Rough Seas Redux: A Tale of Pirates and More!

Hidden:
The time is August, 1716. The place? The Caribbean, and then the entire world. Pirates, such as Edward Teach and Calico Jack, roam the seas, using their weapons, reputation, and guile to gather their fortunes and large amounts of rum.. It is among men like these that you will achieve reknown. But will it be as the next great pirate, or the one who brings them to justice? In this time of superstition, who knows which path you shall follow? Or even, if you will recognize the path that you are on, for there is much more to this world that what meets the eye.

Hunger/Thirst (As borrowed from Hope Falls. Thanks, MM!)

Combat
Combat is based upon how I feel the action should succeed. This means that the more description the better if you wish to have an action go as planned. Ship battles will require co-operation between Captains and Crewmembers and a somewhat decent amount of description, though not as much as land-based combat.

Guidlines
-No godmodding
-Try to avoid OP characters
-You do not have to be a Captain. You can choose to be a crew member for anyone. Or you can Co-Captain with anyone willing.
-Captains are not locked into positions, a mutiny can happen. If this does occur, common procedure is to leave you on an island with one canteen of water and a single pistol with enough powder for one shot. It is up to you to find an escape and regain a ship and crew, or kill yourself. Whatever works for you.
-All others serve under the Crown of their respective Nation.
-Allegiances can be changed, but only once or twice, if you can give me a good reason.
-Curses and Abilities are no longer available at the beginning of the RP*. The option to be cursed may be presented throughout the course of the RP, depending on the actions of the character.
-I understand that sailing does take time, usually 3-10 days depending on the distance traveled. I will try to keep things interesting by giving you as many opportunities for adventure as I can. It is up to you, or your captain, to act on those opportunities.
-Any treasures gained will be divided by the following passage, which is subject to change as needed by me(I'm the DM, I can do that); All receive their fair share.
-While there is a story, it is not obvious at the beginning and will require a large amount of work to even find. Once it is uncovered, further details will be revealed. Until then, happy hunting.
-All pirates shall start in Nassau, while the British will start in Spanish Town. Privateers can choose either option.
*This can be negotiated if discussed with me through PM's.

Wealth System
In an effort to encourage looting of other ships by pirates, and the capture of pirates by naval forces, I have developed this wealth system. All naval forces need not to worry about having to pay for the repair of their ships, nor the supplies they will need. Pirates on the other hand, will have to pay for repairs and supplies, unless they can find them through other means. Upon the capture of a pirate vessel, the accumulated wealth will be transferred, and split if necessary, to the naval vessel or vessels responsible. The system is as follows:
Currency in this world is divided into three categories: Silver, Gold, and gems of varying sorts. 10 Silver= 1 Gold, while 10 Gold= 1 Gem. These can be used for any transaction including, but not limited to, repairs, rum, whiskey, food, prostitutes, and any other commodity.

So, just to get this out of the blue, any returning characters have to be void of curses, or namely any proof of magical aspects?
Example: A witch doctor... who really doesn't have any power or proof.. other than being >_> different than most

That's where the "PM me" aspect comes in. It's really going to be on a case by case basis.

@POMC: I'm assuming you are aware that at this point the "Union" consisted only of Scotland and England. Ireland was still a separate kingdom until the start of the 1800s. George I was King of the separate kingdoms of Great Britain and Ireland.

I'm considering joining. Don't know if I will or not. Would probably be an Irish person if I did. Are Corsairs allowed? Then again I don't think there was much for Corsairs to do at the time, why so many of them became pirates.
So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?

Yeah, you could be a corsair if you wanted. It would be a bit like being part of a Navy, just a little more freedom in how you accomplished your goals.

I might join then. Don't know. I'm assuming people will be able to join after it starts. I'd be extremely tempted to put an Ouroboros tattoo on a Corsair character.

Returning characters are permitted, yes?
If so, then:
Hidden:
Name: Allen Søndergaard (Can be Anglicized to Soendergaard or just Sondergaard if you'd prefer typing it that way) or the "Dread of Fredericia"
Sex: Male
Age: 32
Physical Description: A tall, broad-shouldered man with a medium muscular build, Allen boasts a typical dishwater blond hair color of a medium length (right about to the lower-middle of the forehead, a few inches in length but nothing too long). His eyes are a deep, crystal-like baby blue with an orange-yellow ring seeming to invade the center near the pupil, giving the eyes a strange, ethereal appearance at first glance.
Despite boasting a rather large bone frame, Allen is remarkably fit, and has gained a fair musculature from his days upon the sea. On the underside of his head and upper neck, he has a significant series of scars, from the coarse rope that he narrowly escaped from in Fredericia's town square. He also retains extreme scarring all across his hands, legs, and torso, after being tarred and feathered by a band of pirates.
Personality: Day by day, Allen is charismatic among people, boasting a well-grounded personality and having an ego that might be a tad too big. Though, when first meeting him, Allen can appear slightly off, internally assessing each person he meets. Get him angry, or provoke him in anyway, and Allen seems to fall into a state of extreme internal calculation, until he finally becomes angry enough to slit the throat of whoever crossed him.
Think Hannibal Lecter without all the cannibalism
Weapons and related skills: Most skilled with his rifled, early-issue Charleville musket. Is adept with a smallsword, but prefers the agility of a bayonet or dagger. Has had some experience firing cannons and pistols, but is not very talented with either.
Apparel: Typically Allen wears heavier leather-based clothing over casual cloth garments, mostly to keep dry on the sea, but also to make any life-saving catches of an enemy blade.
Backstory: Born to parents Cato and Eila, south of Aalborg, in the serene countryside of Nordjylland, Allen lived a picturesque Danish life as a child. He soon exhibited sociopathic tendencies when in his single-digit years, killing and torturing small rodents and animals in his spare time; Allen's parents never thought much of his violent behavior, and dismissed it merely as "boys being boys". After a long and colorful childhood, he moved on to an interesting teenage life. When he was 16, Allen was caught in a heated argument with a neighboring boy, and the two got in a minor fight. Allen took the ordeal seriously, and stalked the boy for three days until brutally murdering him with a kitchen knife while on a hunting trip with his father and brother. Law never caught up with him, and he covered his tracks for the rest of his teenage life.
Being a member of a fairly traditional household, Allen was kicked out by his parents at the age of 17. He moved to Aarhus in Midtjylland, becoming an assistant and novice to a local fisherman named Fillip. After about 8 years, toward the end of Allen's term with Fillip, on a routine fishing expedition slightly off the shores of Aarhus, Allen and Fillip were captured by a small ship of pirates known to be based in Fredericia. The pirates had long-time personal qualms with Fillip. Their ship was taken, their payload of fish, and all the possessions/money they had on them at the time. The two men were returned to the shore on a rickety canoe, tarred and feathered from the neck-down, and gagged with the captain's work socks. Allen and Fillip were lucky they weren't killed. Months later, Allen heard news that his parents had been taken captive by the same pirates, never to be heard from again. Whatever grudge the men held against Fillip had now carried over to Allen as well.
After being humiliated by pirates and having whatever bit of a life he had destroyed, something in Allen's mind snapped, and he headed straight for Fredericia. He staked out in the town, taking to his old method, and stalked the crew of the ship after they came into port. For 10 days he watched, memorizing their routines, recognizing their personal quirks, until a few cold evenings, when he murdered each crew member brutally and gruesomely. Each crew member was killed nearly the same, their intestines removed and their bodies strung up in front of their household doors, upside-down. Though, every murder was hauntingly personalized, only slightly, as some crew had their hands removed or eyes cut out. The captain, however, had his face skinned after being stabbed to death, and the first mate's tongue was cut off. Witnesses testified to seeing Allen commit the murders, and he was sentenced to a lynching in Fredericia's town square. Fortunately for him, the rope was old and frayed, and snapped after a few seconds of bearing his weight. Allen narrowly escaped the town, and laid low in Kolding, working as a fisherman under the alias Cato Janssen, after his father. He spent a year in the town until he decided to join up with the British Royal Navy, to escape his persecution in Denmark and combat piracy. After making a rather lengthy trip to London, he joined up with the Royal Navy, and spent the next 6 years sailing the seas from the West Indies to New Zealand, accompanying trade shipments or participating in full-on sea battles.
He has never forgotten his grudge against the pirates of the world, and while some may even consider him a pirate, Allen will always be motivated by a burning passion to find his parents... or avenge their long-forgotten corpses.
Position that you desire: Captain
Ships type/size, Description, Name: The ship is known in the Royal Navy as the HMS Equaliser, she is a Third Rate vessel that has been used in the past to protect trade vessels in the West Indies.
Pirate's Code for your ship: Men on Søndergaard's ship have very little expectations, and drunken brawls and quarrels between sailors are not uncommon, sometimes encouraged. The only rules are standard ones in place to keep the ship running.
Captured women are treated rather poorly, and sailors are known to be just as brutal in treatment as some pirates...
Your flag: The Union Jack, of course.
Other: Allen has the mind of a stone-cold, highly intelligent serial killer. He has no expectations or limits when it comes to morals, specifically mercy. He is ruthless and will do whatever is necessary to get what he desires.

Accepted Veets.

And dovah, for a Man O' War, you really didn't have that much artillery, save for the mortars. But be aware that they don't really work the way the AC 4 portrays them. And I'll handle the NPC's, unless you just have a few that you really want on board. Send them via PM, if the case.

That's not the point I was trying to make at all. The number of mortars you already have is enough. As for cannons, you'll always have the opportunity to add more throughout the course of the RP, assuming you can save enough wealth. So for now, I think you should just leave it.
