I have been playing Arena for a couple of weeks now, along with my son. We are having some trouble figuring out what the magical effects of items might be. Otherwise, it is going great.
My character is a knight (to keep things simple ...). Only lvl 8, she has found a few things:
Elven Amulet
Crystal of Wanderlight
Crystal of Sanctuary
Mark of Sanctuary
The UESP page http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Arena:Magic_Items is less than helpful, but it is better than them interwebs generally. Even there, only one of these items is listed. Do we need to save, try an item, record the effect, and so on? Is there another list somewhere of at least the effects?
Thanks for reading this.

Re: Question about magic items
You have to remember that Arena and Daggerfall play a lot more like Dungeons and Dragon than the rest of the series. Item identification is a hassle, but important. Save scumming to determine its effects is a common strategy to learn what your magic gear does, but the legitimate alternative for those who don't want to risk it is to go to the Mages Guild. As for what the effect might be, see Arena:Magical Effects. I hope this helped!UESP Article Arena:Magic Items wrote:To find out what they do, you can either equip and use them or you can take them to a Mages Guild to be identified

Yes, I could almost hear the dice rolling.AKB wrote:You have to remember that Arena and Daggerfall play a lot more like Dungeons and Dragon than the rest of the series. Thank you for the link to the Magical Effects. I did not notice that link at the top of the Magic Items page. These items were FYI ID'd at the Mages Guild, which AFAIK only gives the name of the item. Save scumming. Sigh. Here we go. Again, many thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
Funny, actually, that we have one PC running Arena and the other running heavily-modded Skyrim.
