Trapped!

Lucy followed John and was curious about what was blocking off the town.

"So, Lucy tell me a bit about yourself." John asked her.

"There's not much to say really. I own a modest shop here and run it by myself." Lucy said to John. She wasn't lying about her background. She was just simply not revealing all of the facts.

12:00PM

It has been a stressful day in the town of Akron. The Mayor just announced that there is something keeping us from the rest of Alabama. Kelsie was in Pam's Diner, she almost finished with her salad, thinking about the announcement, and the fact of them being trapped.

Lucy
John nodded, "Nothing to really say about me either, I just live in an apartment not far from here. So why do you think that we are trapped?" He asked Lucy.

"Don't know but i can this town turning violent if we start to run out of food." Lucy said to John.

"Yeah it definitely would" John said to Lucy. John and Lucy soon arrived at the border of Akron.

Kelsie poked at the apple in her Waldorf salad, slowly finishing it as she stared down at the blue linoleum-topped table she sat at. She looked up at the other patrons scattered around the diner as she sipped at her coffee with two sugars and three creams and shook her head a little. From her own studies, it was clear that there would be a food shortage sooner rather than later and the town would erupt in a kind of lawlessness that would bring national attention, but what then? Would the mayor try to hide it? Would it get political?
She briefly thought of her dog, the lazy Bailey who walked five feet out the door then demanded to be carried back inside and felt her throat swell and chest tighten. What if people started eating their pets? She dabbed away the tears starting to form with a crumpled napkin and took another drink from her cup, wrapping her hands around the still warm mug and hoping that she hadn't drawn much attention to herself.

Lucy looked at the thing which was blocking the town off from the world.

Kelsie
"One woman who was sitting at the table next to her noticed her crying a little. "Oh honey, are you alright?" The elderly lady asked.

Lucy
It was transparent Lucy could see everything that was on the other side.

"That's odd. There is nothing here." Lucy said to John as looked at the other side.

She looked up at the sudden voice addressing her and nodded, swallowing thickly then pushing the long hair that had fallen in her face back behind an ear. "Y-Yeah I'll be fine. I'm just...letting panic get to me, you know? This whole situation a lot to take in all at once."

"Should we try touching it?" John asked Lucy.

Kelsie
"Yeah it is kind of a shock, you should go take a look sometime. Unfortunately I'm to old to go look for myself.

"Might as well." Lucy said as she put a hand out in an attempt to touch the border of the town.

John touched the border of the town as well, they both felt a little stun on their hands.

"What the [&@%!]?" Lucy uttered as she recovered from the small stun in surprise.

"Ow that really hurt." John said, "Well it is definitely there, unfortunately." John said a bit depressed. "Do you think it will do it again?" He asked.

After taking another sip of her cooling coffee, Kelsie sat up a little straighter. "We could go together? I mean, I've got a car so it wouldn't be such a big deal, I guess." She smiled at the old lady and extended her hand. "My name's Kelsie. I've lived here in town my whole life but I teach history over in Greensboro."

"Probably but i suppose we should find out." Lucy said to John in a bit of a relucant tone as she pressed both hands against the invisible barrier.

Kelsie
"Oh that's nice, I'm Kim" she extended her hand and shook Kelsie's, "Oh, yes maybe we could go there, shall we go now or a bit later?" she asked Kelsie.

Lucy
John also touched both hands on the invisible barrier also. This time there was no stun or shock.

Kelsie shrugged and sipped at her coffee again. "Maybe after some pie. It's on me. So why don't you tell me about yourself. Are you retired? Do you still work?" She raised her hand and got her coffee refreshed, and ordered a slice of chocolate cream pie. She was much calmer now, and a piece of pie would help clear her mind and get her thinking rationally again.

"I am retired now and I have been for quite some time. I used to work down at the market, across from a little shop." Kim said to Kelsie.
A waiter came over to Kelsie "Here is your chocolate cream pie, is there anything else you would like?" He asked.

"That's very odd." Lucy said in a bit of a confused tone and pushed against it with all of her wieght,

Nothing happened no shock or stun. "What were you trying to do?" John asked Lucy in a mysterious tone.

"I'm trying to see if i can get past it." Lucy said to John.

"I really don't think that it is going to work" John said to Lucy.
