History:

Early Years:The Votans hail from a star system called Votanis, they are a collection of Six species that each evolved in this single solar system. Their star system was going to be destroyed and each of the races sent representatives of their race to earth which they had originally thought it was uninhabited at the time. When the humans discovered the Votans they were met with hostility and suspicion which would stay with them for decades.
A limited number of Votans were allowed to settle in a colony in Brazil, and eventually two other colonies but the vast majority of them were kept on their ships in Hyper sleep while the residents negotiated for full citizenship rights that would allow their people to settle on earth.
In the next ten years the tensions continued to rise. The Humans and the Votans were on the verge of creating a peaceful settlement when a disgruntled human assassinated a Votan ambassador on live television. This was the final spark towards the massive conflict between humans and Votans known as the Pale Wars.
The Pale Wars: The Wars ravaged the planet for seven years, eventually ending in 2030 when the cataclysmic event known as the “Ark Fall” occurred. The entire Ark Fleet that was in orbit exploded, killing all of the Votan that were still in Hyper Sleep, this killed millions of humans and votan but it was only the beginning. When the Arks fell to earth they released their terraforming technology which not only planted alien organisms on earth but also mutated earth’s living organisms.
While the Votans had not intended for this to happen, having made the technology only to make a planet that supposedly was uninhabited more suitable to their needs, it created chaos, killing millions. Mountains sprang up, entire ecosystems vanished and mutated creatures roamed the lands stalking humans and votans alike as prey.
Current Times: The Pale wars are over and several communities of human and votan settlements exist, but these are like an oasis in a desert because outside of these settlements there are dusty badlands where mutants and the Volge prey on the unfortunate souls with no home.

Wow that looked a lot longer when I typed it, as far as history goes there isnt much. Luckily it really doesnt matter.

RACES: PLAYABLE:
Humans: A race of primates native to earth. Generally this race is hostile to anyone whose views do not match up with theirs exactly, which makes them hated by Votans and especially other humans. They often splinter into groups called “tribes, towns, countries, and peoples” they are the original inhabitants of earth and as such often feel more entitled to live here than the Votans. Despite their brutish exteriors and actions this race has an unparalleled ability to change, they are adaptable and fairly intelligent which in combination with their brutish attitudes make them deadly when in groups. They are able to easily cast aside opinions when it suits them. When push comes to shove, no one is able to get the job done faster than a group of humans. It might not be pretty but it will get done. They come in a variety of colors ranging from pale white to nearly black, they exist in a brown scale of skin tones and have hair that is either brown, blond, black, red or some combination of the aforementioned. They usually have brown eyes but can have green, blue, black, hazel or any combination of the ones already mentioned.
Votan: The Votans are not a single race but rather a collection of alien species that made their home in the Voltanis star system until it was destroyed Five thousand years ago. There are technically six Votan races but only five are actually counted, the Castithan, Irathients, Indogene, Liberata and Sensoth. The Castithan and Indogene are from the same planet, and the Irathients, Liberata and Sensoth are also from the same planet.
The three most politically powerful races were the Castithans, Irathients and Indogene, and as a result they made up the largest percentage of the refugees that came to earth in search of a new homeland. The other races are much rarer. They have all found a way to survive on earth however and can normally live in harmony, except in rare cases.
Castithans: The Castithans are the race that is most similar to humans physiologically; they are of human height and have similar features from humans except for their pigmentation. They have skin and hair as white as alabaster and eyes that are either golden yellow or bright pink. They are described as fair and beautiful to look at.
As a culture, Castithans are aristocratic, monotheistic, patriarchal and hierarchal; this makes them be viewed by the other votan races as arrogant. Their society is divided into castes or Liros. There are Five official castes, the nobles being on top, the untouchables make up an unofficial sixth caste. Also there is a seventh Liro that has sprung up referring to Castithans born on earth but it is unofficial.
Castithans while strict in many respects are fairly free minded when it comes to sex, often pairing between the same gender and with many partners. All Castithan males will generally take a wife however, love and physical attraction mean very little in this because the goal of marriage in this particular case is solely to produce offspring.
Castithans generally view other races as inferior, likening them to below even their casteless. This rigid societal structure has led them into conflict with the free spirited and some would say chaotic Irathients that believe that all living things have their own paths to travel.
There is an age barrier between the older castithans and their youth. The young Castithans are far more liberal and accepting than their parents. They see the old traditions of their people as cruel and unfair and while they would never speak up against the word of their parents they certainly do not support their actions.
Castithans like humans and most of the Votan races age at a normal human rate and die at the respective ages.
Irathients: The Irathients are another race that is fairly similar to humans in appearance. Their skin color is a salmon-orange color and there are white markings on their bodies that are generally different for each Irathient. Their eyes are bright orange and their hair is usually bright colored. They are the most common of all the Votan races.
The Irathients are a race with an affinity for nature and tribal warfare. They are free spirits, preferring simple pleasures to the “civilized” life of most of the Votan. They are usually described by non-Irathients as feral marauders that spread disease and steal women and children. They are usually described as a fairly peaceful people by those that know them, until provoked. Their religion is polytheistic and is a very personal thing, not all Irathients believe in the same gods and many believe in hundreds of them. They look down on all those who abuse nature, particularly humans and as a result have shaky relations with Castithans and Humans. Due to their religious beliefs they refused to vaccinate their children and as a result have gained a reputation for spreading diseases and chaos wherever they go.
The Irathients tend to get along well with the Sensoth and Liberata, because they evolved on the same planet, and peacefully co-existed on it for many generations. The Irathients can't stand the Castithans, whom they see as arrogant, as their rigidly hierarchical and ordered society and culture is the opposite of the chaotic, independent-minded society and culture of the Irathients.*
On VERY rare occasions (I stress VERY rare) Irathients are born with psychic gifts, generally to see into the past and also to see things that they were not physically present for. They are said to have “the sight” and to be blessed by Izru.
(pictures if my descriptive skills are lacking)
The Irathients are very direct in what they are doing, they do not usually apologize and their ways are very foreign to humans and most of the votan.
Indogene:* The most technologically advanced Votan race. They have bright white skin and no visible hair follicles. Their heads are hairless and smooth; their external ears don't really protrude, smoothly merging with the rest of the head. They have hexagonal shaped irises, and their skin is covered in faint hexagon-shaped scales; even their written language is based on hexagon shapes. As the most scientifically advanced Votan race, they have been upgraded with numerous genetic and cybernetic implants (which are often not externally visible). Culturally, they tend to be technical geniuses, scientists, and doctors.
Indogenes are typically atheists. They cremate their dead, and store the ashes in hexagon-shaped boxes.
Due to their technical expertise, most Indogenes remained on the Ark fleet in orbit when the Votans first arrived at Earth. Thus the Indogenes' numbers were devastated when the Ark fleet was destroyed at the end of the Pale Wars. After the wars, the surviving Indogenes have one of the smallest populations of all Votan races, usually concentrated in cities and towns. Highly analytic and adaptable, the Indogenes tend to get along well with all other Votan races. The Castithans, however, are something of an exception, as both races evolved on the same planet and each feels they are superior. However, Indogene-Castithan tensions are more along the lines of petty bickering than a deep-seated blood feud.
*Liberata:
The Liberata are shorter than humans, broad shouldered and thick-necked, with blockier facial features and long scruffy green-yellow hair. They are described as a servant-class race. Their language includes a high frequency of slang terms. The Liberata were once economically very powerful in the Votan star system, but their own avarice led to the ecological and social collapse of their society. Present-day Liberata humbly consider their present-day status as menial laborers and servants as deserved atonement resulting from the mistakes of their ancestors. They are well known for their gruff tempers and are sometimes considered petty. However, their frequently sarcastic demeanors have a deeper and more tragic origin, stemming from cultural disillusionment after their society self-imploded due to their own ancestors' short-sightedness.
The Liberata have a polytheistic religion focusing on the basic needs of life. However, their social collapse while in the Votanis system, combined with their relatively low numbers in the evacuation fleet, resulted in very few of their religious traditions surviving on Earth. Instead, the Liberata ended up borrowing many religious traditions from their planet-mates, the Sensoth and Irathients.
The Liberata are the servants of choice for the hierarchical Castithans, who find that the Liberata's labor-class work ethic and resignation to being servants in society fits well with the Castithan's own attitude that they are a superior ruling class. Because they were not politically powerful when the evacuation fleet was being organized, many of the Liberata who were let onto the Arks did so in exchange for contracts of indentured servitude with the Castithans. The Liberata get along well with the Irathients and Sensoth, because they evolved on the same planet where they peacefully co-existed. The independent-minded Irathients are often frustrated with the Liberata, however, because they feel the Liberata should stand up for themselves more and not be content to let others, such as the Castithans, order them around.
Sensoth*:
Slightly larger and taller than humans, they basically resemble a more humanoid orangatan. Their bodies are covered in reddish-brown fur, except on their faces, which have grayish skin. Their jaws protrude further forward than on humans, like apes (actors playing Sensoths characters have remote-controlled prosthetic appliances attached to their heads to achieve this effect). The Sensoths have a lifespan about twice as long as any other Votan race, often living as long as two centuries. This has made them a very patient people, preferring long-term plans over abrupt action. They come from a region on the planet Irath known as the Great Tarnalin Forest. They thus share several aspects with Earth's sloths, being arboreal in nature, speaking and acting very slowly and deliberately. Like the Liberata and Gulanee, they were not one of the more powerful Votan races, though for many generations they co-existed relatively peacefully with their planet-mates, the Irathients and Liberata. However, due to the value of the Sensoths' great strength, Castithan raiding parties frequently captured Sensoths and brought them back to their own planet to be servants and soldiers. Sensoths can be fiercely loyal to their Castithan "employers", almost to the point of gullibility. They enjoy the company of Earth domestic animals, one Sensoth owning a dog as his companion.
Biomen: (I was hesitant to allow these, and I'm actually giving them on a first come first serve basis, I will only allow two so if you want one tell me now and do not get upset if you cannot get one) In addition to the alien races, another race present in the series are the Biomen (or Bio-Marines). During the Pale Wars, in an effort to match the Votans' superior technology, Earth's militaries successfully developed fully synthetic, sentient life-forms which could be mass-produced as shock troops in the war. Designed to be stronger and tougher than humans, the Bio-Marines were treated as expendable, because they were considered to possess no human rights. Biomen are larger and better muscled than normal humans, with bulging overdeveloped neck muscles. They come in a variety of skin colors, both natural and unnatural (e.g., blue) and have vividly colored eyes. Biomen can be individually identified by the three inch tall serial numbers which have been branded across the width of their chests, with each production run of Biomen was given its own "batch name", e.g., "Pierce" or "Ulysses-537634". Biomen have an off button somewhere on their bodies, with the location dependent on their batch. If hit with enough force in the off switch, a Bioman will be knocked out cold; several thousand volts of electricity will wake them up. Biomen were designed to be naturally aggressive for the wars, and now that the wars are over they have been rendered obsolete. The Biomen have difficulty integrating into peacetime and are ostracized by baseline humans and Votans alike.
NON PLAYABLE RACES:
*Gulanee:
An energy-based race, they are a mystery to everyone else, including the other Votans. The other Votans weren't even aware of their existence until fairly recently, when the Indogenes sent out an expedition to the gas giant planet Gula to look for the mineral gulanite to power the Ark fleet. They established contact with the Gulanee, who agreed to help mine gulanite in exchange for a small fraction of Gulanee being allowed into the evacuation fleet. Most of the Gulanee stayed behind on their homeworld, confident that they would somehow survive. Like the Sensoth and Liberata, they were not politically strong when the exodus from the Votanis system was being planned, and very few were present in the evacuation fleet. The Gulanee are exceedingly rare on Earth, to the point that the Votanis Collective is officially considered to be made up of five races, excluding the Gulanee (who would have been the sixth). Instead, the handful of Gulanee on Earth are spread out amongst the other Votan groups.
Gulanee are so rare that others often assume that they are simply floating balls of energy. Instead, they wear carefully crafted "encapsulation suits" which are difficult to build and maintain. Gulanee will die if they spend more than a few hours outside of their suits
*Volge:
Disliked by all of the other Votan races, and the closest thing to a straightforward "villain" race. They stand over eight feet tall, are covered in dense armor, and possess integrated internal weapons. They come from a different planet in the Votanis system, Omec, and during the evacuation were intended to be left behind by the other races. No one knows who smuggled the Volge onto the Arks, or why, and their reappearance during the Pale Wars was a surprise to the other Votans. After the Pale Wars ended they retreated to underground caverns, and continue to be hostile to humans and other Votans alike

Haha are you kidding? No one uses these things and even if you do, im not making one because I don’t use maps when other people make them unless they force me to.
Setting:
Hidden:
Theoretically you could go anywhere on earth, I don’t know how you plan on getting there because there are no flying vehicles currently that will be available and the overland travel is too dangerous to get to many places. You can leave Defiance, hell you can leave the entire area but be prepared to meet a horrible death or have my ability to create new things suddenly go away because I don’t know too much about the world outside of the general area of Defiance, take my advice and stick to the town and the outskirts, you’ll live longer.
The Town this RP takes place in is called Defiance, or as it was formerly known, St. Louis. It can only be (easily) entered through Bissel pass by entering through the large stasis net. This is the only way land vehicles and travelers may easily enter. The stasis net is currently down right now and the town is currently recovering from a Volge attack.
This is where your character comes in, you can either be a refugee entering the town in search of a fresh start, or you can be a long time resident..

Keep in mind, you cannot be a long term Irathient resident due to the incident several years ago with the vaccination issue. Other than that, specifics matter little to me. Just make your characters sound believable, if your character is going to act rashly and make a scene, that’s fine, but be prepared to suffer the consequences of either your race or the town itself. I am not going to track your money; honestly I am not that worried about it. All the choices you have in making your character do have consequences, if you make a rich character then people will resent you, if you make a beggar, you will be seen as trash. Which brings us to character sheets

Government and Laws:
Hidden:
The town follows the laws of each individual race, in fact there is only one universal law, all wishing to visit or stay in Defiance must give up their weapons when they enter. Residents and long-term visitors can earn their trust and by extension their weapons after a set period.
The town is run by the mayor, Amanda Rosewater and the city council. There are only two members of the council that need to be mentioned specifically. Datak Tarr, the leader of the city’s Castithan population and Rafe McCawely, the richest man in town and owner of the McCawely mines. The two have a bitter hatred for one another and both want control of the town. Siding with one over the other will most likely result in hostility from the other, remember that.

Hidden:
Alak Tarr: A male Castithan and the son of Datak and Stahma Tarr. He was born on earth and came to live in the town of Defiance with his mother and father. He is in a relationship with Rafe McCawely’s daughter, Christie McCawely. This has led to many fights with her brothers and father. He is currently engaged to Christie and she lives with him in his home with his family.
Amanda Rosewater: A female human, the mayor of Defiance and sister to Kenya Rosewater. She became the successor to the previous mayor, Nicollette Riordan when she became sick. She is a calm headed leader in public and tries with her every breath to help her people and her sister.
Christie McCawely: Human and Fiancé to Alak and currently living with the Tarrs she is the daughter of Rafe and sister to Quentin and formerly Luke before his death. She is a kind and strong willed girl just like her father raised her to be. She works hard and hasn’t let her wealth go to her head yet.
Datak Tarr: A male Castithan and member of the Shanje Liro. He is the husband of Stahma Tarr and father to Alak Tarr. Datak is one of the cofounders of Defiance and right hand to mayor Rosewater. Also, there are few restrictions after the start on what weapons you have, this just makes it easier for me to track what you have in the beginning. ALL OF THIS is courtesy of the wonderful Baloth-Kul who will be assisting me in the RP, please direct any and all questions on the weapons to him as quite honestly I have no idea what im talking about when it comes to them as I do not own the defiance game….

The BadLands: The Badlands is the general area outside of the city of Defiance (St. Louis). It is prone to Spirit Riders,Saberwolves, Hellbugs, and many other mysterious creatures lurking about.
Edmund Grove: Edmund Grove is one of the largest farms on the fringes of town. They specialize in old Earth produce like corn and potatoes, though they do grow a few Votan delicacies, which fetch a good price at market. Edmund Grove sits atop a wooded hill overlooking the town. It's a popular spot for lovers to rendezvous...a nice, quiet place far from prying eyes.[1]
Needwant: The NeedWant is the local bar/brothel in Defiance. It’s run by a sultry proprietress named Kenya Rosewater. Residents like to go there for a drink, entertainment, a game of Ivali (Castithan poker)… or some especially friendly company provided by the many attractive women and men who work there. Kenya refers to these employees as night porters", a term which she prefers to "prostitutes". The NeedWant is a legal establishment in Defiance. Kenya attempts to maintain a resectable atmosphere and is protective of her employees.
The central feature of the NeedWant is an enormous alien tree known as a digba. It wasn’t just brought in for show – the entire establishment was designed around it!
The Boneyard: The city's garbage depository is a large pit far east of town known as “The Boneyard.” All manner of junk can be found there – old machinery, rollers, farm & mining equipment. Liberata scavengers can often be found pawing through the detritus, looking for salvage to sell in the bazaar. Their presence has become a nuisance.
The Hollows: The Hollows are the wrong side of the tracks – a neighborhood for poor Votans and humans who live on the fringes of society. The alleys are dotted with shady businesses and shadier characters. A Sensoth nicknamed "Fozzi" runs a well-respected roller garage there. The Hollows are controlled by Datak Tarr, a Castithan gangster with ties to the Votanis Collective.
The general store: Owned , regulated and operated by the town’s employees often a different person works the counter every day, it specializes in survival goods, and is one of the few places you can buy weapons legally inside of the town. It has almost anything and everything you can think of.
The Votan Arms: Owned by a lovely Castithan couple, this inn features a variety of rooms ranging from high to low in their price range. They are well respected in the community and are known for their patience and kindness.

There are a lot of Votan words sprinkled throughout the game... a few are Votanis-Earth slang (kinda like Tex-Mex) but most all of the rest of them are expletives.
