How to get rid of those expensive items?
Is there some place or some way to sell those really valuable items? When you start finding stuff that costs 3000, 5000, 15000, etc. no merchant can buy them.
I've tried bartering the valuable thing for a lot of the vendor's stuff, then sell back the stuff to the same or another vendor, but in the end I seem to have gained very little in the exchange (because I buy his stuff overpriced and I sell it back underpriced). So in the end I might get only about a 1000 overall gain for a 10000 value item. Might as well just give it away for what he can pay me.

The best way is selling them to an enchanter. First you should pay them a massive amount of money for making some very powerful item and then you can get it all back by selling all your expensive items. You will not make a lot of money, but you will barter your loot for a useful item, which is better IMO, because what's the point of carrying 500K septims anyway? One thing though - open the "store dialogue" before you buy the enchanted item, or the price won't be added to the vendor's money.

I sell my stuff to Creeper. He's a creature so he gives me the actual price and he carries 5000 gold. Once you sell something wait on the spot for 24 hours and he'll have 5000 gold again. Unlike the Mudcrab Merchant he buys more kinds of items and he is in a town with a mages guild, making it easy to get to him. However he does have less money.
So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?

I you aren't against adding Mods to your game, I suggest the Moonmoth Museum.
It adds a merchant with around 10-20,000 gold, although I think he only buys weapons, armour, and dwemer junk.

Just remember to be careful when you're looking for the Mudcrab Merchant - he looks just like every other Mudcrab and it's easy to kill him by mistake.

The way I see it is that the vendor is just trying to make a profit by re-selling your rare items. If you could sell items for exactly what they're worth, the vendor would gain nothing from the deal. It's simple economics, and the less you understand of these things, the more ripped off you'll be (like in real life). Also, just because an item is valuable, it doesn't mean you have to sell it. I like to keep my rare items as collectibles and if I do sell one, I'll reluctantly settle for a price much lower than it's real value.caralampio wrote:I've tried bartering the valuable thing for a lot of the vendor's stuff, then sell back the stuff to the same or another vendor, but in the end I seem to have gained very little in the exchange (because I buy his stuff overpriced and I sell it back underpriced). Re: How to get rid of those expensive items?
When you sell items to a merchant, or buy items from a merchant, their gold stores stay changed for 24 hours, and, at least in the case of Creeper, whatever items you sell them stay in their inventory forever.
Knowing this, it's possible to sell any item for a profit, first by selling many inexpensive items to a merchant over a period of days. Then, when you're ready to sell the expensive item, buy all the inexpensive items from the merchant, so they can afford your expensive item, sell it to them, then sell them all of the inexpensive items again.
For example, say you had a 10k item to sell. Creeper has 5k gold. Sell him one Indoril shield and one Indoril helmet, totaling 5k, and emptying his gold store. Wait 24 hours so he has 5k again. Buy the Indoril armour, and he'll have 10k. Sell him the 10k item, rest 24 hours, and sell him the Indoril stuff again.
And, Creeper will always give you a flat 1% bonus on things you buy or sell. If you play around with the items you use to barter, you can increase your profits by quite a bit.

Re: How to get rid of those expensive items?
You are never, ever going to find merchants who can give you full market price on certain items. That 30,000 ebony Katana is only ever gonna fetch you 10,000 or so and that's if you use the Tribunal expansion. In vanilla Morrowind about the best you're gonna manage is Creeper and Mudcrab Merchant. Some people consider that power-gaming but their presence helped me immensely. Creeper is much easier to get to but has less gold and accepts fewer things, if I recall.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

I've been doing what Dzio does with enchanters. I store all my expensive loot in my "house", then, when I want to make a crazy enchantment, I pay them a stupid amount of gold for it, then get it all back by selling them my old loot. It works out quite well.

I made myself a mod that gives Creeper and Mudcrab Merchant 500,000 gold and they buy/sell everything except spells. It makes life a lot easier even though it's technically a cheat.

Re: How to get rid of those expensive items?
I tend to do this and end up with at least a dozen different collectibles by the time a character of mine is level 15-20. If they have a house to stay in said collectibles usually get tossed on the bed, piled on tables and stacked on shelves.ClockworkCadaver wrote:Also, just because an item is valuable, it doesn't mean you have to sell it. Re: How to get rid of those expensive items?
Morrowind had this concept right, The average merchant living in a shack shouldnt be able to give you a real price on your priceless daedric artifact. You either sell for like 10% its value or keep it. Its absurd that in skyrim or oblivion some of the unique one of a kind items of godlike power can be purchased by any old rag merchant and the monetary value isn't much greater than a basic item.
