It is but i suspect they will still have a hard time selling the X1 due to the DRM backlash and Kinect being a part of the console as not everyone wants Kinect. Espically one that is always on. They need to ditch their unfriendly policies that make it a nightmare for indie developers to publish on XBL(This is an existing problem and needs to fixed) as indie developers could be the deciding factor in someone's decision to buy a PS4 or X1. It is going to be interesting to see how the PS4 and X1 does at launch as i suspect both companies are aiming for the same date.

Wow. Nobody actually reads the information, I guess. They just listen to what Sony hype men say.

Kinect can be turned off.

X1 had an environment that indie developers would make more money on (you know, that stuff that makes their company survive to make more games).

Oh how the worm has turned. Although I'm amazed that people actually believed the Xbone would seriously let you just share out your bought games with 10 other people with no catch.

They believed it because that's what they told everyone. Good job at listening.

And companies always tell the (full) truth (and never twist it or conveniently leaves bits out). Always.

Really, for most people, it's not that big a loss. It may be a step back in your eyes but it's allowing a lot more people to access the Xbox One and at the end of the day it's all about the bottom line to MS.

It can? I geuinly didn't know that. I lacked the means to watch E3 and am just relying on sites to relay the information. Apparently, MS wants indie developers to sign up with a publisher to get published on XBL which may not be viable for the small developer or the developer just doesn't want to give up any of their profits thus it's not really an option, but i read that on Penny Arcade and i don't trust that yet as reliable source. I'm no fanboy and am just giving a balanced view on the two. If MS focuses on the gaming aspect, ditch their habit of buying timed DLC and actually focus on getting or creating exclusive games, it would stand an even chance in my opinion as the X1 could surprise everyone. (I'm unware of what it's specs are but i think it's roughly the same as the PS4's one's). But they should find a way to implent game sharing whilst being user friendly. Such as every time you lend a digital game to a friend, it takes up a slot and to free it up, the friend either deletes it from their account or you remove it. It would be a techincal nightmare and i can't think of anything else at the moment.

For another, they don't have to live in the primary owner's house—I could name a friend that lives 3,000 miles away as one of my "family members" Mehdi said.
@VL:So the DRM was all about the bottom line, and so is getting rid of it. Please to be explaining your logic?

@TLD:The X1 has 15 exclusives lined up for the first year, 8 of them new IPs. I don't know where you're getting your information, but stop it. And that's exactly the policy they had and just did away with.

I listened to this video and Major Nelson said that a game can't be played by multiple people at a time. So it is exactly the same as lending out a game.

Again, i was unable to watch E3 so am forced to rely on various sites. Was unaware of the other exclusives. Well, i think people wouldn't have minded if the gamesharing aspect had a time limit on but within reason or just based on how much the game is used. Such as Skyrim is lent to a mate and has a 24 hour limit but doesn't expire after 24 hours instead, it counts down how many hours you spend on it untill the limit is met.

EDIT:Veck, if that's true then the gamesharing isn't really that much of a good idea. It would be nice to lend people a digital version and still be able to play your copy instead of waiting for them to finish it.

Except without having to find a meeting time and place to give the person your disc, and being able to let 10 people play it when nobody else is. Unless you live with 10 other people this was a big plus.

@TLD: 24 hours is not that often to have to check in. All of you come onto this site at least once a day anyway. That's basically what the DRM did. "Let me check in for a sec..ok, you're good for the day."

True but you are screwed if your net goes down as you would lose all access to your games or if you live in a place that blocks access to XBL(such as uni halls). But I could be wrong about the effects of the DRM before it was canned.

I think this is a good move by Microsoft. It wasn't just a vocal minority. A lot of people, including long time Xbox fans, were dissapointed by the choice of DRM. It says something when internet polls all favour the PS4 and when PS4 pre-orders skyrocket. Microsoft might have been preaching 'the future' (personally I think cloud computing should die as soon as possible), but the world isn't ready for it. Add to that the fact that the Xbox One was clearly focused on the US markets, and you've got angry people.

The only thing seperating Xbox One and Playstation 4 right now is the pricepoint and the exclusives. Personally I'm probably still going for Playstation, since I prefer their exclusives and Sony has done a fantastic job, and will probably be doing a fantastic job for indie games. And also because it's 100 bucks cheaper yeeeep.

My Logic.

Firstly DRM was bad for the bottom line. It was turning potential customers away.

Getting rid of DRM will entice more people to purchase the Xbox that probably would've gone over to the PS4 and It's very likely that you and a lot of the other people who were going to buy the Xbox anyway are going to continue to buy the Xbox and not the PS4. Why? Because the two consoles are pretty much the same thing now except with a different branding and a few different titles. So by getting rid of DMR they're are for the most part only gaining costumers.

Abel probably just explained it better.

Were the things that Xbox1 have now scrapped, ever locked in? Or were they just throwing it out there to feel the market, before making their final decision? Or were these things removed solely because of consumer backlash?
Without jumping to conclusions..... surely if Microsoft thought they had a GOOD thing, even though consumers were having a field day with it, they would have stuck to their guns.
I realise sales and money drive all industries/companies, but GOOD companies, with GOOD ideas, liked or disliked stick it out and prove they're onto something great.
Again, I am only speculating... but for a company like Microsoft to 'back down' makes me think that FINALLY even they realise that their sh!t stinks.

So many people [&@%!] without really knowing why, and now we are basically getting the Xbox 360 v2. The only slight issue I had was the once ever 24 hours concept, but that was in no way a deal breaker, rather a point that could potentially cause problems once in a blue moon. Now some of the more interesting and forward thinking technologies have been done away with and we're left with shinier graphics essentially. Can't say I'm super thrilled about this announcement, but it is what it is. Xbox will be a more accessible now, which is good, but at a cost. Not of money, but of features.

I love how they put it.
" we would like to thank the community for their candid and passionate replies to our new features"
Ok..

The loss of the new features sucks. But the tech is still there. They're probably smoothing things over now and think of ways to implement the same changes for later without creating a million memes in the process.
Part of me thinks they should have held their ground, but I saw in a poll that 78% of people were for the PS4. When your faced with those numbers, as a company what are you going to do?

Probably figured appearing flip floppy was better than becoming a recurring thing to be made fun off.

Thing is, most people went against it for crappy reasons. So even though all the stuff changed, the people with legitimate problems were a little satisfied, the others are still making jokes.

I really wished Microsoft listened more>_> or at least knew who to listen to..
I really do doubt the Xbox One.. even the name draws doubt. Why not Xbox Infinity? It parallels with Window 8 then<_<

Still, I do feel digital is a means of progression, but at the same time restriction and corporate censoring is unjust. Is it just me, or does it seem Microsoft(especially EA) expect us to hand them money by the tons regardless of what they serve<_<
Kind of glad alot of the deserved bashing took place, made them readdress their wrongs.. downside is they may as well lost their spine too.

I'm content with a well improved and progressive change from the 360, but they just seem to be lacking in the entertainment...
Gaming? Sort of>_> but it seems more about money than fun, plus tv apps and such are now it's focus.

Anyways, I'm not sure if I even want this>_> on edge and all... just exclusives haven't grown and personally Halo is down the drain<_< and currently the new Minecraft edition may be ruined unless Mojang can convince them of the faults>_<

In the end... I just have my petty hopes to hold on too...

@General: Too bad that's not an official statement. I can only hope that MS is now taking heed of the people being vocal about wanting what they were selling.
