Which is why this reaction is received. Yes, it is true that the reason someone will not buy something is the reason they will not buy something.

Life is dumb.
Microsoft's decisions are to appeal to certain types of people, and they are possibly hoping to drive more people to get the pre-requisite services to be able to use the Xbox-One. Like Musicman pointed out, already 64% of Xbox users use Xbox Live, meaning they have a good enough connection, and the number of people with a strong connection will only rise as time goes on and we move forward with technology.
You asked why people are mad. They are mad because it does not appeal to them.

Look, I'm not some Sony fan boy. I prefer no console company over another. I also know that Sony has made many, many dumb decisions in the past. They will make thousands more in the future. Do you not think that they waited the decision? They have and decided that it was a bad move. I agree with this. Right now I think actually requiring internet is what is turning the most people away. It's simply not smart. You can give reasons why it doesn't matter, but that does not make it any better of an idea.

The relativist argument is a bad one to take. Bombs are dropping on the Middle East but they're not hitting me so I guess it's cool? Right?

Now I know the matter of Xbox ownership is a lot more trivial but I assume you get my point. Regardless of whether you can get your Xbox One that shouldn't stop you from calling it wrong or at the very least stop defending MS.

And if MS think they can just blow off people that have been buying Xbox (amongst other Microsoft products) since the begining but don't have the right circumstances for this particular 'luxury' and think it's cool well it really says something about them, doesn't it?

The interesting thing? The Xbox 360 saw its biggest sales increase in 2010 and 2011, 5 and 6 years after the launch of the console (yeah, it launched in 2005). And that's pretty much the way any technology works, to be honest. The first year they see marginal sales from early adopters. The next couple of years they work on decreasing the size of the internals to being down production costs. Then they cut the price and see more sales. And on and on until they launch the next console. MS isn't worried about the landscape of 2013, they're looking to 2018 already.

About the time when they will abandon the Xbox One and move on. It doesn't matter what Microsoft is looking to, Musicman. Game developers are looking into right now. They are developing games right now. If Microsoft wants to keep those exclusives, which are really good by the way, then they'll have to at least sell as expected.

And they will. 47 million people are able to buy the new console and meet the requirements.

Kind of true, I know maybe 3 other people ever who also had a 360 or a PS 3.

The Xbox One loses it on the fee for used games and the always online requirement for some games at developer discretion. That, and it doesn't offer anything much over the PS4 in terms of hardware. It'd better have some amazing exclusives or I can see it performing fairly poorly.

I'm probably going to go the same route as you, Dika. When is the PS4 reveal? I heard it was around the 6th, but I'm not sure.

in my early life (which im only about to be 16, so not that long ago) i grew up on the playstations.. but xbox 360 had more exclusive games i likes. so i switch over. when they announced their next gens, i guess i was a bit biased, and i was siding with the Xbox One... but with all the stuff the One CANT offer that PS4 can, im back on Sony's side.. they just better not disappoint me again.

Nintendo's stance on used games:

We won't put any retrictions. we'll just make better games so the consumer won't want to trade them in.

Is used games a big thing in other countries then? When I'm done with a game I just fling it in a shelf and forget about it, as does everyone I know. The second hand boxes in most stores here are just filled with 5 dollar games from 5 years ago. I'm pretty sure renting games is prohibited here. Only place where you can borrow games is the library (lol) and they only have a few obscure games.

Used games is a huge thing in the US, although I don't know why. You buy a game for $60, sell it back for $20, then Gamestop knocks $5 off the New price and re-sells it for $55. Of that resale all the profits go to Gamestop. Not a cent to the developers.

If MS goes the way of Steam and charges less per game because of DRM, you would be able to buy two or three more games with what you've saved. Plus you would be actually supporting the developer whose games you are enjoying instead of lining the pockets of Gamestop Managers.

To be fair it is the only way gamestop make a profit. They get pretty minuscule amount of the cut from selling new games.

In my eyes used games aren't evil, they have a right to exist. Same with renting.

What annoys me is lots of times when they do sell digital copies of games they charge the same amount as physical. Game publishers keep saying games cost too much but they don't lower the cost. EA said games are too expensive but they cost the same amount on Origin as a physical copy. Also DRM can [&@%!] off. More digital distribution services should follow GOGs example.

Personally neither enthuse me enough to be really into the thought of spending money on this upcoming generation. There are plenty of knocks against the Xbox One, but for me those are still only knocks against the Xbox One and not things that make the PS4 more appealing, so I'm sort of stuck in a meh-zone.
I'm gonna stick to being a PC gamer girl as I've been a lot more recently, I guess. :P
