Just wanna say that calling an artist by their given name and not their artist's pseudonym or whatever they go by is an incredibly [censored]-y and inconsiderate thing to do. I guess people do it to prove that they're more familiar with the artist and/or show fan affection or something? Whatever the reason, don't do it. They don't like it.

I guess in this case I should have used deadmau5, since it wasn't a video, but the download had it in the name, so still... It's [censored]-y says you. What a random thing to take a side on. Can you speak for every artist ever? I can understand if maybe the artist wants the credit, of course, but in this case he did get it the credit if you downloaded it and saw the obvious name, but if it's a money thing, it's not. Obviously this doesn't apply to this track since it's free, but for others, of course it's good to support him, but actually, this track was a "gift" to his fans after he bought his brand new Porsche 911. I don't know.

It's not about credit or money, it's about identity. I don't know what he's like about that, but as a general rule, artists make pseudonyms for a reason. That reason being that they want to project themselves as an artist. He makes and releases his music under the name deadmau5, not Joel. That makes him deadmau5 to you and anyone else who isn't affiliated with him personally.

Would you call a user here by their real name as opposed to their username without their consent?

Is it really that big of a deal what I call an artist? I'm not trying to be like, "Oh, I know this artist so well that I call him by his real name.", it's just that I called him by his real name. Yes, deadmau5 is the name which he releases albums on, and 99% of the time I call him by that, as to not confuse anyone. I don't think he cares much about what people call him. Joel Zimmerman and deadmau5 are both of the names people call him, but after knowing someone's work for a long time, sometimes it's easier to call someone by their real name every once in a while.
