Re: The 'What happened to you today' thread
Today I dropped my smart phone into the toilet. That's new.
It's a model that you can't unscrew...so...I dried it out as much as I could with the vaccuum and a towel, and now it's sitting in rice. But I think it's dead.

I'm kind of curious as to how you dropped the smart phone in the toilet in the first place.

Re: The 'What happened to you today' thread
Since you can't remove the battery, I can almost guarantee that it's dead, unfortunately.
Electronic equipment that doesn't have a current running through it is actually quite water-resistant. I wouldn't recommend it, but most PC components can be completely submerged without the risk of any damage at all, as long as there's no power running through them when it happens (Might have to manually discharge the capacitors. Not sure - never tried it, never will.), and long as they're completely dry before they're powered up again (Might have to worry about oxidisation too. Again, not sure.). I've literally heard of people washing their motherboard (yes, with water!) to get the dust off lol. Totally stupid of course, since dust isn't much of a problem and water is potentially an enormous problem, but people do it, and their PC works fine afterwards.

Yeah, it's definitely dead. I'll just have to get a new one a bit earlier than expected, I guess.

Depends of what water you use. You should use demineralized water and not just water from the sink.Moeboid wrote:Since you can't remove the battery, I can almost guarantee that it's dead, unfortunately.

I've heard of people doing it with tap water :p. Very pure water would, of course, be much safer, as it doesn't conduct electricity (Well? At all?).

Distilled water would be best for cleaning anything, really. It's also what they give out with the sticky screen protectors for phones. The water dries cleanly.
Anyway, what I'm doing today is pretty much nothing. I've done my work for the day, so when the clock strikes 4 I'm heading to Walmart or Best Buy to pick up a copy of Dredd on Blu-Ray/DVD in support of having a sequel made.

Pure water would conduct tiny amounts of electricity, because H2O naturally dissociates into Hydrogen and oxide ions, but these ions are present in far lower concentrations (around 0.0000001 mol dm^-3) than in tap water, which sometimes has calcium ions and the suchlike.Moeboid wrote:I've heard of people doing it with tap water :p. Re: The 'What happened to you today' thread
Most of my day was spent writing. I typed one story this morning, and then wrote another in the afternoon. Finally got that finished about half an hour ago.
I'll probably type that one tomorrow.
Anyway, I decided to cook up an "Oriental Party Pack" from a little food shop for dinner since my mom was at another dog training session. Apparently most of it has disappeared now. I stuck a note on the plate claiming the rest of it for myself tomorrow. Whether or not that'll have any effect, I don't know. My father has this annoying habit of eating the leftovers that I mark as mine.
Our house was also listed on the website this morning. We've actually already got somebody coming over to look at it. So tomorrow at 6pm we've got to leave the house for half an hour or so so the people can look at it. My mom is practically freaking out about the items we have. She thinks every little thing is dirty or too cluttered. Honestly, mom. They're coming to look at the house, not our possessions. If they're looking at our possessions more than the house, then I think we'll have a problem.
Hmph. Well, I'm off to bed now. Was up late last night writing and I was awakened early by the clanking of dishes. Too tired to stay up now.

Re: The 'What happened to you today' thread
Apparently, when I dropped my phone in water yesterday, I forgot I was a genius and gave myself insurance...so they overnighted me a new one! I just got it this evening and it's amazing. I didn't really want to pay $600 to replace my phone, haha, but I got the same model and everything - in even better condition, since my old one had some ding marks on it. So, success! Except for me forgetting to back up my contacts, anyway...
Other than that, today I worked on a character I've been creating for a roleplay forum (I'm adopting him from another person, so it's stressful to make him just right) and got a form to fill out for one of the many jobs I've been applying to. I'm not getting my hopes up, particularly since I've been getting to second and third interviews without hires, but it's nice to have the opportunity, for sure!

Re: The 'What happened to you today' thread
Good luck on the job hunting, Avron! And I'm glad you got a new phone.
Today was pretty chill. Went to work and our boss bought us all Pita Pit. Which is funny because I'm a server at a restaurant and we had a customer sitting at the bar comment on our lunch. Whatever. Mind your business lady. And after work, I went for a long walk with my husband down at the marsh by our house. There's termination dust two peaks away...which means the snowfall will be here within the next few weeks. The fall colors look beautiful and the valley is littered with red, yellow, and now white in the background. I'm ready for winter. My snowshoes are out of the closet and ready to go...although I probably won't be snowshoeing until November when there is solid snow on the ground.
I have Ayurveda class in two hours and we'll be discussing cancer. It should be pretty interesting. This weekend our class is manning a booth at a Holistic Fair to put word out that our program is recruiting patients. Then we have the Women's Show next weekend. I'm excited about all of it because its a good opportunity for us to connect with the community.

Re: The 'What happened to you today' thread
Had a pretty good day.
- Gave my first biweekly presentation in my capstone class, and a teacher I've had for all of college said that he knows I struggle with group speaking and he thought that this was the best I've done.
- After class, had lunch and went for ice cream with my project partner. (Tried huckleberry flavor. It was all right, reminded me of blueberry.)
- Went to the video game enthusiast's club again. It's kinda interesting because I keep my 3DS in my backpack - it acts as a pedometer, and if you walk past someone else with one, you can play minigames with their Mii - and I've gotten so used to seeing the same Miis for months, I finally got to meet the people and see who it is.
But the funniest moment came when I was playing Guild Wars 2. I had just loaded it, but it was lagging very badly, in a way I've never seen it do before. A couple people were watching. My character started getting hit by something, and I realized that all the enemies were invisible. Finally they appeared so I tried to attack one... and my character didn't seem to be holding weapons, but tried attacking anyway. So we had a good chuckle as my character shot arrows from an invisible bow. Then suddenly all her clothes vanished, so my character's sitting there fighting completely naked. That set us all howling with laughter. It only lasted a couple seconds, but oh gosh, it was hilarious.

Re: The 'What happened to you today' thread
Today was okay I guess. Woke up and went to rehearsal, did some more swordplay which was interesting. After that I went to school, etc. I donated plasma again, and as a result got to watch Star Trek Into Darkness, which was cool. Then I go to my car and discover... that I left my keys in the ignition and the doors locked... so after sucking it up and calling my dad for assistance, I used my spare key to unlock the car, gave my dad 5 bucks that he then used to buy himself and my brother Weinerschnitzel, and off I went to Del taco to eat. I have learned many lessons today, though none of them from my classes.

Well this combination of allergies/an emerging head cold escalated quickly. My body aches, I feel like I'm constantly living in a dream-like state, and my nose is so stuffed up that I can't taste anything. And I caught my brother's sore throat.

Re: The 'What happened to you today' thread
I got the first wave of my genome typing results back today! Apparently, I have the genes associated with many world-class sprinters and high endurance athletes. I absolutely laughed about that.
Really neat report, though. I have to wait a few more weeks for additional information, but seeing things as associated with my genetic makeup is really interesting! It's a wonder, to think that one day we may all have this done and know so much about ourselves...
Edit: And people gonna get time outs, with this pony avatar.
