Exactly how I feel. I liked way more DC because it was like a maze full of places to explore. I hope that the rumours about the next one being in boston turns out true. Boston is a big city isn't it?philfredobob wrote:I have no problem with it being two areas, I don't care about that. it's just that the location is not interesting, I don't like hanging about it or exploring it.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
DC had a lot of places but half of them did feel generic, if i remeber correctly or were just slightly altered maps. I suspect Bethesda will have F4 take place in the commonwealth and i really hope they do not reuse parts of Fallout 1 or 2's plot as 3 did that. And that was average at best. With a lot of plotholes.
If it is set in Boston, i hope that there will not be supermutants but a replacement for them as Fallout 3 barely managed to get away with the FEV reason. Would like to see the BOS to not appear again or in a small role and to be the [&@%!] version of the BOS. Aka, the western version as they are not supposed to be knights in shining power armour.

Already we disagree. I enjoyed DC all the way through. each and every place was fun to explore for me, whether in the wasteland or the DC ruins.Thelastdovah wrote:DC had a lot of places but half of them did feel generic,
I'd prefer to see the eastern sect again. or maybe the Outcasts. the western version aren't knights in shining armour, the Lyon's ones are trying to be. i quite like the split.Thelastdovah wrote:Would like to see the BOS to not appear again or in a small role and to be the [&@%!] version of the BOS. I hope we won't get Lyon's one as they belong in Fallout 3 and were not that interesting to be honest. Plus, they got lucky. If it weren't for the plot device, a epic one at that, they would have lost against the enclave. Fallout 4 gives Bethesda a chance to introduce new factions into Fallout lore and work on the east coast. The BOS belong on the west coast and i seriously doubt that after the NCR war, they could afford to send some men to boston to set up an outpost there due to the NCR pretty much crippling them at a cost.

Id like to see a new enemy other than super mutants and the enclave, and one not as lame as Ceasar's Legion.

Caeser's legion was excellent. It showed that an army that used mainly melee attacks can become a major threat thanks to it's leadership and showed that one man can build an empire. Caeser did that and actually made it safer for merchants. Mainly due to raiders bein scared [&@%!] of them and not willing to even risk being caught by them.

I don't think that was shown. Might have worked against the Bronze Age hunter-gatherers that the Legion subsumed in its rise, but when Caesar confronted a trained military force using firearms at the First Battle of Hoover Dam the result was a rout.Thelastdovah wrote:Caeser's legion was excellent. Angry men sporting football pads, skirts and chainsaws aren't a credible military threat, they're extras from a cheesy 1980s horror flick.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I disagree. I want to see Lyon's Brotherhood of Steel again. I'm not saying put them in a huge part, just an appearance and a mention is all. I enjoyed hearing about the history between the young branch and it's original. the long trek east, The technological discoveries, the split and formation (or is it re-formation?) of the Outcasts, it was all good in my eyes.Thelastdovah wrote:I hope we won't get Lyon's one as they belong in Fallout 3 and were not that interesting to be honest. Neither of the two BoS factions are the ''right'' ones. the Brotherhood was formed to help with the rebuilding of humanity. it's just that they disagree on which is the proper way to do that. The Western Brotherhood is falling to pieces, if it ''belongs in the west'' then it's destined to die unless they start taking action.
The Legion was ok. I wouldn't go so far as to say they were ''excellent''. but they were enjoyable at least. but just the idea that ''whether you help or hinder them , they are going to fall to pieces anyways'' put me off a little bit.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I liked the Legion. Well, I hated the Legion but they were well done. And if anything the Lyons BOS are the outcasts. The outcasts in Fallout 3 are the one following the original plan.
Hopefully Fallout 4 doesn't just copy Fallout 1 & 2 hoping all the while that nobody notices.
And yeah, the Brotherhood are morally grey and destined to die out if they don't change their way. But the tragedy of the Brotherhood is that they can't change their way. At least allying the Vegas branch with the NCR makes things a bit brighter.Veronica: We'll die out.
MacNamara: I know.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
Hopefully Fallout 4 does not do that and we get original factions that either replace those from previous games but in a subtle manner or serve a different purpose.
Will not be happy if we have a Mothership Zeta 2 in Fallout 4 as the first one had no reason to exist. It also implied that aliens caused the nuclear war and most people just pretend that Zeta never happened.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I enjoyed Mothership Zeta.
I like most of the things Fallout 3 did. i would quite like it if Fallout 4 was similar to 3.
But mine is but a single voice drowned out by the many thousands of New Vegas fans, so i have doubts it will turn out anything like how i would like it to. I used to be looking forward to the next Fallout, but after seeing what people have asked for, I don't look at it very well anymore.

If only the New Vegas fans were in the majority... I'm fully expecting Fallout 4 to be a fairly dumb game content to wallow in mediocrity and re-hash whatever it can from previous titles even when it shouldn't and I don't mind too much. I'll still enjoy it and more Fallout is always good even when it's not achieving its full potential.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
Whilst Zeta is awful, it is enjoyable but it still should not have been made as aliens should only be easter eggs. Not entire add ons based on an easter egg that imply that aliens caused the war. I'm hoping Bethesda will put a lot of effort into Fallout 4 and make sure that the factions are not half arsed, like certain ones in Skyrim. I hope they will not implement regenerating health as it doesn't belong in fallout. Or tes for that matter.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
Mothership Zeta was absolutely awful. It and Operation Anchorage were nothing more than dressed up excuses to grab some overpowered items with no kind of substance or any attempt to engage the audience on any level other than gameplay, which is a mistake in a series that plays as badly as Fallout. I could have forgiven it all and given them both a Point Lookout/10 if they at least offered any sense of freedom or discovery but nope, they're either completely linear or faux-free roam hub-based exploration. Damn those two expansions were awful.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I agree. Zeta pretty much broke the game if you have invested in energy weapons. As for Anchorage, apparently, they accidentally left the simulation version of TLB-51 power armour which has a lot of health and take forever for the player to notice that it has recieved a bit of damage. Plus, both lacked character development with the characters that featured.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I couldn't give a damn about character development considering it's Fallout 3 but even by the game's standards I really had no interest in my buddies. The thing I hate the most about Zeta is that Bethesda actually managed to hit the narrative and gameplay sweet spots with The Pitt and Point Lookout respectively. They should have made their final DLC the game's swan song, their best effort at consolidating everything they'd done right or at least something fresh and original. The final product is just a [&@%!] waste of time that relies on gimmicks like a space walk to distract you from the fact that you're just playing Operation Anchorage with aliens. Why even bother making it a de facto item pack when it's the last thing a lot of players will ever do in the game? I have no idea what they were thinking.

This probably won't come as a surprise to anyone, but i also enjoyed Operation: Anchorage.
The only Add-On of Fallout 3s i would say wasn't very good was Broken Steel. it left the game with a worse ending than before, and i didn't mind the original ending. Still liked the new enemies and stuff though...

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
In a universe where there's laser weapons, almost everything is nuclear powered, people drink irradiated drinks (nuka-cola quantum and the likes), and 200 years old food, I don't think aliens are too out of place, just something a little more absurd in the mix. No damage done to me. But yeah, it's the worst expansion of 3 for sure.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
Aliens only have one place in Fallout and that's to serve as an easter eggs. Zeta implies that they started the nuclear war without any reason for it. As for the 200 year old food, Fallout 3 cocked up with the amount of food and wasteland. It felt like the war was just 10-20 years ago instead of 200 years agos. Food should have been hard to find instead of being easy to find.

You actually read the subject of the post? Go you.
Because Saints Row isn't Fallout? Hopefully Obsidian gets to work on a Fallout game again in the future. And Tim Cain even works there now.
Mothership Zeta is bad. But like Operation Anchorage the rewards are good. Could aliens in Fallout be done well? Maybe. Was it? No. The worst thing it did was imply aliens started the war. That would invalidate the theme of the entire series. Also don't cite special encounters from Fallout and Fallout 2. They aren't exactly canon. If that was the case I would have preferred to see the Doctor Who crossover. So I'm kind of hoping the whole thing is written off as non-canon.
Anyway, moving on. Here is some possible Fallout news. Possible that is, could be nothing. So don't take it as confirmation, yet. It is about this website. thesurvivor2299.com
In other news Series 2 of Nuka Break was released a while back. The original film, the first series, Red Star and this are all well made. So check them out if you haven't. It even features Tim Cain and Chris Avellone.

There is now also a timer on the website. It has 26 days left on it at time of writing. Bridgeport is a city in Connecticut. As those who know their Fallout Lore may be aware the United States is made up of 13 Commonwealths. Connecticut is in the New England Commonwealth which was mentioned in Fallout 3 and some people have claimed in the past that Falllout 4 may be set in Boston, Massachusetts which is also in the New England Commonwealth.A debate is raging over whether a newly-registered domain is a tease for the next Fallout game.
Head over to thesurvivor2299 and you'll be greeted by a blank, black screen and an odd, grating beeping. "What could it be?" you ask yourself. The sharp minds at Reddit - some of them, anyway - think they have an answer.
The whois result for thesurvivor2299.com states that the registrant is none other than ZeniMax Media Inc. of Rockville, MD, parent company of Fallout studio Bethesda Softworks. And the beeping, the Redditors say, is actually morse code for "11.12.13," which would seem to correspond to a date....
...On the other hand, the domain name is registered with GoDaddy, while all other Bethesda domains are registered through Corporate Domains. That could very well indicate that the whole thing is a prank - but it might not, too. The site source code offers no hints one way or another, although the morse code sound file is named "bridgeport," which may carry some significance.
The bottom line is this: It might be real, it might not - but until we know for sure, we've got something to look forward to in December. Speculation is fun!

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
Because Aliens are supposed to be a recurring easter egg in the series. Zeta was just crap. Worse, it implied the great war was caused by aliens. Saints Row is well, Saints Row. They can get away with anything due to the nature of the franchise. Fallout is an RPG with a huge fanbase and introducing Aliens is one of the best ways to [&@%!] it off. Hell, most Fallout fans refuse to adknowledge Mothership Zeta.
