Backstory (At least a basic one.): Matthew is a [&@%!] child of a Swansea born Welshman -Connor Shaw- who was visiting London before he fled to America. As such Matthew was raised only by his mother and came obsessed with the sea hoping that one day he could set sail and track down his father. As Matthew grew up, his mother told him stories of pirates and it was something he always wanted to be, but he didn't want the death penalty- so he became a legal one, Matthew got onboard his uncle's ship until he died of illness leaving Matthew as the Captain two years ago. Though his actions could be considered pirate-like and he even mingles with them, he still reports to British Empire, it is after all how he earns his money.

If I recall, there is a port town in history that was an infamous place for pirates and privateers, and I see no reason to why nearby or other colonized islands wouldn't have a European fort<_<

I think it's called Nassu. Could be worth starting the Pirates there and it gives us an excuse to interact before the plot starts. As for the British, at port?

My first guess would be that Beta is talking about Tortuga.

Edit: Piracy stopped on Tortuga in the 1680s, so it can't be that.

I thought I had put that in the OP... But apparently not. Yes, the pirates will all start in Nassau, while the British will start in Spanish Town, the then British capital of Jamaica. Any privateers can choose either one.

Physical description: Physically looks like this. Has a black tattoo of Ouroboros, a snake eating its own tail wrapped around his upper left arm. Got it while drunk shortly after joining The Lady Lucine. Has no recollection of the event.
Personality: He is a charismatic and diplomatic person. A natural leader. He is more suited to using his mind than force and is a moral person who tries to do the right thing despite his profession. Is considered soft by some of his fellow crew members.
Weapons and related skills(Please list from most skilled to least skilled): Has a pair of flintlock pistols and a hunting knife. He has two pistols so he can shoot and then shoot a second time without having to spend precious seconds reloading. Trained in using the pistol in his teens and 20's despite laws against Catholics bearing arms. He is a very good shot with a pistol. He is less skilled in the use of a musket than a pistol, he doesn't use one much but he certainly isn't bad with it. Is somewhat trained in hand to hand combat since joining the crew of the ship. He isn't very skilled with using his knife in combat, he has it for more practical reasons.
Apparel: A dark green long sleeved coat that goes down to his waist which he likes to keep closed. A holster on either side of his coat for his two pistols. A black belt with a holster on it for his knife and various other pouches. Keeps an eyepatch in one of these pouches, it can come in handy as it lets his eyes adjust to light when going between somewhere bright and somewhere dark. A black tricorn hat. A white long sleeved shirt. Black trousers and boots.
Backstory (At least a basic one.): Henry is a member of the Butler Catholic Old English family. However he is pretty far from one of the influential ones. He was born in Dublin, Ireland. His father Albert is in his mid 50's and a merchant who oversees shipments in Dublin port. His mother Mary is in her mid 40's. His older sister Grace Fitzpatrick is 30 and married one James Fitzpatrick. She is pregnant with their first child, not that Henry knows this. She wants to name it Henry if it is a boy. His younger brother George is 9. Albert wanted Henry to follow in his footsteps and become a merchant. Henry followed his father's desires but really wanted to see the world. He was friends with a boy named James Smith. One night they were alone together and James kissed Henry. Henry returned it and they started to make out as Albert walked in. Outraged his disowned Henry and kicked him out. He kicked Henry out but didn't tell people what he was doing with James, likely to keep up Albert's own image. That was 20 months ago.

The night he was kicked out Henry headed to a local den of inequity. There he met Matthew Shaw who's ship was docked in the port. The pair talked and Matthew offered Henry a place on his ship. Unlike some other organisations Matthew didn't care about Henry's religion. With almost no money and few other options Henry accepted it. He thought that on the bright side, it would let him see the world. Before long he was accepted by the crew as one of their own. A month ago the old First Mate had his head taken off by a cannonball. Matthew named Henry his new First Mate.

Is bisexual with a clear preference for women but nobody other than his father and James Smith know. He keeps it secret from everyone. Is a good Second in Command but doesn't have much desire to be a Captain. Thinks he is probably too nice to be the captain of a Privateer ship anyway. Uses the term Corsair rather than Privateer because he likes it more. Enjoys playing games as well as reading.
