Re: Skyrim mysteries
Maybe? It probably doesn't matter. Elder scrolls tend to just do whatever they want.
Another example: Dexion mentions that the scrolls in the Imperial Library up and vanished in 4E 175. All of 'em.

Re: Skyrim mysteries
The Dwemer took it for study at some point. I imagine the scroll, after getting rid of Alduin, was one of sold/given away/got nicked/wandered off of it's own accord.
Stalhrim (L before H) is a form of enchanted ice, as hard as iron and as cold as death, in the words of the Skaal smith. Used by the ancient nords for sealing tombs and coffins, and for various tools and decorations.
The book was Amongst the Draugr, written by a mage from Winterhold. As seen in Skyrim: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Amongst_the_Draugr

Re: Skyrim mysteries
Of note: It's entirely possible the scroll was in two (or more) places at once. Maybe the Dwemer had it before, during, and after the Dragon War, and the Tongues just also had it.

Re: Skyrim mysteries
They had anything from 700 to 1000 years to get hold of the Scroll from the Nords before their disappearance. No need for two places at once...

Re: Skyrim mysteries
Entirely true! I'm just pointing out that the assumption is being made that there even is a coherent backstory to be told about how it got there, and that's not necessarily a sound assumption!
The question is of the sort that the monks would chuckle over, basically, and for good reason.

True. The Scrolls are by their very nature not inclined to doing normal things...

I hated the fact that the elderscrolls are used as major plot maguffins in skyrim, I kinda liked the fact that the elder scrolls play a very minor role in the other TES games, its wonderfully ironic. I guess the creators of skyrim didn't get it.... must have been an all american team.

Of course it's an American team. It was made by an American company, in America.Raynil dralas wrote:I hated the fact that the elderscrolls are used as major plot maguffins in skyrim, I kinda liked the fact that the elder scrolls play a very minor role in the other TES games, its wonderfully ironic. And they made all the other Elder Scrolls game, too.
Idiot.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they go by the name "Bethesda" after the city in Maryland they were formerly based in?

Not sure if they named themselves after the city of Bethesda, but they are an American company.Yaije wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but they go by the name "Bethesda" after the city in Maryland they were formerly based in?
Now that we have their nationality cleared up, let's go back to the topic.

Re: Skyrim mysteries
Why is there no restrooms or bathrooms whatsoever? Do people take a poop and leak anywhere they please? Who cleans it? Lol
Re: Skyrim mysteries
That's what the buckets are for.

There's always a 'pot', bucket, or basket somewhere in a residence. You're home doesn't get one because you go into other people's places for that business.

Re: Skyrim mysteries
Yeah, there actually are lots of bathrooms. Just not much in the way of plumbing, so it's easy to miss what that bucket's there for. My favorites are the ones with books right next to them, in bandit fortresses and such. It just makes me laugh every time I see it.

Re: Skyrim mysteries
There are "toilets" in most bandit caves/forts, usually there's also a book there, and sometimes a healing potion as well.

I've never actually found any kind of bathroom in the rich folks houses, only in bandit hideouts.

Re: Skyrim mysteries
Having a separate bathroom in a private residence would be kind of weird when they just use pots and buckets.
It's called a chamberpot for a reason, you know? You keep it in your chambers.
But in a fortress or something that's built with multiple bunks in a single room, then it makes sense to have a separate room for the buckets/pots.

Re: Skyrim mysteries
I've seen nicer bedrooms that had a standing wash basin and a water pitcher. This is Viarmo's room, for example.

What exactly is up with Falion? Even after you catch him at his magic circle thingy, it's never explained to my satisfaction - obviously he presumably goes out there to do some Conjuration (and to cure vampires if they request it), but the whole thing with his adopted daughter makes me feel like there's supposed to be much more to the character - after all, he apparently cares about her so much that she's the primary reason he didn't become a vampire.

Re: Skyrim mysteries
Why did the Elder Scrolls leave the White Gold tower? Was it because of the Empire's divine mandate being over?
Why is the Last Dragonborn the Last Dragonborn? Why was Miraak the first? Who blessed Miraak? How was Miraak's character before he became corrupted? Why is his voice so cool?
What is the Eye of Magnus? Why did Winterhold collapse? Who do the Forsworn worship as the Old Gods?

Re: The Scrolls: The divines have no more power over the scrolls than mortals do. They're primordial shards of creation, all at once outside the universe and everywhere within it and in one or more particular places. Which is a fancy way of saying they just do whatever they want, reasons be damned. This is a mystery far beyond that particular instance, a fundamental mystery of the setting.

Yes I know, but perhaps because of the mythic Dragonborn ruling the throne the scrolls themselves swore fealty. Or maybe not, like you said.
Yeah.. but.. why is he the Last? Why are there no more? Prophecy is a terrible answer. Also, what I'm saying is the first Dragonborn being a Nord before the creation of the Empire and the forming of the mannish Time-Dragon is.. weird and I want another explanation besides retroactively.

Re: Skyrim mysteries
If the Dragonborn's purposes were to maintain the Dragonfires and stop Alduin from conquering Tamriel, then both of those have been fulfilled and there's no reason for there to be further Dragonborns.
Also, why assume that a god of time is subject to linear time? "Before" is meaningless to Akatosh.
