^ While I agree, part of me is glad that they had to leave out the bit involving killing Balgruuf. That would've been rough.

I don't know about that. They already develop so long, it will never be perfect, so somethings may not make it in. Not much they, or we, can do about it.

The weapon was considered to be the Rolls-Royce of swords, and also thought to have magical powers. So when warriors died, their Ulfberth swords were buried with them. <3
I saw a documentary about that the other day. PBS Nova - "Secrets of the Viking Sword". Pretty good. I thought it was interesting that Ulfberth War-Bear seems to have been named after the cheap imitation "Ulfber+h" swords rather than the genuine "Ulfberh+" swords. Hmmm... is he pretending to be someone else?Dohvakiin2012 wrote:The makers of these swords had imitators though, there was another brand of sword made just like it with a similar name.
Did you know that you can find bottles of Mead with Juniper Berry, mentioned by Ralof on the cart during the opening sequence, in the burned-out inn in Helgen?

They're in Riverwood, too.

Did you know that poison blooms (an alchemy ingredient added by Dawnguard) are unaffected by the Green Thumb perk, just as nirnroot and crimson nirnroot are unaffected, and can only be harvested once?

Re: Did you know...
that is because the nirnroots are roots. if you pick the roots from a plant it can not grow back:D just more proof that TES really had eye for details.
I don't have the dawnguard dlc so i don't know anything about that.

Re: Did you know...
That's not how it works. The plants grow back like any other in the game. They're talking about how the Green Thumb perk usually lets you harvest more than one ingredient at once from plants, but doesn't apply to nirnroot, crimson nirnroot, or poison blooms.K Candyman wrote:that is because the nirnroots are roots. if you pick the roots from a plant it can not grow back:D just more proof that TES really had eye for details.

There's an eye for detail governing the series, but this ain't one of those details so much as a bug. Green Thumb should apply, but doesn't.

Re: Did you know...
Candyman actually does make a valid point. If you look at nirnroot in your inventory, you have the whole plant (roots and all), which I guess would explain why you can only harvest one ingredient from them, since you're taking the whole plant. But on the same hand, why does nirnroot grow back if you take the roots? And why don't poison blooms grow back? You aren't taking their roots, as far as I can tell.Marelo wrote:That's not how it works. The plants grow back like any other in the game. Re: Did you know...
I was just pointing out that the response Candyman made (that it was intentional attention to detail on the part of the developers) didn't line up with the facts of the game, or the facts of previous games (as CBR JGWRR mentions). The plant grows back in Skyrim, so the taking of the root has little logical connection to the perk not applying.
The perk itself doesn't make much sense to begin with, at least not under the name "Green Thumb." You don't plant or care for any of these ingredients (unless in a Hearthfire home) so you taking the perk shouldn't make any additional viable ingredients appear on wild plants. If the perk were named or described as some kind of more careful harvesting technique which may not apply to varieties of nirnroot or poison bloom, sure, then we could handwave it all away, but it ain't. As it stands, the dang thing is a magic "get more plants from less plants" effect that excludes certain plants, one of which appears totally unrelated to the others, without solid explanation. I'm comfortable calling that a bug.
Edit: In case anyone is curious, the reason it happens is that nirnroot and crimson nirnroot (and I assume poison bloom) are not defined by the game data in the same way as the rest of the plants. I'll have to look more closely in the Creation Kit to make sure, but I believe the exceptions all are scripted or linked to external markers in some way that makes the perk overlook them, or they lack some inherited flag. Because these effects are all for things like glowing/sounds/poison, it's more likely that the Green Thumb thing is an unintentional side-effect of the complicated aesthetics than an intentional bit of lore minutiae.
Edit 2: Yep, the three exceptions are placed in the game as activators with scripts that define their behavior (including a yield of precisely one), whereas the rest of the harvested plants in the game are defined internally as TREE forms, a totally different category. Green Thumb only applies to TREE forms. They could have tinkered with the scripts of the three exceptions to make them properly react to Green Thumb (and I suspect there are mods to that effect) but they probably just overlooked it or didn't think it was worth fixing, despite the relative ease. Similarly, poison bloom doesn't grow back because they overlooked this in the script governing its behavior, which is basically a slightly modified trap script from the base game.
