I'm failing to find much of a difference here. MMORPGs are still RPGs, just with MMO. Is there something I'm missing? I mean from what I've seen it looks like it's going to be Oblivion with friends across all of Tamriel.Jeelius-Tei wrote:It's not really going to be a multi-player Elder Scrolls. Strange, I thought they changed the combat so it resembled other MMOs (like WoW), and made the NPCs mutes (like in Morrowind).

Nope. Voiced NPCs and combat very close to Skyrim's, with a few concessions to MMO balance concerns.

I hope they brought back the agility and speed stats from Oblivion. I miss them.

Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
I will definately check it out. I have not actually played real-time with other players AND headsets, will we be able to fight AND curse? If so, I am in...I have enjoyed meeting others in real-time games, but we remained mute or actually communicated with beeps, it was weird but super-fun Journey, is the game. I played a couple of others, but ran into meanies, and that was not AS fun.

Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
They won't have done that; it would be far too difficult to balance, for one thing. It'll be health, stamina, and magicka for stats, with skill lines being things like weapons, armor types, sneak, that sort of thing. Again, much like Skyrim, but with the addition of specific skill lines for guilds, and the tying of magic schools to staves, and some skill lines particular to class.Jeelius-Tei wrote:I hope they brought back the agility and speed stats from Oblivion. You should probably check out some official materials to learn more about the game and clear up what you should expect.
Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
Buying ESO the moment it is released has been the only thought on my mind for many months.
Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
I'm starting to think that I cannot.
I'm already having a hard time with money, and I really only have about 2 hours a day to play it IF I don't work overtime, and the little lady won't want me playing it on my days off when we're together. I just don't know if I can justify $60 for the game, plus $15 a month to play it.

Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
While I'd really like to play it, I really don't want to have to pay subscription fees for it. $15 per month is way to expensive, and making us pay $60 up front just for game is just plain ridiculous. Unfortunately, because of the subscription fee and because ESO is being made by people who make MMOs, I'm guessing that ESO will be a grind-fest like every MMO that came before it. Grind-fests keep people hooked on MMOs, and keep them paying their subscriptions. Also, the thing that really would attract me to a multiplayer elder-scrolls, roleplaying with other people, will probably be impossible because its massive. There's practically guaranteed to be tons of 12-yr. olds screaming profanity through their mics, griefers attempting to ruin your day, and just plain old jerks that ruin any sense of immersion. Hopefully, ESO won't attract the scum of the online world and this won't be true.

My friend is getting it, so I'll be relying on his feedback to see whether the game is worth buying and subscribing to.
Like others here, the ongoing costs are a turn-off for me.

Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
Well, I'll buy it for sure. Bethesda has been delighting us with the ES series, they deserve to be paid for their work. And "not" trying it simply does not sound like a viable option.
I do not expect to keep the subscription long. Depends on friends.
After all I bought Morrowind when it came to the shops in Belgium... Which was some time after I finished the game

I wasn't going to buy it, being stubborn and on the principle that I don't think ES should be online ever.
But this has cemented the deal with me.

Now I have a decision to make. I want it on PC and Xbox One. Should I get the Imperial edition on Xbox or PC?

Pre-orders also let you play as any race in any alliance. Just in case someone missed that.

This made me cancel my retail pre-order and get the digital for €5 extra. The retail version only gives 3 days head start.

AARRGGG, shame on them, such evil marketing technique.
This should be banned.
April 4th is a Friday, a perfect day to start such an adventure.
Now I have to pay more to start it on a Sunday evening? A full week of work down the drain.
A shame I tell you, a real scam!!!!
And a mudcrab as pet, who in Oblivion would want that!
Ok, well stay with me a sec, I need to go order just in case it is a real "limited" edition, I'll finish this rant after.

Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
The Imperial Edition and the Explorer Pack pre-order bonuses are certainly attractive enough to make me reconsider buying it for release, despite the relatively hefty subscription. Not gonna lie though, the recent cast reveal did a lot to push the game back into my favour. Still, A$140 is pretty steep.
One of the major differences, aside from the tab targeting and otherwise MMO combat (which ZeniMax Online seems to be taking steps to address) is the question of how much of the game is instanced and how much isn't. Thankfully, ZeniMax also seems to have taken measures to prevent kill-stealing, bodyblocking and other griefing, but only time will tell if having large groups of random strangers will negatively impact anyone's experience. Still, I'm optimistic.

To quote the official documentation:
Just like it says, the preorder allows you to choose any race, regardless of which alliance you choose to create your character for.

I think only the Imperial race can choose to be apart of any of the three factions If I understood it correctly.
