I can play just about any game>_> and many turn out to be fun, but rarely do I love a game such as I do with ES
It's that eminence backstory and attention to lore that really drew me in. I will not lie, Morrowind was a first for me^_^ and I'm barely an RP fan...
Still, the mix of lore and fantasy is what makes the series stands out so well, it truly is unique among it's class. It's obvious when I love a series  seeing as I spend more time reading about it than actually playing

I voted fantasy elements and open world. I've always loved games with huge worlds and freedom for you to do whatever you want, and I love fantasy. This is what made me interested in Skyrim. I do love the lore of The Elder Scrolls as well, makes the world so much more realistic, but that's not what brought me in the first place, and I spend more time just wandering around aimlessly than reading the books. Lore's probably my third choice, and graphics are my fourth.

I didn't take much notice of the story/lore in the beginning, some of it just seems generic but almost all the other options kept me engaged in The Elder Scrolls. I chose Open World and Customization, the latter for me, for any game that I play I am always interested in customization. Of course there are genres of games or even those in some way similar like Zelda that I don't mind if there is next to no free customization, but the stories usually compensate.

I think for the question, the most well-suited answer in most people's idea would have to be customization or open/world, who knows maybe one-day I can get emerged into the lore properly, until then I don't mind strolling around inns, sitting down, having drinks and listening to those Bards flick the strings. :P

But knowing all the work gone into all the Mers' background I guess I might choose Lore as a third option, who knows...

...On second thought, I think my third option would probably be my attachment to the spell schools, i.e. Conjuration

Open World and Customization/Personalization

Those two allow for what I really like to do: Create interesting characters and see what they become in the world they are suddenly thrown into. Even though I begin with detailed concepts for the characters, once out in the world, they always end up evolving in ways I didn't expect.

3rd choice would be Scenery/Graphics. I like to play in a great looking world. I especially like the variety of environments in Oblivion and Skyrim.

Skyrim did have a large variety of environments, but I don't think Oblivion did.

Oblivion had plains, forests, swamps, frosty mountains, etc.

For me this was a no-brainer.

Lore because I love the links and backstory to the world and the huge depth from cheeses to religious texts!

Open World because the freedom to do what I want and go where I please as I make history in Tamriel hooked me into the series just as much as the lore. Ah I remember those first days when I stepped out of the sewers into Cyrodiil and had my mind blown by the vastness, beauty and mystery of this new land! Those were the days!

I picked Story/Lore and Open World, but the fantasy elements would have been my third choice.

The fact that it was a highly reccomended fantasy RPG is what made me pick up Oblivion in the first place. What got me hooked is the breadth of the story and worldbuilding, and the fact that nothing's forced on you. You can't lose anything by not getting your timing exactly right, you're not being forced into playing as an embarassing moron, I'm not forced into playing a hero of the opposite gender and I'm aren't forced into a tacked-on romance subplot with a cookie-cutter love interest. It all serves to make the setting feel so much more real than most other games out there.
