The pendragon cycle

Post by sevenindasun »

Excellent reads.. Stephen r lawhead.
Years ago when I was younger and tv wasnt so great I saw a movie called Excalibur and thought there should have been more.. A few years ago I married a librarian and began searching for great fantasy books, my passion, and I ran across s.r. Lawhead and the pendragon cycle series.. Now the movie strayed from the books as do most and this story has been retold a hundred times over most recently a mini series called adventures of Merlin which is a bit off from the books as well and off from most book by a wide margin ( mists of Avalon) told through morganas perspective as well as other sorceress.. The mini series is a bit copy and paste as with most series bad guy catch the bad guy all is well but the story behind the action is charming..
Mostly I'm always disappointed since reading the pendragon cycles that no movie even comes close to the Arthurian tales of the pendragons or of Merlin.. The sword in the stone was basically a remake of Excalibur which a lot of ppl don't realize the swork Arthur pulled from the stone isn't Excalibur.. The sword in the stone broke in battle and Arthur tossed it into a stream then a sorceress appeared from the water and handed arthur Excalibur and promised peace in Camelot as long as Arthur wielded the sword..
Same with Merlin being misrepresented in most films books and decently this mini series they made..
If you get the chance pick up the cycle series mentioned in the title, if you a fan of magic, and mythical fantasy novels you will love them...

Have you read Jack Whyte's: A Dream of Eagles series? A very believable Pendragon saga.

Hey guys, locking this conversation because it would go better in the "What are you reading" thread, Arts Section.
