Re: Fallout Series Discussion
Obsidian most likely won't be back though, unless their love of the series is really enough to ignore the way Zenimax treated them about New Vegas. Which is a shame because they're way better than Bethesda at actually designing a Fallout game instead of a game set in the Fallout world but whatever, I can live with it. I'll most likely still enjoy Fallout 4 provided it stays far away from California.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I never enjoyed Obsidians games, so i don't mind if they have nothing to do with it.
I always thought a Fallout game set in Alaska could be good. it did have a big part in Fallout history, so i just wanted to see what it was like after the bombs. though in the end, as long as it isn't another west coast game, i don't mind.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
They've (well Feargus Urquhart anyway) expressed interest on working on the Fallout IP in the future.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
Yeah, I'd enjoy canada as well. they could include old stories about people rioting against the US and such (not that we take part in them,
just reading about the after effects far into the future
), it would be interesting.
plus, a lot of weaponry could be available. (at least, i think so?)

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
Well if this is anything to go by not everyone was happy with the annexation.
I don't see why it wouldn't have weapons. There was probably martial law, US troops patrolled the streets to 'keep the peace.' Also according to Fallout 3 it did have vaults.

Yeah, i meant that there might be even more weapons, because there was so much trouble in Canada. in the end, it's just me being gun crazy and wanting some good stuff.
didn't they use it as a front line against the chinese, as well?

So there is confirmation that Fallout 4 is being completely done by Bethesda, and not Obsidion? Please tell me it is.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I doubt Obsidian will want to work for Bethesda again due to them screwing them over with the meta critic clause. They lost out on their bonuses because it was 1 point under the required score. I do hope Fallout 4 will be original and not recycle the plots of 1 and 2.

Not to mention Zenimax giving them an absurdly small time window for actually building the game and blaming them for the initial release being so buggy.
Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I dislike Fallout, that's no secret. However, an interesting idea would be to have Fallout 4 take place during the rebuilding of the world. Real nations are being formed again, etc, etc.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
That will never happen as Fallout has always taken place in America and focuses on said country. But it would be nice to find out what state the rest of the world is in.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I just provided a link to the Obsidian CEO saying they would love to work on Fallout in the future a few posts back. I think it is safe to say they would be willing to work on Fallout in future.
Rebuilding civilisation and how different factions go about it is what New Vegas was about. It is what lots of Fallout at large is about. The post-post-apocalypse. They don't just wallow in the war forever. Sure it is a new dark age, but said dark age won't last forever. I don't see the problem with doing Interquels and Prequels in new locations rather than just keep going on chronologically. Because if you just keep going you'll encounter one of two problems.
1) It isn't about a wasteland anymore because humanity is back on its feet and the dark age is over.
2) Humanity has just been sitting around doing nothing to get back on its feet for hundreds of years.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
Well, technically, they've dealt with that before. KotOR 2 was needed to be delievered in 14 months, I recall or less. Which resulted in much cut content, and they even wanted to do what they did in New Vegas and release the cut content in form of DLC. Lucasarts wouldn't do it, I guess Zenimax gave them some luxury.Veck wrote:Not to mention Zenimax giving them an absurdly small time window for actually building the game and blaming them for the initial release being so buggy.
Bottomline Bethesda sucks with Fallout games. Obsidian is at least nearly decent. Can Bethesda make good games anymore? I dunno. Anymore than Lucasarts could all on their own.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I think Bethesda were not ready for Fallout when they were given the rights to Fallout at the time of Fallout 3. But they are not the best story tellers. Fallout 3 was an average game but the plot was predictable and had some gaping plot holes. Broken Steel introduced a massive one and should not have been released. It should have been part of the main quest of 3.
I had forgotten that Fallout New Vegas dealt with that as it's been ages since i've played it. In my opinion, Fallout:NV is what a Fallout game should be like. Although i do wish that Obsidian didn't use the very buggy Gamebryo engine as it tends to crash and energy weapons turn it into a game of don't you dare crash now.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
See, based on what people say about Fallout: New Vegas, about how it is what a ''real'' Fallout game should be like, i don't think i would actually enjoy the original Fallouts if they are like NV.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I vastly disagree with people who say FNV is what a 'real' Fallout game should be. It's not, but it's at least a step in a coherent direction. It has many flaws storywise, and still has a big problem concerning bringing in Fallout-morality, because it's so straw-maned and so stupid that it reminds me of the 'good' and 'evil' that was just blatantly in FO3.
F1, F2, and Fallout Tactics were things in themselves and very complex. They had their own holes, but they also had an atmosphere around them and twists that were not commonly found in video games. (See Fallout 1 and Arcanum) The problem also is - you haven't played the originals. Why haven't you. Playing Fallout 3 and only that is similar as to watching the Star Wars prequels and claiming they are the best. Yet not even bothering to watch the originals, and stick with no-story, not-good-action. Play all the games and judge for yourself.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I don't think i will be playing them. i wasn't really amazed with what i read, and it didn't sound like the kind of thing i would enjoy. meaning: if someone were to show me Fallout 1 or 2 and tell me to play them without me knowing what they were, i probably wouldn't bother with them, either. I'm not going to say ''they are bad'' or ''they are good'', I think i'll just leave them alone for the time being.
who knows, maybe I'll change my mind eventually.

It is rumored Fallout 4 will be set near the commonwealth. Anyone remember that quest in Fallout 3? The Replicated Man? I think they are going to make those androids a part of the story in some way.

Techincally, we can turn into a cyborg in most of the games. It usually doesn't have a physical representation of the perk though.

I'm talking about actually getting giant metal things shoved into your brain and getting bullet time powers for it or something. Anything that will spice up gameplay and take away the need for vats is good in my book.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I think Bethesda may incorpate the bullet time mod into Fallout 4 due to how popular that is. They are known to use ideas by the modding community in their games. Even if they sometimes do a version that is not as good as the original. It would be interesting if we could turn ourselves into cyborgs with various perks and drawbacks as well as it being a choice that we can't go back on.
