At the same time, setting up in a bug infested house is asking for trouble assuming one measly bug could ruin a batch. One could easily slip through when venturing in and out of the plastic cover for whatever reason.

Walter is a narcissist, so I doubt we're really supposed to be rooting for him. That said, I'm still rooting for him, like I do for every bad guy with a master plan ever. I've always wanted to see those intricate plans work, just to see what happened.

i pull for Walt, and Jessie is getting on my nerves... My wife hates mr white ever since mike, mike was her fav character... Walt is getting a bit difficult to cheer for, offin mike, threating hank, and god knows how he's gonna handle Jessie.. Either way I hope it ends well for my viewing pleasure cuz I'm tired of lame endings, lost, sapranios, heros, and the Tudors all ended poorly for me..

Okay, a narcissist is not what Walter is. I really hate labels in these kinds of stories in these, because it simplifies these intricate characters way too much. He's not a narcissist, he's just put into situations that truly question your morals, such as the question of, "Is killing for your children okay?". He's learning every day and he wants the best for his family, but he's always put into these horrible situations. He's not a narcissist, in my opinion.

He's the main character, we're not necessarily supposed to be rooting for him, but hoping that he makes the right decisions.

A narcissist is someone who makes everything about themselves. Watch the series again and pay attention to what drives Walt to make his decisions. Every single time it's all about him. Even when he says it's for his family, it's not. It's about him. His character is intricate in the hoops he jumps through to make himself the "hero" not only in his own mind but in everyone else's too. Every situation he gets in the only thing he thinks about is himself and how it makes him look.

Why would his being a narcissist negatively affect our ability to root for him? Modern mass entertainment is a celebration of narcissism; it's one of the core virtues that keeps our Hollywood-and-Madison-Avenue-fueled society together.

You're supposed to root for Walt, in the sense that you're supposed to root for anyone (this is 21st century, and "rooting for someone" is, in many ways, too reactionary and, frankly, too boring for either cynical content producers or jaded content consumers). Now, they might decide to go a with a whole Sopranos angle by the end of it, whereby the creator decides to flip our sympathies at the last minute, and then act like a sanctimonious dick about it when people start calling for his anti-hero's blood, and judging by the
Spoiler:
stuff with Jesse
I'm guessing this is what they're going to do. But we won't stop rooting for him because he's a narcissist - his narcissism validates our own - we'll stop because he's destroying other characters we find sympathetic.

I mean, seriously. You've seen the Simpsons, right? Has there EVER been a single person, in the history of the world, who roots for Flanders, and not Homer?

The thing is that initially he wants the best for his family, but as the show goes on his moral fabric is stretched and he starts to see who he's becoming, who yes, maybe is a narcissist, but deep down he wants the best.

Frosty, you've got it completely backwards. He seems like he's trying to do the right thing, but as he's offered more and more help to take care of his bills he continually turns it down because of his ego, pride and narcissism. He's always thinking of himself. From the very beginning. Like I said, watch season 1 again.

Pride =/= narcissism. He wants to make ends meet on his own without help, and while it is selfish, it's a noble cause.

Yes. At least at the beginning, then you see Walter starting to change. I really feel bad for Walter most of the time for being put into this kind of situation where he needs quick money, but the only way to do that is to cook/sell drugs.

I'm going to have to agree with Frosty here, but it's honestly tough to tell.

Also, here's me and my friends' guess on how the rest of the season will turn out:
Hidden:
Hank will be mad at Walt, but will know that he cannot turn him in since he paid his medical bills with drug money. They'll feud for a bit, until Skylar goes somewhat crazy and tried to either

A) Try to turn in Walt to the DEA

B) Do something with Walt's money stacks, be it burning it or stashing it elsewhere

Walt will get angry and kill Skylar, which will make Hank angry to the point where he tries to kill Walt. Walt fakes his death and gets a new identity and moves. He gets irrationally mad at Hank, and gets pretty insane, and then returns to ABQ with a machine gun and guns down the DEA office like Scarface (like when him and Jr were watching it) in an attempt to kill Hank.
I know it leaved a lot of things open and some didn't make sense, but eh, whatever :P

Gray Matter's offer + his pride = sold drugs to make the money instead. However now he wants to leave his family well off if/when he dies, and the only way to get money like that is through what he has been doing.

Finished part 1 of season 5. On one hand, I can't wait for the [&@%!] to hit the fan with
Spoiler:
Hank basically having proof that Walt is Heisenburg (had to watch the end of it again to realize that it was signed by Gabe!)
, on the other hand, now that I've watched all that I can on Netflix, I don't have AMC, and since I watch the show with my mom and can't do any sort of illegal activity to watch the new episodes before they're officially released, since that would involve watching them on a tiny computer screen, what do I do with my life until then...
