Any weird habits in Skyrim?
I probably have a boatload of odd things that I do when I play, but this one is always one of them. Whenever I finish picking a lock, I always do this thing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8PtbCyf ... e=youtu.be
I figured it would be easier to post a video than to try and describe it. I know it isn't unique to me (most likely). Any weird habits for you guys?

Fiddling with the pick? Yeah. I do that, though I usually just move it around a bit instead of waving it all over the place. It passes time until the game goes back to normal.
Not sure what else I do that might qualify as a "weird habit," though. I tend not to notice any strange things I do while playing.

Re: Any weird habits in Skyrim?
When I'm travelling outdoors, I never run with a sword or a dagger drawn. A bow or even an axe is fine, but running with a blade just feels wrong. Maybe it's because I was taught in the boy scouts how dangerous it is to run with a knife in hand. Also, while climbing or descending mountain slopes I sheathe my weapon. Just feels like my character would need his both hands free in that situation.
Other "strange" habits include simulating nodding and shaking the character's head with mouse movement at appropriate places and "bowing" to Jarls and other luminaries when meeting them the first time.

You know, now you mention it, it's kinda marvellous how often my characters get ragdolled by landing dragons (thanx to DCO) with swords in their hands and somehow miraculously manage to land without accidentally gutting themselves.Nord85 wrote:When I'm travelling outdoors, I never run with a sword or a dagger drawn. OT, I've different habits on different characters, which reflect their personality. My Breton witch Sylvaine, for example, loves herbal tea (added by Realistic Needs IIRC), so whenever she's in a tavern she'll buy up the barkeep's stock of herbal tea to quaff at her leisure. Also, when I have Cicero as a follower on my assassin/vampire character I make sure he always has sweetrolls and carrots in his inventory, and Sylvaine buys her husband and follower Cosnach a mug of mead whenever possible.

Don't know if this is actually a "habit" but I have developed some sort of crazy fondness towards foxes. Whenever a wolf or something is trying to kill a fox, I shall run into its' aid. Once my mage even refused to kill a fox which was possessed by a Spriggan and just paralyzed the thing and ran away =P

Re: Any weird habits in Skyrim?
One of my characters collects every book he comes across, regardless of whether he already has a copy.
Most of my characters do not attack bears, but shout Kyne's Peace to make friends with the bear. (Only my "evil" character fights bears, and he isn't the Dragonborn.)
All of my characters compulsively collect alchemy ingredients, whether they need them or not. For this reason, they walk or run everywhere rather than using horses.
Can't think of anything else that's a quirk of this player rather than of the character.

Re: Any weird habits in Skyrim?
Your characters would be horrified by the behaviour of mine, then. Bears were the nemesis of sorts for my first character, always attacking at the worst of times and places (like, on a narrow mountain path when my lvl 5 char hadn't any potions). Also, it seemed like every single time my char hadn't cure disease potions, those furry b****ds would give him some disease. That poor character got mauled more times I care to remember.baratron wrote: Most of my characters do not attack bears, but shout Kyne's Peace to make friends with the bear. Consequently, none of my characters suffers a bear to live if they can help it. I've used Kyne's Peace on bears a few times, but only to be able to score a lethal backstab on them. Unrelenting Force is my favourite against them. A single shout near a cliff, and voilá, no more bear problem. Actually, I have a habit of maneuvering, whenever possible, so that I can Fus Ro Dah them down from a cliff, or finding someplace from where I can pepper them with arrows without any fear of retaliation. Sounds cruel, but I really got fed up with them.

My characters spend equal time on the road and at home. I'll have them rest, feed the kids, change their outfits, and do other chores.

I've noticed that my main character has a bit of a sweet tooth. I don't normally bother with food, cooking, etc. but I notice that every time I come across a sweet, I'll grab it. It doesn't get sold off and stays in his inventory until he eats it.
I don't find myself doing this with my bad guy, though.

Ditto! Foxes are holy, except if I'm evil and even then most of the time (unless I need their fur for a cloak, which happens). IIRC there once was a whole thread dedicated to players' relationships with foxes, so we're hardly alone.CreeperX wrote: Don't know if this is actually a "habit" but I have developed some sort of crazy fondness towards foxes. Would you judge me if I said that I have one Skyrim character and one Oblivion character who both always carry around a copy of The Lusty Argonian Maid?

No archery in the rain.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

It depends on the character for me. I had one who meditated after every battle in which an ally was killed. And my current character collects human skulls (the ones that can be picked up, that is).

I always look at my character in 3rd person, too. They're all just too cute.
I also give followers food and gold, and heal them after battles. Follower husbands get the special items and treats found. My characters also take Meeko on hunts.

I also just remembered one weird habit I have. All my characters collect journals. Half of the time they don't even read them (since I at least somewhat remember the content from previous playthroughs) but for some reason just keep collecting every journal which comes across their way. They also have some great problems in letting them go and hardly ever sell them or anything. I dunno why this is.

Re: Any weird habits in Skyrim?
In regards to looking at our characters in third person, I do that as well... Except it's not so much looking at them as it is heavily scrutinizing every little aspect of their appearance. I can get extremely annoyed when something is off, and absurdly pleased when everything is perfect. That's not unique to Skyrim, though. I do it in both Morrowind and Oblivion.
I collect books (any book, even if I have multiple copies of them). It comes out of the desire to fill every single bookshelf I have in every home, modded or vanilla.
Some of my characters will take the time to put some Nightshade near or on the body of their Dark Brotherhood victim. Of course, in my mind, they also use some of the victims blood to leave a hand print (the Black Hand) beside the body. Others (like Vulom) might scratch a message onto the corpse. Shame that can't actually be done in-game. So it happens in my head while I'm playing the game... Meh. Close enough.

Re: Any weird habits in Skyrim?
I'm not sure this counts as a habit, but I try and collect every item. as in, all miscellaneous items, weapons, armour, and books. I then store them in different parts of my house.
sometimes, after I complete everything I plan on completing in my game, I take the time to decorate a certain home with some kind of marker or souvenir or item, you know what I mean, and each of these items represent a certain quest I have completed.

Oh, another trophy-collector! I do that too. If a quest has been especially fun or difficult, I preserve a souvenir and store it in my house. Sometimes it's the final boss's armour or weapon, sometimes another item that had significance for the quest. If there's a book involved in a quest (e.g. The Legend of the Red Eagle or a journal), I always keep them and put them in my bookshelf.
