I play on Adept at the moment. Only difficult I've played on actually. I usually stick with the default or one above it in TES games and Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. It does feel like it was designed to be on that difficulty. Might change up to Expert, don't know.

After about two months I moved from adept to expert. I feel like it provides a good middle ground between too hard to play the way I want and this is so easy I'm bored.

In my new playthough I went with Normal until I got the Extra Effect perk in Enchanting. Then I slowly cranked it up to Legendary.
That one perk is truly a game changer.

master, my dude had pretty much finished leveling by the time legendary was brought in, and I'm happy enough with the smooth way he balances with master - using just Become Ethereal, Dragonhide, Conjure Wrathman, and 2-handed charge - that I decided not to re-jig for the higher bracket.

if i start a new character i'll probably go with legendary, but as this is the first time I've ever made a godlike in an ES game, for the time being I'm happy just to have my main patrol his domain, and enjoy all the benefits he's earned.

I mostly play on Novice or Adept, sometimes I can't be bothered for a challenge when I just want to run around killing people, so I play on Novice.

My higher level characters play on Adept though to keep the game slightly balanced and 'normal' (although one of them just walks around handing out Kilos of damage here and there).

I'm quite the opposite, higher difficulty bores me to death, similar to challenges/discoveries etc. I just like to be the wrath of God, most of the time. ;-), hey, I've done my fair-share-of-fair-play :p

Adept. It's fair play, after all, with the damage ratio being 1:1. I get enough challenge that way until level 35-40 or so, and after that the character is so buffed anyway he/she should be an unstoppable killing machine. At the low levels, though, I sometimes switch to Apprentice for the hardest dragon fights.

adept never changed it from the start.

Lately when I play I'm not 100% sober so keeping my full attention is hard enough at some times

I usually play with expert to give me a bit more of a challenge and feel more accomplished when I get past a part that has killed me so many times, but master is a bit too hard for my liking.

Up until my current playthrough I would always keep the difficulty at adept or higher, and only ever lower it as far as apprentice if I died many times at a single point.

On my latest playthrough (an Imperial thief using 1H and Destruction), I seem to have overlevelled my Enchanting, Lockpicking and Smithing skills, which are all at least 70. Comparing that to 50 in LA, 1H and Destruction makes it clear why I keep getting my ass handed to me b every second enemy. It's got to the point where giants and mammoths are usually easier than common Draugr or bandits...

On Novice...

Adept. Anything above that is frustrating and anything below is way too easy.

Apprentice mostly but I think I'm going to switch to adept as the game has started getting too easy. I wanted it easy at first because I never played a pure mage before but now I think I've got the hang of it.

usually I play adept because my characters are normal everyday citizens so they're just average in skills and I tend to use only basic armour (if at all) and weapons.

I normally play on master but will switch to legendary when scrapping a legendary and a revered dragon at the same time seems too droll. :alduinright:

Legendary. It took me 40~ levels but I don't die to one hit from a dragon anymore. I had to rely on follower tanking to survive most encounters. Now I'm strong enough to solo an ancient dragon. Maxed out resists on dragonplate armor and acc's plus high block skill helps a lot. I still die if I have to fight more than one draugr deathlord though.

I play on master, since on lower skill settings enemies tend to do too little damage. Master isn't very hard other than the fact that enemies take too many hits to kill and archers do a godzillion times more damage than other enemies. I wish there was a skill setting that made both you and your enemies go down in a couple hits, rather than having either your enemies or you be super tough. Also skill setting doesn't have any bearing for stealthy players since sneaking difficulty doesn't scale with the skill level and sneak crit damage tends to kill instantly.

I never go below adept (well, except with a DiD character once) and that's usually what I play on. I use mods which alter the difficulty higher by changing how the level scaling of enemies work so expert is a bit too much for new characters especially. However there are characters who I play on harder difficulty. Mainly Yakov who is my highest level character.

So all this time with my main character I thought I've been playing at Adept.. nope, Master :wat: when I think about it, I likely had it at Expert for the majority of the time, and buffed it up once I reached Lv 20 and had my gear set, and that my test playthrough(for bugs and shortcuts) likely showed Adept didn't cut it.
I only discovered this when my 2nd guy was set to Expert from the start.. and I was confused to why things were easier than the former.. So yeah, now both my guys are at Master, same playstyle and everything, big gap in level<_< but hey.. at least I'm not playing on Legendary... that's just suicide... Still, my 2nd guy is a bit more fun anyways  less concerned for dying and taking bigger risks

Frost Mage wrote:For my current character that I'm obsessed with (I haven't played another character in like a month or something) I play on Expert because it seems like the happy medium, but I might have to put it up to Master now as the overpowered-ness of my 100 Sneak/100 Archery/100 One Handed starts to be more visible. I mean if I wanted to I could abuse the Level 100 Sneak perk that grants invisibility when sneaking in battle to one-hit everyone with a simple crouch-then-hit. Then again that does fit my character, as I imagine him to be very nimble and able to practically roll behind someone without them even knowing what was happening, and slitting their throat.

Anyways, what do you play on?
I go with adept or normal difficulty, since nothing is for you or against you.

I play on Expert unless I assume wolf form; then I drop it down to Normal.
