Re: Morrowind General Discussion
I was wondering if the possibility for a Morrowind remake has been discussed anywhere on these forums.
I think it woiuld be rather nice.
Keep the game mechanics the same, the level up system the same, just get an upgraded engine, upgraded graphics and the like. Also fix the long load times that Morrowind is known for.

Nice!, thanks.
And I assume you need the original game on PC to access the mods they have on that website?
(poor lad, always knew PC was better than any console)

You actually need both games. Oblivion and Morrowind.

Re: Morrowind General Discussion
A remake was discussed at the official forums, I think the thread is still on page 1 or 2 in the general section. I personally don't trust Bethesda to do a remake well because they'd probably remove what made Morrowind great in the first place but there are as many opinions on the matter as there are people to have them. I just like to mod Morrowind to my own idea of greatness to the limits of my skills.
Re: Morrowind General Discussion
Hmm.
Also, as you said, there have been fantastic graphical overhauls that remake the game quite well. A remake isn't needed.

Morrowind doesn't require impressive specs, you could probably run it on PC with no issue.

Re: Morrowind General Discussion
That's true but the engine is not optimized and as a result you may need a machine that is at least three or four times that which Morrowind requires to get a consistent 60fps everywhere. My machine, which while predating Morrowind has twice of what is required to play it, gets maybe 15-20fps in crowded areas and 40-60fps in indoor areas as well as those that are not crowded at all. I keep it capped at 30fps though because for some reason my machine becomes unresponsive when Morrowind is at 60fps.Linkuya wrote:Morrowind doesn't require impressive specs, you could probably run it on PC with no issue.
I say the Morrowind engine is not optimized because it tends to be very CPU-intensive while by today's standards requiring next-to-nothing from the RAM or GPU. True, better everything helps but from what I've seen you need a lot more than just 800Mhz to run Morrowind at a consistent 60fps. Then again most people have PCs with at least 2.5-3.5Ghz in their CPUs these days so it's not as big of a problem as when Morrowind was first released back in 2002. It's still a problem if you've got an ancient computer like mine that would be better put to use as a toaster than a gaming machine though.

Re: Morrowind General Discussion
The first PC I played Morrowind on was an old E-machine.
Morrowind ran good when only a few mods were installed.
I'd stop adding mods when fps dropped below 12-15fps and save what weren't installed for another play through.
Well one day I was messing around and installed the Merged Morrowind Mod Megapack to see what it looked like and could my PC run it.
Frame rate dropped to what looked like 10fpm.
It was terrible.

Re: Morrowind General Discussion
I don't add mods into Morrowind outside of the Morrowind Code Patch, the Morrowind Patch Project, and a No-CD patch. I use a No-CD patch because SecuROM damaged both my DVD drive and my DVD burner and as a result said drives need me to jam an unbent paperclip into them in order to open up sometimes.
I bought the Game of the Year Edition back in 2005 or 2006 I think it was but I don't trust my DVD drive or DVD burner to work most of the time, especially when my DVD burner doesn't even burn discs anymore thanks to The Temple of Elemental Evil, The Movies, and Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines and their respective editions of SecuROM. The No-CD patch is necessary because of how if I don't use it there's a chance I may never get my Morrowind disc out of the drive again.
Either way since the Morrowind Code Patch, the Morrowind Patch Project and the No-CD patch are all I use outside of some INI tweaks and various optimization tweaks with both my video card and my operating system I get the framerates I mentioned in my previous post. It probably helps though that my machine exceeds the system requirements, by about 200%-300%, which isn't bad for an old Compaq Presario from 2001 that I got for free back in 2008.

Re: Morrowind General Discussion
Since here there are no separate threads like 'Post funny glitches' or 'Moments you have to share', like in the Skyrim and Oblivion subforums, I will use this thread to share an incident in-game that I found amusing.
Since I am still heartbroken over the absence of my beloved fast-travel in Morrowind, my character Ignis mercilessly abuses Almsivi Intervention to get to points located next to temples, which she could have easily reached on foot. Well, recently her habit played a cruel trick for her: too lazy to walk to the Suran temple, she cast Almsivi Intervention, but for some obscure reason, found herself in Vivec...

Thank you for the appreciation, guys!
The NetherSpa
Yet another short comic featuring Ignis the Hapless, a clueless Nord that fumbles about the strange and dangerous Dunmer province...
This was inspired by me discovering a pool inside an ancestral tomb... My immediate thought was of the Ancestor spirits relaxing by the water.

I'm going to play Morrowind for the first time soon. Really looking forward to it.
Re: Morrowind General Discussion
This question involves saved games. Should you not remove earliest games in order to de-clutter the saved games file? And do so henceforth? I started a new game while in the midst of a game so I have a lot of saved games.

Re: Morrowind General Discussion
I'm not sure why you would need to 'de-clutter' the saved games file. You can name the save files in the list, so you can just use something like the character's name as a prefix so that you can tell which save is for which character. No need to lose the progress on your existing character.

Is there a way to remove fog, or at least make the view distance huge, by editing the settings file?

Re: Morrowind General Discussion - Ashalmimilkala Shrine
General questions to those who have done this quest, probably several times over. It involves the shrine ' Ashalmimilkala', where you are supposed to kill off Maryaran and Carecalmo to obtain 'The scroll of Fiercely Roasting'. This is a large shrine with a lot of characters, some whom appear friendly. There isn't a lot of info on this shrine.
Regarding all the characters -did you kill them all off or spare them?
Second question: There are a LOT of doors - anyway to point out where these miscreants are located?
Third question or rather a note: I've come across 2 slaves which I freed. However there is no info on this shrine on the U-E-S-P website, Morrowind 'Slaves', that I could find. I would like to know how many slaves there are inside this Shrine, if possible.
Thanks so much! Any info is appreciated!
