Touch Spells

This is probably a really dumb question, but hey-- I'm a noob and I prefer Target spells.

I finally got a Convalesce (Touch) spell and want to use it on friendlies during quests. The problem: How do you use Touch spells? The user's guide doesn't say anything about it.

I figure that if I "touch" a friendly NPC (to heal them) with my sword or my fists, they might not like it, and activating them (like you would do for conversation or pickpocketing) doesn't seem to work.

I guess I'm a little slow on the uptake here. What am I missing?

All you have to do is be close enough to them and press "cast". Can sometimes be difficult if they are walking around, I use a charm spell(to up my skills)on the guards in the waterfront district and I miss on occasion because they move out of the way.
