Your Skyrim emotions

Post by Aarah »

Perhaps a girly question?

WHAT EMOTIONS TO YOU GET PLAYING SKYRIM?

Sounds like the answers are obvious but I ask in more of the sense of deep emotions. For example...

sometimes I feel so anxious in a cave or dungeon due to antipation of attack that I literally cant play!

I remember the innocent I accidently killed and feel geniunely guilty when I do.

Cant steal from anyones house. They worked hard for those things.

I just cannot kill anything non hostile - it makes me feel disgusting.

Bodies of dead villagers, still there weeks after - also disgusts me.

Get pangs of moral guilt when stealing - even enemies stuff.

Still feel honestly quite sad about losing my (now obviously dead) horse. Actually ran up to a similar one with that painful hope that comes before a misidentification.

Geniune terror if a frostbite spider gets up close.

So, anyone else as pathetically emotional as me? Or do you just run around killing children and stealing gold with a smile on your face and a song in your heart?

p.s. oh dear, reading this back to myself makes me think im a bit too sensitive to play this game. Lol!

My characters almost all go through a period of soul-searching while traveling the vastness of Skyrim. The music just makes it happen most of the time. With some of my darker characters they usually think about what they've done with their lives and if they've spent their time living their life to the fullest. With the more righteous characters they think about what they want to do as their lives go on, but it of course vastly changes from character to character.

TES has always made me feel a wide variety of emotions, too many to list them all.

Emotions I feel while playing Skyrim?
Summed up by a simple: meh. I've taken on the personality of my main character and become apathetic. I usually don't feel much now, except for the occasional mild amusement derived from the planned murders of innocent civilians. It suits the character.

I'm sure it was different when I first started, but that was so long ago that I can't remember.

Frustration of game ridiculousness. And amusement when a person is launched into the atmosphere by a mammoth or a giant or if I see a levitating mammoth.

As a IRL friend once said, something about an overthinking pieces or something, I get a vast range of emotions while playing. From the breathtaking scenery to the touching music, everything feels like it carries weight. Even the simplest of tasks can feel truly important, and failing or succeeding brings me all sorts of emotion. You should have seen me in Cheydinhal.

Rage over loading screen freezes that give no indication over being frozen. Otherwise, IDC. Games don't make me feel.

Annoyance when the game crashes during the loading screen. Rage when it's crashed and i forgot to save thus losing a few hours progress. That said, i force myself to save once every 15 minutes. And that's it. Relaxed when i'm just travelling accross Skyrim on foot as it's surprisingly very relaxing to do. Impressed, when i see a beautiful sight.

I also tend to get guilty of some things. For instance, once I saw a gray, four-legged animal walking onto the road from the bushes. Thinking it was a wolf, I shot it through the throat in one quick, perfectly aimed shot. A second after that, a woman who by her gear looked like a hunter, sprang from the bushes, too, and started to shoot at me. I returned fire, of course, and killed her. When I went to loot the bodies, I realized I actually had shot the hunter's dog first. No wonder she got [&@%!] at me! I couldn't bear the guilt of accidentally murdering innocents, but reloaded a save even though it meant losing half an hour of play.

Also, I always feel horrible about killing Grelod. Yes, she is a horrid b---h, but in my books she doesn't quite deserve to die for that. I mean, she's about to kick the bucket in a few years anyway, and who knows how hard a life she must have had to become such a bitter, hateful old woman? Actually, the whole Dark Brotherhood questline made me feel dirty. I almost quit the questline after I had forced myself to kill Narfi. The poor dude never did any harm to anyone, so it felt awful.

On the positive side, dragon fights cause this glorious feeling of epicness for me. They can be quite repetitive at times, but I can't help feeling like real hero for killing such a huge beast. Also, stalking and hunting deer and mammoths is very thrilling and satisfying.

Also, the natural scenes often make me feel awe and joy in their beauty. The pine forests in Skyrim resemble those in my home country, only with their loveliness supercharged with blazing auroras, pictoresque waterfalls and majestic mountains.

Yes I tend to reload after things like that too. Most recently a travelling skooma seller who got caught in the crossfire with a spider.

Yes I have never entertained the DB questline until recently as I feel great aversion toward that sort of play. Just hearing that Aventis boy at the start, wearily chanting the Brotherhood summons, made me feel very uncomfortable. Im only just at the bit where you have to go the the hidden shack, so im not sure whether my morals will put me off it yet.

I don't know about that; when I completed the quest involving his sister one of the rewards he gave me was human flesh... I am curious as to who wanted him dead, though.

Maybe someone in Rorikstead ordered the hit. He does own a farmhouse, after all. Someone could be after the lot the house is built on. Now who in Rorikstead would be in need of a lot to build a house on, and have the necessary materials to build? Well, Temba. She owns the sawmill, so has easy access to lumber. Also, she apparently doesn't have a house of her own since she has to sleep in the inn. Hmm... Makes one wonder...
