Couldn't much today>_< to many hazes and blurs.. so I ended up reading some random medical book to ease my mind. I forget the name of it
but I can say it was about the pulmonary system

Re: The 'What are you reading at the moment' thread
I think I have read just about all of the Haalo books. Ghosts of Onyx and first strike have got to be my favorite ones.Venger wrote:These pages are dedicated to you sharing with the forum that special book/article/magazine/forum you've been reading. If you so decide to post, please give the name of the thing you reading as well as a quick overview of the book. If you wish, you may also give a rating on the book as you see fit.
At the moment I am reading Halo: The Fall of Reach. This novel gives more detail about the SPARTAN II program as well as how the great UNSC stronghold planet of Reach fell to the Covenant juggernaut. I recommend this, and other books in the series to any serious Halo fanatic wanting to know more about the series. Other books in the series include as follows: Halo: Contact Harvest, Halo: The Cole Protocol, Halo: First Strike, Halo: The Flood and many others.

Right now I'm reading the first book in the Dunk and Egg series before I move onto the next book in the ASOIAF series.

Right now I'm reading The Sound and the Fury and Cry, the Beloved Country concurrently. The latter is for school; the former is to make the latter easier to read.

While Faulkner may be a challenge to read, I found this challenge an enjoyable one.Gideon Dragontongue wrote:Right now I'm reading The Sound and the Fury

Frankly, I'm just glad he decided to use quotation marks for the most part.

Re: The 'What are you reading at the moment' thread
That's a massive aid.
I wonder if there are any editions that reflect Faulkner's original intention of using different-coloured inks to better navigate the reader among the mash-up of narratives. The ones I came across only made do with quotation marks and italics.
Fun fact: there are some who count Faulkner among fantasy writers, since he created a thoroughly well-developed fictional world (the Yoknapatwpha County), up to the point of drawing a map, writing demographic statistics and creating a biography card for each of its inhabitants.

Re: The 'What are you reading at the moment' thread
Finishing my re-read of the original Dracula. I thought that having some social context to compare it to 19th century England (because let's face it, the Dracula part of the book is boring as hell) might make it more interesting, but it didn't, really. Still, it was more interesting than when I read it at age 11.
I'll be reading Fahrenheit 451 for the first time after that.

I've just started reading "Clan of the Cave Bear" for the first time, after finding it for 50 cents at a used book sale.

I'm starting Speaker for the Dead tonight. Hopefully it'll help me decide whether I want to go through with reading the rest of the Ender series (including the Shadow ones) or not.
Start the groove.

I read quite a bunch of these and liked them, but after a while I hit a saturation point and just had to stop.EpicAbrad wrote:I'm starting Speaker for the Dead tonight. I actually like Speaker for the Dead and Xenocide better than Ender's Game, to be honest.

My problem, I think, is that I marathonned them. I enjoyed them, but it's not one of those "can never get sick of it" sort of things for me.

The Percy Jackson series is one that EVERYONE should read. No exceptions. The original books are (marginally) better than the Heroes of Olympus books, though. Just so you know.Thelastdovah wrote:Darren Shan's Saga of Darren Shan. Have got the first trilogy and am at the third book at the moment. Tis excellent and has a unique approach to vampires. Also Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire. Oh and I think I may try to pick up the Percy Jackson series due to Uno's roleplay. I'm going to need a lot more space for more books.

Just finished for the 10th time; Kent Anderson's Sympathy for the Devil and Night Dogs (I try to read these whenever my PTSD starts to take me to that DARK place). I also read Smedly Butler's War is a Racket! and I read the whole screen play of Monty Python's Holy Grail in about 15min while taking my morning constitutional (now after 40+ years I finally get what kennigit means).

I borrowed a copy of my 8 year old daughters and after the first couple of chapters I felt like I had to call my mommy to come and tie my shoelaces for me. My kid thought they were a little immature (and she's 8!).cowleyj wrote:The Percy Jackson series is one that EVERYONE should read. No exceptions. I shall attempt to get the books. I refuse to pay £8 per book as I know for a fact that I can get a few a lot cheaper if they turn up in charity shops.cowleyj wrote:The Percy Jackson series is one that EVERYONE should read. One does not simply "lose interest" in the Lord of the Rings.

This one does. This one also proclaims himself as the true lord of the rings. And believes that we should get back on topic to avoid the pinkies or greenies from doing a Gandalf on us.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, by Philip Dick
seen bladerunner loads but never read the book, and like a couple of the other PKDick books I have read, it's confusing me quite a lot because things happen that the main character isn't expecting which are usually explained in a way which I wasn't expecting
and whilst I am in this state of confusion, I dont know if i am confused cos i missed something, or if it's just the book was written 50 years ago and i don't get something, or if it's just the story wants me to be confused and everything will be dealt with in time..
It's a strange experience knowing the movie so well and it not being much like the novel. The story premise starts with Rick Deckard wanting to replace his imitation sheep with a real one, to score one up on the neighbours (one of whom has an actual real pregnant horse) and also possibly so his wife will be nicer to him and stop programming herself with negative feelings from her emotion machine lol
strange but rewarding so far

Currently reading a short fantasy novel: 'The Light of Kerrindryr' about a young elf soldier. Its pretty interesting, I'm liking it so far though I never read about elfs.
TLD: LOTR is a commitment, don't blame you. I've only read the Hobbit. But I have a hard time making it through series...unless its Agatha Christie. For good reading material, I've found Amazon to be great in just surfing and finding random books.

Graduate Admissions Essays...because knowledge is power.
Also reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lack by Rebecca Skloot. A really interesting true story about bioethics and cells and cool sciencey things, and about HeLa, which a lot of people don't know about.
