Morrowind stops working every time I exit.

Hello everyone. I have the Morrowind GOTY edition installed. The game works fine and everything works perfectly and I have no problems playing the game. However there is one big problem that Is pretty annoying. Every time I exit the game it crashes somehow. I exit and then this big black box will cover most of my desktop screen ( I guess it was the screen I was playing the game in) and the error message that Morrowind has stopped working will pop up. It causes my computer to freeze for a bit but after a bit I manage to get to the error box and close everything. Can anyone help me with this problem please? This problem only happens when I try and exit the game but sometimes it also happens after I've been playing the game for hours and it will just crash and the same thing will happen. Any help would really be appreciated.

I get that a lot with Oblivion. I just close the window and ignore the error. *shrug*
