Gandosa Arobar

Post by MoncarBelvani »

In the Thieves Guild's "Naughty Gandosa" quest, Aengoth the Jeweller says that Gandosa Arobar is "Miner Arobar's daughter, if you know what I mean". Does this mean that she is his lover or his secret wife or something a bit more gross?

She is in fact his daughter, or at least that's what I'm led to believe. There isn't actually a lot of documentation on the matter, and honestly I'd never considered it, but there may very well be something more to it, or at least there may have been the intention that we as players read something more into it. Interesting find.

Ah I see, I was interested in finding out more about Dunmer attitudes towards such things. I know that Divayth Fyr's lovelife is pretty weird (to say the least!) and I was wondering whether Dunmer ideas of love differed from those held in the West.

Divayth Fyr has an excuse for his 'situation'. He is a sorcerer whos lost him marbles. Nuff said. I love that guy.

Yeah I do think the parallel with Divayth Fyr is appropriate, but one important thing to note with his case is that his 'daughters' are not, strictly speaking, biologically his daughters, so much as test-tube babies. Still, there could be something in it all.

A bit less exciting, but Aengoth's statement could also be interpreted in a "like father like...daughter" sense. Maybe ol' Miner is quite the deviant...

On the other hand, the book was supposedly full of quite obscene text (or images).

It's a shame that there isn't more information available on Dunmer views of love and sexuality. I think it's the Berenziah books that mention Dunmer women being known for their promiscuity, though that may very likely be a stereotype. I've always assumed that the Dunmer would be quite open to quite unorthodox practices, though, seeing as Vivec is who he is. I'd also posit that there is definitely room in Dunmer spirituality for ritualized sexual practices, though I don't have any concrete evidence. It just fits. I might have to do some digging...

The Dunmer, particularly young Dunmer women, are indeed known to be promiscuous. Still, there isn't any precedent I'm aware of for Dunmer incest, particularly in as moderate a House as House Redoran, and so moderate a Councilman as Miner Arobar.

Aengoth's remarks may have been in reference to Gandosa's legitimacy, as her mother doesn't enter the picture in the game. That's heavy speculation though, and the fact that she has a sister (although their being half-sisters is not impossible), does seem to suggest otherwise.
