Started Feast for Crows today, and I feel like this will be a loooong read too like Storm of Swords.
Twice and twice shall he be marked, twice to live and twice to die.
Once the heron, to set his path. Twice the heron, to name him true.
Once the Dragon, for remembrance lost. Twice the Dragon, for the price he must pay.

Yeah especially since it's the worst book in the series.

Flatland: A romance of many dimensions.
Its about 'life' as told from the perspective of a square living in a 2 dimensional plane and the hierarchy that exists based on what shape (class) you are. Its an odd but interesting read so far!

I have no idea how so many people not only stomach--but are able to stay awake through those books. No thank you.Mars wrote:Yeah especially since it's the worst book in the series.
My celebrity crush Joe Abercrombie has a new story out. *rubs hands together* I will download it as soon as I finish Brandon Sanderson's novella.

I quit Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix to read The Hobbit instead. After all, Lord of the Rings: Online should make more sense now, after reading it...

Newtonian Mechanics by A.P.French, one of the recommended books for my uni course. Pretty good, if a bit dull. It explains the principles well and goes into a good amount of detail.

I read The Catcher in the Rye a few weeks ago for an English project, then Rick Riordan's The House of Hades last week. Now I've started Angels & Demons.
Start the groove.

Re: The 'What are you reading at the moment' thread
Last time I posted in here I was reading for school, and this time is no different. So at the moment:
The Merchant of Venice-Shakespeare
Faust-Goethe
Fences-August Wilson
Play it as it Lays-Joan Didion
Trout Fishing in America-Richard Brautigan
Don Quixote-Cervantes
Literary Criticism: An Introduction to Theory and Practice 4th Ed-Charles Bressler
This selection is just over the past two weeks. Next week I will have another whole list of things I have to read. I enjoy most of what I am reading, but I don't get to read for my own pure enjoyment anymore. I've almost stopped reading for fun, because all I do for class now is read, so when I do get some time to myself, I don't want to read anymore. Hopefully a time comes again when I can read what I want, when I want.

Terry Pratchett's The Truth. I picked this up months ago but due to Darren Shan and Percy Jackson it just remained unread untill earlier this week! Too soon to form an opinion.

The Great Gatsby is an amazing read. Kind of hard to get through at first, but rewarding. I'm still reading Brandon Sanderson's novella...but I need to hurry up and finish it so I can move on to my famous person crush Joe Abercrombie's new novel. Sigh.Sav wrote:Just finished The Great Gatsby

The Phoenix of Albion ( English Renaissance in the Wake of the Pestilence of 1348 ) by Stephen E. Seale.

Re: The 'What are you reading at the moment' thread
I'm loaded with books at the moment. Finished Skulduggery Pleasant: Kingdom of the Wicked by Derek Landy last night, and started Lockwood by Johnathan Stroud today. Fantasy/teenage novels I power through for relaxation. More serious stuff I'm reading back-to-back: Open City by Teju Cole and A Supposedly Fun Thing I’ll Never Do Again: Essays and Arguments by David Foster Wallace. I have a pile of other stuff that needs to be read, too.

I'm on my second readthrough of A Song of Ice and Fire, I'm near the end of A Storm of Swords. Seriously if you haven't read this series I would highly reccomend it.

Aaaand finally finished Feast for Crows, what with schoolwork and everything, so moving on to Dance with Dragons. It will probably take me even longer for me to finish this one as it's huge and exams are coming up.

I've never understood how anyone could enjoy these books, I despised them (although admittedly, I only read the first book). Each to their own thoughDerangedPickle wrote:I'm on my second readthrough of A Song of Ice and Fire, I'm near the end of A Storm of Swords. I've just started 'Island in the Sea of Time' by S.M.Stirling. Really enjoying it so far.

Re: The 'What are you reading at the moment' thread
Recently finished The Count of Monte Cristo as well as an Agatha Christie story (Peril at End House), and I'd just started Great Expectations when that was derailed by an influx of books from Christmas. I'm now alternating between The Walking Dead comics (Compendium One) and the Ron Burgundy "biography". It's worth mentioning that I also got a full boxed set for A Song of Ice and Fire... and considering the mixed opinions I've seen about those books in this thread alone, I'm hoping I enjoy them once I get around to reading them.
Start the groove.
