The Last of Us

Post by lostlast »

Anyone playing?
Naughty Dog are great at making games that get you involved and interested. I loved the Uncharted Series and now The Last of Us, I hope will be a Series too.

This game is awesome. I love how it makes you take your time, as rushing into fights usually get you killed. It's not exactly Demon's Souls, but I think it's still pretty unforgiving. I guess the big bonus is, if you take a one-hit-kill you only have to start over prior to the current fight. It makes the fights fun, and so much has to be done stealthy.

I started straight out on Hard so I could unlock Survivor mode. I am finding my run through on Survivor a lot more fun, I am clearing entire fight areas using stealth only, and have only just fired my first bullets where

you are caught in a leg trap tied to a fridge as Ellie tries to untie you, where the game forces you to use a gun
Once again the story telling and character development is one of the stand out elements. Just like the banter between Nate, Sully and other various characters in Uncharted, The Last of Us has those great moments too. You go from heart racing moments fighting infected to light hearted jokes and clever one liners, it leaves you shaking your head and having a laugh.

And for once, I am totally happy with the way Joel (the lead) handles each situation. His no BS attitude helps make this game a winner.

I agree with the Game of the Year call.

I had high hopes for this game even before I knew it was in the hands of Naughty Dog.
I think even still, if I had not known who developed the game when I was playing it... it wouldn't have taken long to catch on. They have a style to their games. They really hold your attention, and as I've already said... they do a great job at story telling and character development.

Finished it. That game was brilliant, and ending was the definition of bitter sweet.
The overall story with the beginning and the end might been predictable, but the whole journey there was awesome. Especially what they did with the characters.

I will buy it eventually. I know how good the game is, but I just can't persuade myself to buy games at retail price (I usually wait until they are 15-30 euro). So I'll probably play it in a year or two, haha.

I am on my second run through... I have an annoying tick with games and the PS3 with trophies. I have to platinum every game. In saying that I have failed a few times... but not with out trying. I spend WAY to much time trying to unlock them all.
Although the good part is most games that require several playthroughs are games that I don't mind doing so. I am over halfway through on Survivor mode, and can't wait to finish again and play through on Survivor+ it will be good to have all the upgrades done.
The best part of Survivor difficulty is you don't have your special R2 hearing sense... so no seeing through walls as to where the enemies are. Makes it a whole other challenge.
