Least favourite city/town.
We all know there are towns and cities in Morrowind that people love. My personal favourite is Balmora. But then there's the other end of the spectrum. Those towns and cities that you just hate. Which town or city is your least favourite?
For me it's probably Vivec. I almost always get lost in Vivec and it takes ages to get anywhere even with gondolas. Also the city is named after Vivec.

So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?

Vivec. I have nothing against big cities, but Vivec is not only very big, but also boring. I wouldn't mind having to run around for hours if there was something interesting to see there, and not just (nearly) identical cantons with miles of identical ramps and almost no people to speak to.

Either Vivec or Gnisis. I don't like the atmosphere.

Re: Least favourite city/town.
Gosh, I'm not sure... I can see the arguments for saying Vivec, and I would add to its list of "features" the lack of traders with a decent amount of money: I think the person with the highest has 600 or something - crazy for such a big city. I would also add the fact that Almsivi Intervention takes you to the Temple Canton, when all the other methods of fast travel are on the other side of Vivec, in/near the Foreign Quarter. However, I really like a lot of the quests in Vivec, so I couldn't justify voting for it. I'm tempted to say Molag Mar. It's visually unappealing, few of the characters are either useful or interesting, and there aren't many quests. Despite this, casting Almsivi Intervention from a very large portion of the map will take you there. Of all the places that I don't want to be visiting often, I find myself at Molag Mar the most.
Gnisis is another contender for me. Like Molag Mar, it's visually pretty boring and has a lack of decent traders. But it does have the Ash Mask, an interesting egg mine, a few moderately interesting Imperial Legion quests, and Baladas Demnevanni, which save it from being completely boring. What I hate so much about Gnisis is that it's the only place in Morrowind that both Divine Intervention and Almsivi Intervention will take you. Anywhere else you can try one spell, and if you don't like where you end up, cast the other to find yourself somewhere else. In Gnisis, once you're there, neither spell will get you out. To make matters worse, it only has ONE mode of fast travel: a Silt Strider. If it also had a boat or a Mages Guild, I wouldn't complain, but no, there's three ways in, but only one way out.

My vote goes to vivic. Its so boring and so big. I always find my self getting lost threre and it takes for ever to find your way back once you are lost.
I remember I had a hell of a hard time finding the fighters guild and the mages guild.

Vivec for me as well. While I personally think the city is very pretty, it's practically the sole compliment I can give it. I tend to give up on characters a short while after I need to visit Vivec for anything, it annoys me so much.

Re: Least favourite city/town.
My lest favorite is Tel... Somethin or other. Cant remember which one exactly, but its the one where Master Neloth? lives. The one where its got an imperial style castle, with the big mushroom growing out of it. Hate that place. There's one quest, where you deliver a potion to some guy, and it always takes me forver to find the guy. Can never find the right door to enter. Plus, visually, the city just looks dumb.
Vivec and Suran are both runners up though. Never liked either of those places.

Tel Vos? Where Aryon lives? All I remember of that place is the giant growing fungi and the Journal pieces left behind by Beram or whoever it was.

Re: Least favourite city/town.
Aryon is among the coolest - perhaps THE coolest - characters in the game. Any city/town containing him is disqualified from being the worst. But apart from that, his tower just looks so bizarre! I don't think it looks good either, but I like what it stands for and I admire Aryon for being bold (crazy?) enough to try to build it. It's a feature that, like it or not, adds interest. Morrowind would be lesser without it. I agree that it's impossible to navigate - it's an absolute mess - but when you're as obsessed with Mark/Recall as I am, finding a quest-giver is rarely an issue haha.
Just reflecting on all the Vivec-hate going on here. I agree with a lot of the points people are mentioning, but thinking about the interest that Tel Vos adds, despite its flaws, I can't help thinking that it kinda applies to Vivec too. There's nothing like Vivec in any other game that I've played. It's size and emptiness give it a kind of eerie quality that I really like. It was so intimidating the first time I went there, on Caius' informants mission. I've already mentioned that a lot of the Vivec quests themselves, I thought, were excellent. It's just such a strange place. Being there definitely has its downsides, but I certainly like its presence. I guess when I think of the worst town/city, I'm asking myself a slightly different question: I'm not asking what city I don't like being in, I'm asking which city contributes least to Morrowind's greatness.

Re: Least favourite city/town.
I love every single city/town/village in Morrowind, and in fact, I think Vivec is a GREAT city. But because I have to pick a "least favorite", I'll pick Vivec just because of how annoying it is getting around in there..
My favorite city is Dagon Fel. Love going there. One of my characters lived in Sorkvild's tower.

Re: Least favourite city/town.
I actually have to say that I quite like Vivec, what with it representing what I see to be a stroke of insanely good game design, with each of its cantons allowing for the city to be partitioned seamlessly off into smaller, loadable cells, in a way that was well-explained and appropriate within the context of Morrowind's lore.
None of the settlements really stand out as a least favourite though, although some of the smaller ones like Gnaar Mok, Ald Velothi and Hla Oad stand out as not really every having stood out to me - and rare travel destinations inandof themsevles.

Re: Least favourite city/town.
I like Balmora, Pelegeald (probably misspelled), Ginis and a few others.
Vivec is a pain because of how big it is, but I don't really dislike it.

Re: Least favourite city/town.
I love, love Vivec. It's my number one favourite place, right beside Ald'ruhn. That doesn't mean I did not get completely lost the first few times (alright, for a long time) I went there. I remember making a vow never to return, once I was finished with the informants, but then I did of course
Least favourite would be Sadrith Mora. It just... doesn't look like anything. The smaller Telvanni settlements at least look like they belong together, into one whole town/village/building/whatever, but Sadrith Mora is just... the "buildings" are too far apart, there's one big mushroom tree, but it doesn't look good with the way the smaller ones are thrown all over the place, it looks too small, and the whole thing is much more confusing than Vivec ever could be. And there's even less things to do. Oh, and with Sacred East installed now, I will like it even less, I can just see. Used to get out of there by using Almsivi Intervention, but now that takes me to the mainland instead of Molag Mar, and it's just... no.

Vivec is my least favourite. Large cities are great, but with the slower movement speed of Morrowind, and the fairly boring visual style which is repeated constantly it just becomes a chore.

Personally I love Vivec when you use Redesigned Vivec v1.1, and Vivec Expansion 2.0 together through the use of the patch Redesigned Vivec & Vivec Expansion Merged v1.0. I would have go with Wolverine Hall due to how confusing it can be to navigate.

yeah, Vivec for me too. It is so large and has so little in it considering its size, and is so awkward to get around

Despite my love for The Temple, I'd probably go with Molag Mar. It was the last city I visited and I found it to be a bit of anti-climax really.

Re: Least favourite city/town.
How does the mod effect performance in Vivec? I would assume it wouldn't be a problem for modern machines, although might also guess that Morrowind's engine isn't incredibly well optimised for something like that.Spirithawke wrote:Personally I love Vivec when you use Redesigned Vivec v1.1, and Vivec Expansion 2.0 together through the use of the patch Redesigned Vivec & Vivec Expansion Merged v1.0. Re: Least favourite city/town.
I have to agree with Spirithawke about Redesigned Vivec. It makes the whole city so much nicer.
Least favorite: Suran, hands down. I can play a whole game and not ever go there at all as there is absolutely nothing to offer unless you play Hlaalu quests and even then, it's only what? 1-2 quests? The Jewel of the Ascadian Isles is more like a diamond in the rough.
The only good thing about that place is the orc armorer there - he has lots of interesting dialogue about weapon types, types of armor, etc. He's the only one ever worth seeing.
Favorite: Ald-ruhn - tons of services, interesting architecture and a quest hub for multiple factions.
