Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
The random freezes really make me mad. That is, the worse sort does. Sometimes, namely, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and just shut the game and restart. That's not that big a problem, since I've got used to random CTD's and hangups in TES games. But the other sort, which accounts for 75% of freezes, just stops the image on monitor while the music continues to play and no key does anything. Only manual rebooting of the PC works. It [&@%!] me off to have to fear every time if the forced reboot will mess up my Windows/hardware. So far, I've not found a fix to the freeze problem, which makes me even more [&@%!]. Seriously, Bethesda? How hard it can be to make a game stable?
In-game, I sometimes get riled by the relentless barrage of enemies. Some outdoor areas positively crawl with them. Sometimes I've killed a bandit, three wolves, a bear and a troll in the space of five to ten minutes, only to stumble upon a dragon or a spriggan. Hell, in moments like that how anyone stays alive in Skyrim for longer than a minute. Usually, though, the density of enemies is fine, so this isn't a big peeve.
Oh, and speaking about the enemies, the Forsworn make my blood boil every time I encounter them. They are like some blood-thirsty herd animals, since the smallest group I've encountered numbered three. Besides, they hit hard and their gear nets little money for the trouble. Then, they always spring from some bush or gorge at the most inopportune moments, like when I'm out of healing potions or arrows. Oh, and let's not forget they have spells, Briarhearts and Hagravens at their side, which makes them three times more annoying. Damn it, you fur-clad barbarians, why can't you ever let me admire the Reach's scenery in peace? After all, I only kill you because you started it by charging at me like mindless soldier ants!

That could be cool. Maybe the main character could be (or become during the plot) a Blades agent in Hammerfell or maybe Elsweyr? The TES main quests so far have been quite combat-heavy, so I'd like to see one more based on intrigue and stealth. The plot could be about foiling a Thalmor plot of some kind. Or then, maybe it could be set even more back in years, and be about the Void Nights? Restoring the moons is a mystery in the lore, so the main character could have a hand in it, and it certainly would be as epic a premise as in other TES games.I hope that TES 6 will ake place in the time between oblvion and skyrim, just about the great warr and so seems like a fun and interesting story line to me.

that would sure be cool! but as I prefer the heavy combat situations:P I guess letting the PC choose a way or heavy combat as an Blade knight or stealth as a blade agent/spy would be awesome I think.

Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
Yes, adjusting the main plot to suit each of the main playstyles would be great. Like, at some point in the story there'd be a quest that could be solved with stealth, magic or ol' good brute force. Say, an infiltration quest to obtain information á la Diplomatic Immunity. Only this time you could either gather a group of allies and assault the place, sneak in and steal the info, or get it via some hard-to-obtain magical trinket, e.g. some sort of scrying tool.
Then, the story would fork in two or three directions according what choice the player made. E.g. a straight-up assault option would have the result that the main conflict would come into the open, and the rest of the quests would be mostly combat-heavy, like Skyrim's Civil War, only bigger and bloodier. With a more stealthy approach, most of the resulting quests would be more James Bond-style agent stuff. Mages could also have their own path revolving around challenges of a magical nature. Of course, now and then things could be spiced up by throwing the player into a situation where they are out of the water (like a sequence where a mage character would have to make do with severely hampered magical abilities). The forking structure would have the benefit of having more replayability in the main quest, which is a big bonus in my books.
Well, but I fear this is just idle speculation. With this approach Bethesda would be forced to record two to three times as much dialogue, which would be expensive and bloat the file size of the game. Or they would have to cut other sorts of dialogue out, which would mean less side quests. But we can always dream, can't we?

Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
Well, a bit off-topic now and then can't hurt. But on-topic, I just remembered some things that get me mad in Skyrim:
The inability to name the potions one brews. WTH is with that, really? I, for instance, like to make multi-purpose poisons and potions, so it makes me VERY annoyed to have to fish out that heal & boost magicka regen potion among one hundred others that are simply labeled "restore health". The only way around that is to waste a hotkey slot. What makes this even more stupid is that one can name enchanted items, so why didn't they implement the exact same mechanism for Alchemy, too?
Lastly, how over-powered enemy mages are compared to player character mages. After seeing how terrifying a group of noob necromancers was to tackle with (at least when compared to Oblivion), I actually tried a battle-mage kind of character. Boy, was that a mistake! Turned out I never had enough magicka to launch more than one spell even remotely effective, and was so squishy bandits could kill me in the blink of an eye. To add insult to injury, because I had sacrificed improving my stamina for magicka, I couldn't even sprint long enough to get away. Maybe I did something wrong, but I felt a bit cheated after the game became impossibly hard around level 20.

I hate it that the game doesn't pause when you want to name your enchanted item. It makes it possible for any enchanting potions you are using to run out of time just because you were writing the name.

Enemy mages who have a bazillion magicka and double up on thunderbolt and steadfast ward so you can't do spit against them.
Paarthurnax yelling at you to use Dragonrend 500 times during the first fight with Alduin. Doubly annoying since Alduin flies behind the rocks or otherwise out of LOS constantly.

The Blades stink now. They're an affront to the awesomeness of the Oblivion Blades.
Oh, and the typography of Skyrim and especially Solstheim. I once thought Cryodiil was bad. HA.

Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
I have to things that aggravate me to no end. The first is how unstable the game is, even after the unofficial patches. Glitchy quests, CTD because of 3.1GB memory limit, etc.
Then toss in the quests that start whether you want them to or not. Even a short time in game you can end up with a huge quest log making it hard to sort through them. Thank God I found the Timing is Everything mod since it helps with this issue.

Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
Irrelevant side quests with no quest rewards.
Prime example, retrieving a Totem of Hircine from Southfringe Sanctum and encountering a Necromancer named Selveni Nethri that I'm supposed to take pity on, help escape and save out of the kindness of my Dragonborn heart? Hrm, lady, I just saved you from being eaten or sacrificed, you can't cast a spell, but have both a nice Glass Dagger and a Fireball Staff. how about showing a little gratitude? Not to mention you get the quest to save her added to your journal regardless and even if she dies, it remains as I thought about giving her the all clear to make her break for the exit with hostiles still in the area, but ultimately decided against it since I'd still be stuck with an uncompleted quest in my quest journal (as if I don't have enough already). The one time she did die, from, um, "mysterious circumstances"
I thought I could complete the quest after a quick trip to the Ritual Stone, but even after raising her corpse and leading her out, the quest refused to update. Not even a "fail" option upon her death, etc. She has to make it to the exit on her own, apparently.
On a side note though, one benefit to this was that all the looted corpses that I raised, including her and the boss were mysteriously re-equipped upon exiting the cave making it possible to loot them more than once when the Ritual wore off. I even though about reloading a previous save and trying this out on old Kodlak when he died, but ultimately, I decided the loot wasn't worth the annoyance of having a quest journal entry I could never complete, so I just let old Kodlak die in peace, and let the Necromancer walk.

One more to add to the list. Inaccessible skill books.
Third time it's happened. Once at Valtheim Towers, once off the back road to Falkreath and now among the dead refugees near Mount Anthor, a skill book vicariously placed outside on an alter, container, ground, etc. is inaccessible and a quick save and reload results in it phasing or teleporting to some mysterious nether-region never to be seen again. I don't really care so much about the loot as the skill boosts, and in each and every case, there was either a container, dead body or NPC right-freaking-there. Would it really be too much to ask that if you can get the item placements right that you make use of that which is most commonly, easily and readily available to make sure that the items placed in the world are recoverable and retrievable, or does that simply make too much sense?

Have you tried using the Unrelenting Force shout on the book? Often this will push it away from its original location and you may then be able to read it.godsmack wrote:One more to add to the list. Inaccessible skill books.
I used it when I couldnt get Azura's star, due to it being sat on by a skeleton. Worked a treat!
Re: What makes you mad in Skyrim?
Actually, no. It never even occurred to me to try using that even though I've seen that tip several times before. Thanks for the reminder. I'll try to remember that one if it ever happens again.

A recent thing I've experienced has really started to annoy me.
It seems random, but sometimes when I try to conjure thing, the spell will fail. I'll do the casting animation and even get the sound but the blue sphere and the NPC doesn't appear.
I have been killed many-a-time because I tried to summon my Wrathman when I was in a tight spot and he didn't appear.

Do you happen to have the effect of Spell Absorption active on your character? if you do, i think it can have an effect on Conjuration spells, because you try and cast the conjuration spell on yourself but the spell gets absorbed, so you don't get a summon.Justice knight wrote:A recent thing I've experienced has really started to annoy me.

I am mad about how the game responds to leveling. I go up and up, level after level and it gets easier and easier and then go up one more level and add a perk and then I can't kill a damn thing. It sucks. The stronger you get the powerful you get the easier it should get. Really feel like quitting altogether. I hate to die and the game seems to just want to kill you at times. Also mad about some of the patches. They really should not have removed the Oghma infinium cheat. I wanted to try it with the legendary skills. Those cheats are part of the fun. If you don't like them you don't have to use them but it is a nice option.

My advice: just give in and play in Legendary difficulty. Then you will die every time, and can give up all hope.dem wrote:I am mad about how the game responds to leveling. Well, I do cheat in Legendary - mod to have a few followers along to make it possible for my character to survive. Quite a challenge to creep around the country at L4 trying to avoid bears, wolves, anything. Now that's immersive.
Perhaps the thing which annoys me the most is, as others note, the lack of "Whoa, it's her!" when your L75 character trailed by a couple of undead followers comes into town (love that Conjuration perq tree). Heck, she's not even "the hero of Kvatch." After all, one of the reasons people seek an immersive game environment is to grow something, the PC. If this is stunted compared with prior TES games, it is a missed opportunity.
Heck, for all the work and frustrations, we may as well have actual children. Oh wait, I did that. Never mind.
OTOH the game is like watching your favorite film star in court. Immensely charismatic, but with personal issues to match. With all their faults, Bethesda went big and it worked out.
