I am going to be leaving today for a week or two, the first week being at the beach until next saturday, the second week I may be watching children. I may be here for a few hours today but since I cannot guarantee this I decided to post this now. See you all in a couple weeks.

Re: Welcomes and Goodbyes
Hello to everyone!
I'm new here, so maybe an introduction would be in order. In a nutshell: I'm a Finnish 28-year-old man who has played Elder Scrolls games since the 1990's. I started with a copy of Daggerfall in 1998 which my uncle gave me and my brother. It was an exciting yet frustrating experience, since I had virtually no idea of game mechanics like levelling up etc. and my English skills were so poor that I barely understood what the whole thing was about. So I just wandered around doing miscellaneous quests and the sort.
Then, I moved to live on my own in 2004 and one of the first things I bought was a computer. With the machine came a few game CD's, among which was Morrowind. It was love at the first sight, but that cooled soon after so many things in the game started to annoy me. Fortunately I stumbled upon the modding community (the existence of which I hadn't been aware of) and after installing a bunch of mods the game became my favourite. I must have played Morrowind well over a thousand hours on over a dozen characters.
Then, I bought Oblivion soon after it came out but my PC couldn't run it. It was only in 2010 when I bought a "new" used PC that I could play it. An unleveling mod made away with my biggest peeve with Oblivion, after which I have played it a maybe a few hundreds of hours with four or five characters. I love that game, too, and don't really understand the rage about it not being exactly like Morrowind.
This spring I bought yet another used PC, this time specifically searching for as cheap one as possible that could run Skyrim at tolerable settings. I found a good bargain that actually runs the game quite well at high settings, bought Skyrim and installed it. To date, I've logged in 164 hours with four characters. Surprisingly, many changes from Oblivion I thought I would hate (e.g. lack of stats and classes) have actually turned out to be positive things. I tended to grind certain skills in Morrowind and Oblivion to get +5 multipliers to at least Strength and Endurance, and it's a huge relief not to have to do that anymore. Sure, there are some pitfalls in the new system, but IMO they are easier to avoid.
So, that's my history with the ES series. The reason I registered on this forum was actually because I wanted to get help with a graphics problem. But now that I sorted it out by myself, I might as well join the other discussions.

Re: Welcomes and Goodbyes
Welcome Nord85! This site is a lot of fun.
Speaking of fun, I'll be gone for a couple days to go do some wild harvesting up north. Going back to Chickaloon (I love saying that name) and hopefully I'll score some ready herbs in the wilderness, and not get eaten by a bear in the process.

Re: Welcomes and Goodbyes
Greets. New here, thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm a 41 year old male geek.
I suppose I'd be considered a newcomer to the TES series, since I didn't start playing until Oblivion. I've played both Oblivion and Skyrim, along with most of their respective add-ons. In both games I tend to like archery and sword and board tactics, with a heavy dose of stealth. Casting spells annoys me, and in both games with a couple of exceptions where I made a dedicated caster, magic skills (other then the pseudo-magic crafting skills) are either ignored or used for the express purpose of leveling. Due to military obligations, I missed the Skyrim launch, and was not able to start playing the game until Aug '12.
That said, however, I'm definitely a longtime gamer. I started in the late 70s with basic D&D, and in addition to that and AD&D I've played numerous tabletop games extensively. I did some early console gaming on an Atari 800, but it didn't really hold any interest. I started my true computer gaming experience with the game StarFlight, played on my parent's 8088. I started playing Nethack super early on in its development, and was also a fan of early MUD style games, specifically DikuMUD. Bard's Tale, however, was probably the game that truly got me hooked as a PC gamer, and I bet I spent several hundred hours playing that. I still have fond memories of 99 barbarians, 99 barbarians, 99 barbarians, and 99 barbarians.
GRSU followed by triple MIBL and then let the game scroll for half an hour while it resolved combat.
I rarely play 1-off games, and prefer series titles. I've played every incarnation of the Civ series, and the Diablo series, although Diablo III basically, well, stunk. I played the last two games of Mass Effect, and loved everything about that series, other then the last 10 minutes of ME3. I had the misfortune of being introduced to Everquest by my RL friends in late 1999, and ended up playing my primary toon for a mind-boggling 9.5 years with over 800 *days* in game. I *still* have EQ flashbacks and I quit in April of '09. Aside from Skyrim, my most recent games are ME3 and Witcher 2, which to this day remains one of the few games I have started but never finished.
I don't like shooters, because I am seriously bad at them, and sports games drive me bonkers. I do own a console, a PS3, but the only game I've played on it is Rage, which I enjoyed.
My current computer is a dedicated gaming rig built for the express purpose of playing Skyrim, just as my previous computer was built for the express purpose of playing Oblivion. I run a water-cooled Intel i7 3970X chip that uses a pair of Nvidia GeForce 680 GTX cards in SLI, all housed in a monstrous Cosmos II case. A 46" Sony Bravia serves as my monitor. I finished my military service in Jul of '12, and when I got home I spent 3 weeks with Oblivion while I had my new rig built. I switch on and off between Skyrim and CiV as the game I play. Usually one or the other for several weeks, then switch. Every now and then I fire up Diablo II for some full-on demon-wrecking.
Cheers. Glad to be here.
