The housecarl from Markarth, Vilkas, or Farkas. Vilkas talks back a little too much sometimes, but he makes me laugh 4 no (disernable) reason. Argis (the housecarl) did not work out very well because I have not seem his since the wedding. That was four Skyrim weeks ago. Farkas because he does not talk back and is nice to have around when in battle. I've thought about that hireling @ the Bee & Barb but I've never really gotten 'round to it. I can never remember if you can marry that blacksmith in Understone Keep. I should really look into that, huh?

Re: Your Skyrim Spouse
I've been playing my character close to 400 hours now on Legendary, nearly level 100 (legitimately) and the story of my spouse is a sad one.
I am an Orc, and was married to Aela the Huntress since very early in the game (after completing the Companions story line at least, probably around the 150 hour mark). I chose Aela becuase of her natural disposition towards nature, savagery, and also that she was a fellow beast blood. She seemed the only non Orc that could actually love an Orc as her Husband.
We adventured, we dungeon dove, we built our house together in Hjaalmarch, we adopted two children, hunted down the Totems of Hircine, and became wealthy together. After some time she became ill, she would constantly attack me when I came home, she would no longer speak to me, not even my master Illusion spells would work to calm her down. Regrettably I had to put her out of her misery, and keep her mad self away from the Children. I took her to our favorite spot near our house, but away from the eyes of the homestead's population, and slew her. Proceeded to bury her there after a short prayer to Hircine and Malacath. And whenever the kids now ask "Papa, where's mama at?" I can only respond with a tear in my eye "She had to go away for a little while." I'll tell them the truth when they're of age.
I will continue to be the Champion of Hircine, so that when my time is up on Mundus, I can rejoin Aela in the Grove of Hircine and hunt with her for eternity, sacrificing my offer to return to Sovngarde and be among the heroes of legend.
(Aela got the game's bug where she will continually attack you/start dialogue with you. I dealt with this for an incredible amount of time while searching for a fix, but eventually it become to frustrating since I visit my home very often, and I eventually took her in the hills and killed her so i wouldn't have to deal with it anymore. And, a couple of hours after killing her, I then found out that the bug is fixable by clearing your bounty in all holds, but it was too late, lol)
This story just goes to show you, that no matter how powerful you become, there are just some things that you can never prevent.

I always seem to kill my loved one at the end... and somehow I enjoy it.
I mean, killing Ysolda (I think that's her name, I tend to forget the names of my victims) was beautiful. In the Whiterun house, her body over the fire, cooking.
...so yeah!

Re: Your Skyrim Spouse
Jarna my Dunmer thiefmage and Thieves Guild member found a charming Nord sellsword named Vorstag in an inn in Markarth directly after beating the [&@%!] out of the brawl opportunity there, almost as if he approached her after seeing her prowess in a fistfight. Together they went on adventures all throughout Skyrim, killing bandits, dragons, draugr and sabrecats alike, looting and stealing as they pleased until one day in Jarna's home hold of Riften, she wore the Amulet of Mara and asked him to join her on another kind of journey. Naturally, he accepted and they went back to Markarth, only to find out that the only thing he owned was an inn bed. After a long journey of raiding camps and caves, they made it back to Riften and soon Jarna bought them a more proper place to live. It was there Vorstag decided to stay behind and run a store, even though he wasn't about to fence his wife's stolen goods.
Time went on and Jarna was quite fond of Karliah from the start, but she was upset that Karliah wouldn't come on caped Nightingale adventures with her the end of the Thieves Guild questline. But one day after she'd had adventures all over Skyrim with all sorts of different people, she went into the Nightingale Hall to see her old friend and fellow Nightingale, and to her surprise, she agreed to come along. So for about three weeks, they wrecked [&@%!] and looked cool in their matching caped armor like firece Dunmer warrior queens of the night, but then Jarna discovered that the swords of the Silver Hand members could be melted down into silver for silversmithing and thus joined the Companions. For the first main quest with her new faction, some [@#@] named farkas joined her and replaced her precious Karliah ): So off she went, full of promises to make them both really rich from all the silver Jarna would come to gather from the swords of the Silver Hand.
[My Dunmer character was my first one so she married Vorstag because he had her back but then I got a mod that makes Karliah a follower and the idea of them married was pretty great but she's already married therefore Karliah always follows her kind under the guise of being really close friends when they're really secret lovers]
Lokka the Imperial bandit with dreams to be a legit jewlery merchant came across the Orcish stronghold of Mor Khazgur entirely by accident. To her great surprise, exterminating the mercenaries in Karthwasten made her blood-kin because it helped an Orc that worked the mines and she was welcomed in. She saw a heavily armored sighing about her future as she hacked into a straw training dummy and after a brief conversation, Lokka realized that Borgakh the Steel Heart was not meant to be kept in the stronghold without at least some taste of adventure. She paid her dowry and brawled her father to prove that she would not lead his daughter to her doom and together she and Borgakh adventured through the mountains and snow, until they reached Riften after a very long trip with many stops. It was there Lokka wore the Amulet of Mara and she asked Borgakh if she would like to continue this life of adventure-permanently. There was concern about customs of the Orcish but the next day they married to an almost full temple, with friends and members of various Orcish strongholds watching. When they returned to Mor Khazgur, Lokka was overjoyed to see that together they owned just about all of the stronghold, complete with the mine and crafting gear.
[I really love filling in the details where the game leaves them out about their courtship and life after being married. It adds another layer to the immersion tbh]

I, uh, might have a Brelyna Maryon playlist. And "The Perfect Girl" by The Cure, uh, might be on it. I love Bre, I married her to a female Redguard and later to a male Altmer.Cosser wrote:I married Brelyna Maryon love her first time I talk to her
I've been thinking of creating a female Khajiit NPC and attaching either the Avrusa Sarethi or female Argonian voice to her so she'd have marriage dialogue. That might sorta work.

Who on here actually got Aicantar as a force spouse? Tried adding him numerous times and it didn't work. I don't want a mod though.

Re: Your Skyrim Spouse
I console-spoused Aicantar. There's no quest that makes him your "friend" so besides adding him to the marriage faction I also had to improve our relationship with the "setrelationshiprank" command. Calcelmo came to our wedding.
Then there was the time I was trying to make Gwilin a spouse and trying all kinds of nutty stuff before I remembered that I hadn't been to Riften to talk to Maramal about marriage. I felt kinda silly there.

Well, shoot.
You talked to Maramal, got an amulet of Mara, are wearing it, selecting Aicantar in the console and entering commands like "setrelationshiprank 14 3" and "addfac 19809 1"...does adding him to the follower faction work? Can anyone else figure this out or tell me if I'm remembering commands wrong?

I've lost my chances with Sorex Vinius four times because Angeline Morrard always gets in the way. I always seem to forget Angeline Morrad quest dismisses Sorex's quest.

My redguard married Brelyna (nice girl, handy with magic but slightly annoying dialog) before I got Hearthfire because all the other chicks looked the same to him. My female Bosmer is still having fun partying with her GF Serena right now!

I swear, marriage is so dry in this game its not funny. It's like marriage with a condom. Just kinda "Hey there, we'll bang, ok?"
Hope they do something much better in TES: VI

I always consider my spouse as a new Merchant that available every possible time which is quiteful helpful . I'm sure it will get better in TES : VI, I mean, adopted kids are a slight improvement of family that have more interactions and we'll get to see them outside the house ,not only skulking about at home like spouses do.boltonbrowne wrote:I swear, marriage is so dry in this game its not funny. I myself think the marriage is adequate enough that it doesn't need to be enhanced dramatically.

Not sure who I should marry in my game. Character is a Bosmer, Stealthy, Archer, Alchemist. He is a preferred loner except when it is necessary to have a companion. Any ideas on who he could marry?

Re: Your Skyrim Spouse
Aside from the obvious disappointment in the lack of Bosmer or Khajiit spouses, my primary qualm with Marriage in Skyrim is that it's so very simple to reach. I mean, go to The Bannered Mare, beat up Uthgerd, and all of a sudden she likes you? And you're expected to like her? No- I beat her up because a) she gives me money, and b) her attitude stinks. (That doesn't mean I beat up women when they annoy me in real life, mind you
)
Any spouse is the same, do some menial task that lasts less than a day in game-time, return, put on a pretty necklace, and supposedly then instantly fall for the really, really desperate person who just paid you. And notice, despite the fact Maramal says if they're looking to get married, they wear the amulet, whereas in actual fact, only you partake in that ritual--¬ We've all been scammed by a priest.
The one, ONE exception to this, where you actually build a relationship up with the NPC, is obviously Serana, and guess what? Not eligible for marriage. I love the idea of marriage in TES, but it definitely needs some improvement... hopefully we'll have that in TES:VI. As previously mentioned by Pancake, adoption was a huge improvement, and it even added another generic dialogue interaction between you and your 'loved one' -inquiring about the kids, but it's still not enough. Let's just hope they use it as a learning curve.
