Re: The food thread
I baked husband a birthday cake. More specifically, I baked him a sour cream chocolate cake with peanut butter cream cheese frosting and a chocolate peanut butter glaze. Decorated with peanut brittle.

Re: The food thread
So today I made myself some Japanese curry laid upon a bed of rice. Really good for a first try
next time I'll sort things out better<_< the seasoned beef was great but the carrot was a bit under cooked and the spices needed some work. I also need to work on the heat, I liked it but my family can't even stand mild...

Re: The food thread
I'd like to resurrect this thread for this.
I've been experimenting a bit and came up with this bruschetta-like beauty.
I spread garden vegetable cream cheese on the bread, add some garlic powder on top of that. Cut a slice of Monterey Jack and Pepper Jack cheese covering that, cut three thin slices of tomato and add it. Then some basil and parsley on top. Put it in the oven at 350 until the cheese is melted. Top it of with some pico de gallo and a little bit of olive oil.

Re: The food thread
I'm quite into food. I'm from Sydney, Australia, which is one of the best cities for food in the world. I'm also within walking distance of the CBD, so eating out is something that I do quite regularly - though unfortunately I'm not rich enough to afford to eat at our best restaurants (many of the world's best restaurants are located here!). The great thing about Sydney is that it's very multicultural. There are so many choices, and I'm open minded enough to try almost anything. Even on a budget, there's a ton of incredibly good food available. If I were rich, I'd eat out every meal.
However, I'm forced to cook for myself most of the time. These days, I'm actually getting pretty good at it. A while ago I was lucky enough to learn some of the basics of Italian cooking from my girlfriend's dad, who was once a mildly acclaimed chef. For a long time, I think he would've been embarrassed to be associated with any of the meals that I cook, but I think he'd be proud of a few of the things I've been serving up recently.
Recently I've been trying to learn how to make a few Indian curries. Specifically, vegetarian curries. I made one tonight, actually. It wasn't perfect, but I'm getting better.

That's not what I said; I said that it was one of the best... You don't think so? How far down do you think it is?

Re: The food thread
I don't know much about fine dining, or anything, really. But I've actually never heard Sydney mentioned, ever. It's usually places like Barcelona and London and Paris and Mexico City. Melbourne maybe, too, pretty sure I heard it mentioned once. Sydney however; no.

You won't find Sydney in many top 10 lists, but it comes up a bit in top 20 lists.

Re: The food thread
In 2005, 2006 and 2007, a Sydney restaurant, Tetsuya's, was ranked within the top 5 in the world. I've never eaten there, but a local foodhall contains a fairly fancy oyster bar where they serve up Oysters with Tetsuya's dressing. They're expensive, but they're by far the best thing I've ever eaten in my entire life. Gordon Ramsay even said of them, "I’ve eaten oysters many ways in my professional life but none has been quite so memorable as those prepared by the great Australian chef Tetsuya Wakuda". The recipe can be found online if anyone is interested. I've taken a number of people there and everyone has agreed that they are absolutely fantastic.

Re: The food thread
How do you rate the best Moebid? Food's certainly subjective, so if your opinion is Sydney has the best food in the world then you're technically correct.
That being said if we go by the Michelin guide, Tokyo takes the cake BY FAR. Check this out, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mi ... estaurants
That being said, I feel Michelin ratings are ridiculous. It's more about the art of cooking rather than the food itself in the sense of one needing a meal. It's not a very American thing, yet NYC is one of the best in the world for fine dining.

Re: The food thread
I said on the previous page, "You won't find Sydney in many top 10 lists, but it comes up a bit in top 20 lists." So I'm just basing it on the fact that lost of other people think it's one of the best. And Michelin Stars don't exist in Australia, so trying to base it on those would be impossible.

Re: The food thread
To rerail back on topic... "whistles a bit"
So I've been experimenting a bit. I'm a good cook, only my brother can outshine me but then again he puts everyone to shame. However while he focuses on meats, I go for veggies and the like. While he goes for expensive quality and exotics, I focus on health and full flavor.
So anyways I've been testing a bit with my baking. I use to make plenty of cakes for friends, full of so much good stuff. If I was to combine that with my bro's gf who makes an art out of frosting cupcakes, we could make some business
Still, I've been testing a bit trying to find a recipe to impress a friend. Her bday is coming up and I really wanna go all out with special. My dear friend Oreo (aka Makayla) whom I've known for many years, and once had a small spark with
Still, I think I may try my luck with the Cheeky Chocolate Cheery Pot from Sortedfood. Normally I wouldn't go for something so nice, but rarely does she ever get treated to something of the like. I may make a few tests, and see how rimming the side in brownsugar/cinnamon may taste

Because pistachios are delicious, and the addition of pistachios makes many foods superior.

Re: The food thread
Pistachio ice cream is one of the best tasting flavors. Along with cherry ice cream, its heaven.
