. "Are these twisted or true?" He asked himself, trying to gleam information. A free reading for his own benefit.

Re: Rough Seas Redux: A Tale of Pirates and More!
Standing proud upon his shameful boat, the old man held his oar and rowed with cheer. With the torn sails at their best and the salt thick in the air, his voice could be heard through the thick silence of day "Yo ho, Yo ho.. A pirates life for me.. Yo ho, Yo ho.. A pirates life for me..". The once grand Spaniard was all in bliss, as always is the life of Don Leon. Even in his harshest of seasons or bleakest of nights, he still found some way to be thankful for the life he has, even if it stands as a burden by fate.
As he rowed and singed, his eyes caught sight of what nature befell, from the whale in it's breath and the seagull in the distance. While he would love to swim with the whale itself, he would only sink and certainly be far from the most welcoming of views. Though prior knowledge told him to not ignore what little details may present, something invaluable to the common navigator. Leon broke from song to comment to himself, though alone he be,"A mirage I see? Land or ship or worse? Please these eyes, do not deceive me so, let luck take it's course.. but I dreadfully do hope it's rescue at last and not some ship full of ghosts.." He shivered in fear, but then paused to hold his chin in confusion "Or was that in a book I once read.. oh well." he said with a shrug of a man whom is care free. He pulled his ropes and turned his sail to face head first to the bird in the sky. In his ever slow pace, he paddled his way. While to an observer he may seem a fool, he knew in short a current should appear, using his oar to feel for the small differences within the water

"So you're willing to pay even when you don't know the price, eh?" the gruff old man chuckled as he reached beneath the bar and pulled out a dusty, web-covered bottle. With one swift motion, he poured the liquor into the same glass he was "cleaning" earlier.
The Lady Lucine
"What be your business here in our humble little town? Nothing sinister, is it?" The man inquired, his eyes narrowing in suspicion. Around the man, several dockworkers briefly looked up at the ship before returning to work with the faintest of smiles upon their faces.
The cards told Leonard of danger, though when and where were incredibly vague. All that was certain was danger was all around them, though for Nassau, it would naturally be so.
Avery
"Sir. A courier just arrived, the governor wishes to speak with you. Something 'bout it bein' there in an hour." A young crew member spoke, turning away from the aforementioned courier.
HMS Imperator
The pair was met by the same courier. "Sirs, the governor desires a meeting with you and the captains of these other ships. The meeting is to be an hour from now. Though you are welcome to visit the governor's manor, in the meantime." he spoke hastily, before running off to the next ship.
Don Leon
Within the space of an hour, or perhaps thirty minutes as time was a difficult thing to judge when at sea, a current did form, albeit a small one. With enough force to perhaps double the rafts already slow speed, it took considerably less time for the distortion to become more clear. White sails against a blue sky, it could be his rescue, or downfall.

"Depends on how much yer going to buy. Just pay it all before you leave, or else." the man warned, pulling another dirty glass out from under the bar and futilely wiping it out, only making the grime worse. She noticed a couple of rough looking men trying to woo a woman, though to no avail as she quickly slapped them both and stormed away. In a dark corner of the room, she noticed a man, seemingly unconscious from liquor, snoring away happily. Otherwise, it was just the typical loud bunch that usually inhabited taverns like this.

Re: Rough Seas Redux: A Tale of Pirates and More!
He eyed the sails and a grin from cheek to cheek, a ship was a ship after all! The drifter rummaged through his pouch, searching for his navigation tools. "Now where are you blasted bugger.. no.. don't tell me..." Leon felt weak in the knees, laying down upon onto his raft he sulked "My poor old telescope.. did the sea claim you so.. you were a good friend.. too young to.." Only at the last moment he realized his tool was stuffed into his vest from earlier. He grabbed it out, a tear in his eye, and held it out in palm like a sign from god "My beloved has returned!!"
With nobody to eye his entertainment, he hastily stood up from the raft and pointed his sights to the speck over the tide. His shenanigans could be postponed, he can wait to see if he may find a new crew to be among. "Now what do we have here.."

Re: Rough Seas Redux: A Tale of Pirates and More!
Avery's hat fell over his eyes. He let it stay there. He picked up two pistols and holstered them inside his great coat. He picked up his sword also and fastened the sword belt around his waist. "Fetch the first mate and tell him to accompany me" he said "keep her ship shape, we'll be back". He gestured towards the ship. He was planning on having a look around the town before heading up to the Governor's manor. He should arrive a little early, with his first mate.
