No
Of course not. I know a lot of people that still play Ob and they are the most un-nerdiest people I know. They have all said it is one of the best games ever invented
. The only way I think that you could be considered a "nerd" is if you probly played it all day and never did anything except play Ob mainly because there isnt anything else to do.
Im still here

Yep, im a Geek/Nerd and proud of it!
WoW is by no means a "nerd" category game. It's not even a true RPG (if you have spent any time playing it, you would see that) The people who play WoW for the most part have no interest in Roleplay and really don't have a long history or DnD, Morrowind, Everquest, etc. They want action, and "Phat Lewt" and have zero interest in roleplaying with thier characters.
Now, there are SOME people that play WoW that do have that history and do want to roleplay, there are some RP servers, but they are sparse of activity, and the "Roleplaying" on them is nowhere near what it is in a true RPG.
If only Morrowind or Oblivion were MMOs.
Not meaning to derail this thread, but I come from 30 years or DnD and RP, and started my "Online" RP experience with 9600 buad modems on a BBS. So with that in mind, yep, I am a geek, and have no concerns about talking about it to anyone. Most of my friends are like me as well, so there is no animosity or finger pointing, "Look what a geek/nerd".
In fact, I look at people that aren't into it and wonder.."Why aren't they into it?"
They have lives? Oh lol. Well, I ride 3 different motorycycles on the weekends, go skiing, hiking, camping, and im a network engineer and RPG lover. Yep! Im a Geek!

Yes i do consider myself a nerd because i play this game. If people dont like it and are going to trash talk me because i play it then they can go to hell. But people dont trash talk me about it, you know why? Confidence.
I may be a nerd but im not a loser. If some tool is giving you trouble then tell them to [&@%!] off. If you have confidence then nothing in this world will stop you.
I know this post is a bit vulgar but im trying to help somebody out.

You gotta figure this.... no one really cares. And if they do (in a negative way), they are probably insecure or have problems. I mean, who cares if one student in a high school of 2 thousand plays some video game?
Of course, there is a biological reason for the type of "the world revolves around me/everyone is watching me" thinking. During adolescence, younger teens have a harder time viewing things from other people's perspectives, and as they only see the world from their view, it onsets into egocentricity. Then, yada yada yada. Yada yada.... yada yada yada yada, yada.
I read too many psychology books....

I don't consider myself a nerd, and if I did it wouldn't be because I play Oblivion, or because I roleplay either.
About 75% of the people at my school play video-games, and I don't know any of them who don't play RPGs.
And even if I were a nerd, what would it matter?
Rather be a nerd than someone who ridicules someone for what they are.

If people don't like you because you play an RPG then ignore them, take pity on them, but don't be afraid of them. And there are always bullies who pick on whoever they think is an easy target.
So they may ]try and beat you up, but you said you've been studying martial arts? Well... I assume it's partly for self defense? If you get my meaning...
Disclaimer: I do not condone any kind of physical violence...
But self defense is a completely different matter.
As in "He started it".

Not really in a position to give advice here... but if I were you I'd "come out of the closet"...Vargon wrote:I don't tell anyone in my school that I play Oblivion, apart from my friend who also plays it, because I would be made fun of for it. I consider myself a nerd. And I take pride in it. Because I am a nerd who listens to heavy metal and plays a grueling sport. But I hate the people who came up with the stereotype that every person that has glasses is a nerd. There was someone who said I was a nerd because I have glasses. It doesn't make me a nerd. It says that I have bad eyesight. I think I'm the coolest nerd in my school
Well wrap me around your neck and call me a pedant.
I used to play D&D sometimes, adn still do a little bit, but I didnt care what other people thought, so me and mah friendz would all play D&D and no one from school even cared, and there was also the magical 6th grade, where 90% of the school population played runescape. so people really learned that games like such, with the midievil type setting isnt as nerdy as they are believed to be. No ones going to care if you play a video game where you kick monsters [insert synonym for butt here]es with a massive sword..bow...or fireball.

Kinda that way with me, except I'm kinda of a popular nerd, one seems to go against the other in a way.Deandra wrote:Everyone who knows me knows that I am a nerd, but that has nothing to do with whether or not I play Oblivion.

My crappy rethoric on what makes one a Nerd:
- If you're willing to post on a specific message board devoted to a specific game, you are borderline nerd.
- If you're willing to obsessively argue about something on said message board devoted to said specific game, no matter how many times you try to call yourself a casual gamer, you have already proven to everyone else through your borderline obsessive devotion in said arguments that you are indeed a hardcore gamer.*
* This part was only mentioned due to the massive 'Casual' and 'Hardcore' gamer arguments that were often seen at the various Super Smash Brothers Brawl boards, most of which usually involved the 'legality' and the very existence of Tier lists.
But anyways, yes, I consider myself a nerd, but where I live, almost everyone considers themselves to be some type of nerd.
