Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
I would say that they can live for up to six thousand years as a result of the Dwemer but rarely make it due to their lifestyles as i don't think they can reproduce.

That's... quite a lot of unsupported speculation.

Why would they not be able to reproduce?

Not totally unsupported: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Knight-Paladin_Gelebor - he's either lived since roughly the mid to late Merethic era, or there's been a lost group of snow elves in the Forgotten Vale. There is no conclusive evidence either way.Marelo wrote:That's... quite a lot of unsupported speculation.

Not average, nor does it explain his reasoning behind them not being able to reproduce.

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
He's still an example potentially.
And, seeing as TLD did say they couldn't which I missed first time, on the grounds there are male and female falmer (although only the male falmer armour is playable ingame annoyingly...) I'd say they can reproduce.

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
They can reproduce, there is evidence of that
however they cannot reproduce at the same rate as Nords can
Hence to one, if not the main motive behind the Night of Tears, they feared their peaceful relation would shift as they began to be outnumbered.
I wanna believe the average Snow Elf's lifespan is comparable to Altmer and Chimer, though not sure with Dwemer
Still, the Falmer that we know now likely live less but only due to choice lifestyle, however they may very well have a closer average lifespan to what we hope. Not many of them can be witnessed with magic, which may be the opposite of when they were still Snow Elves, whom as we know with most advanced Elvish races were in depth with magic

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
They said "due to the Dwemer" which I'm interpreting as meaning the degenerate Falmer of the present day. To my immediate recollection, the only significance the Dwemer hold to the Falmer is that transformation and the events leading up to it.CBR JGWRR wrote:Not totally unsupported: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Knight-Paladin_Gelebor - he's either lived since roughly the mid to late Merethic era, or there's been a lost group of snow elves in the Forgotten Vale. We have no indication of degenerate Falmer lifespans whatsoever, and Gelebor is not an example of them.

But is it any different than what we have been doing with the orcs? Guessing at most, using comparisons and examples. Just because we have so little intel, doesn't mean we cannot assume. Granted we must know they are assumptions and theories rather than fact

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
TBF, with orcs we do have a reasonable base to theorise from, thanks to the games - with snow elves/falmer we don't have any start point beyond them being elves.

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
Gelebor being thousands of years old is noteworthy, but I don't recall a single reference to degenerated Falmer being infertile. If anything I believe they're probably breeding like rats down there in their subterranean tunnels. One of the big things about uncorrupted Elves is that they have a long life and difficulty producing children. These Elves are very much corrupted, though. More like goblins than proper Elves. Their biology would have been accelerated if nothing else.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Hmm. Ok, he is thousands of years old then.
Still, he's a special case what with his association to Auri-el.

Although, it remains that the line of speech quoted is everything we know about snow elf lifespans.

There is also Tar-Meena's comment in Oblivion that Mankar Camoran is unlikely to still be alive in 3E 433, having been contemporary With Tiber Septim, "but you never know" - so apparently Bosmer living several centuries isn't too common.

Lore wise, he had a Bosmer mother. In game, he's an Altmer. Racial Phenology is not a set in stone rule.

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
You know, I had to wonder why they made Mankar an altmer in Oblivion. I understand that having him be Bosmer might be... well, funny, so they made him an altmer to make him more "intimating" in a sense (or, well, atleast not funny), though I have to wonder why they wouldn't have just maybe... given him a scaled up model of a bosmer male? Or just changing it in The Refugees - as far as I know, it's first appearance was in Oblivion.
It might be a bit odd since bosmer males tend to be shorter than bosmer women, and they're one of the shortest races (the shortest in Oblivion, but not necessarily so in Skyrim, if that holds anything), but... I don't know, maybe on of the parents had Nord blood (or Altmer) and Mankar got lucky with getting some height off of that, similar to Barenziah's first husband? (or well, with how it's assumed he had some nord parentage)
I actually thought with Mankar's kids, one was bosmer and the other was altmer, but I just checked and I guess all three are high elves.

Or maybe Mankar son of Camoran Usurper is a completely different bloke to Mankar of the Oblivion Crisis.

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
Or maybe not. Both Camorans, the Usurper and Mankar had the abilities of Dragonborn. Not coincidental, I think.

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
Source for Usurper being Dragonborn? I know Mankar was, Oblivion made that clear, but I've not heard of Usurper being dragonborn.
