There have been rumors about Source 2, L4D3 and HL3 going around recently. This is either Valve setting rumors into the world and confusing everyone (typical but unlikely), or fake (likely). Time will tell.

'There is a rumour that allegedly a group of Dota 2 gamers, while taking a tour of the Valve office, took some pictures on the sly. These pictures include a snapshot monitor with some kind of log file. A closer look is supposed to reveal L4D3 and Source 2 being written there'.

I understand where you're coming from, this might make for clever viral marketing as this would get people talking a bit more. And I think everyone knows that they're going to release L4D3 sometime in the future. So while I seriously doubt this is Valve based on what I know, I think that we might be hearing an announcement sooner than later.

that's the image that got everyone excited. I don't think that is exciting as people made it out to be though. We had already had confirmation from the head writer that they were almost definitely going to do another, so until we get further information from Valve, we have no way of knowing what they're actually going to do with it. It's hard to remain optimistic about Valve during the long periods of time where virtually nothing comes in or out of the office. Honestly, it's impressive in this day and age, where you see major games like Skyrim fully leaked online before the official release date.

The main issue is that if we don't know if the .ru site is legitimate. We do know, however, that Source 2 and L4d3 are real things. That changelog just about said as much, and I think someone at Valve wasn't paying attention to the photos being taken.

The .ru site? Well, I would say most companies wouldn't permit a website to use a logo like that, but I am not sure if Valve has used Cease and Desist orders like that in the past. I tried checking the website's source the other day but no dice in regards if it was an official valve site. A whois look up renders no hard evidence if l4d3.ru is related to Valve at all either. (Different name servers, different IPs, etc.)

I'd like to think the countdown leads to something if no cease and desists were released. The countdown ends during Gamescom happening later this month, and I think a release soon would suit Valve's development cycle. Valve has been releasing a steady stream of at least one game per year since 2003. Let's not get our hopes up, but I would totally believe it if L4d3 was the first announced game on Source 2.

Does Valve ever actually do conventions, though? It's not like them, and I see absolutely no evidence that they have during a search. However, I, like most people, will be glad to see Source finally put to rest.

Edit: l4d3.com is owned by some random guy in California. Registered June 2009. You can WHOIS the domain and get his home address and phone number

Edit2: left4dead.com, left4dead2.com and l4d2.com are all just parked domains. Valve only has l4d.com registered, and on it they feature both the original and sequel.

Eurogamer is a trustworthy news site. This is a Russian website that is not affiliated with Valve. I don't even think this is the first time the "fake countdown clock" thing has been done in relation to Valve.
