What's a good laptop?

Post by Archer »

I know this thread has been done countless times before, but please hang in there with me. I'm getting a new laptop, but the only problem is that I know very little when it comes to the technical side and the reliability of brands of computers. I'd love it to be able to at least play Skyrim, hopefully medium but not required, but the kicker is that I can spend, at most, 600 dollars. Absolutely any help would be great.

I don't know how supped up they make them, but my laptop is an Asus, and I highly recommend the brand. Out of all the laptops I've owned, it's lasted the longest without any major issues. My particular make plays Skyrim on super low graphics, but as a brand I love Asus.

With 600 dollars and if you're willing to use eBay, you could buy a laptop that would play Skyrim on highest settings at a very comfortable frame rate.

Such as this.

For others, check this page. Just be sure sure to check all of the specifications.

What difference would there be between an AMD Radeon HD 8400G graphics card and an 1GB HD 8670M Discrete card? Or would those even play Skyrim?

The 8670M has twice as much memory and a higher clock speed. It's faster in every way. The 8670M would play Skyrim on high settings, the 8400G on low to medium settings.

I think the AMD might be able to do better that. I'll have to wait until I'm home but I'm pretty sure I have an earlier model of AMD (laptop was purchased two years ago for $550 CAD) with 6 gig RAM and it runs Skyrim on high quite comfortably. The only time I ever had any lag issues was when I was running Skyrim with Moonpath to Elsweyr active.

They're both AMD's, but I think I've found the laptop I want. Thanks for the help everyone.
