Yup, unless you're really trying to be picky (like matched sets according to the game or no [insert skill]) You can turn any 5-10 damage item into a monstrous 100-1k+ world ender. Though the short list of things that can't be tempered or enchanted (stuff is usually one or the other) would require more work.VirtualWeasel wrote:The thing about this game, I've realized, is that anything can be a good weapon/armor piece if you can tolerate looking at it, and have the skills to improve it to match your leveling.

I was pretty miffed you couldn't keep the skeleton key if you wanted to finish the thieves guild quest line.

The Mace of Molag bal was a little is appointing because my ebony mace was stronger..... Also the armor from Miraak was annoying because you couldn't use be Mage armor perk but the armor itself was weak!

I do regardless<_< you'll be shocked how much it benefits even if you never steal. I treat it no different than smithing, the benefits cannot be ignored and the skill doesn't even need to be of focus<_<

Eh the +50% effectiveness for each rank of lock isn't half bad, neither is having it automatically put you near the success point. Overall though it's not a must have for me, but ranks higher than most of the armor and weapon trees (which I usually only put a few in to reach a single perk if at all).Raynil dralas wrote:People actually perk lockpicking?CBR JGWRR wrote:TBF, a perk in lockpicking has exactly the same effect.

I never perk lock picking and Ive never had any issues opening anything, its the biggest waste of perks I can imagine.
Re: Most disappointing artifact?
Really depends on build. Because you're not handed keys to every locked door and chest you will need to use lock picking for stuff at some point.
Worth more than 2h weapons when you're a 1h specialist definitely.

The lockpicking skill levels up just fine naturally over the course of the game and Its more than enough to tackle most locks just fine without perks. And lets be honest by late game you have loot coming out the wazoo so its not like you miss much by not picking every lock you see.Yaije wrote:Really depends on build. Still doesn't make it worth less than the primary combat skill your character doesn't use. DW for 2h etc.... why take bothRaynil dralas wrote:The lockpicking skill levels up just fine naturally over the course of the game and Its more than enough to tackle most locks just fine without perks. Re: Most disappointing artifact?
what im saying is lockpicking is a waste of perks regardless of you're build, sure I wouldn't waste perks on combat skills im not using but if I did a different build I would. Id never waste perks in lockpicking though, even if i was role playing a lock smith I wouldn't do itYaije wrote:Still doesn't make it worth less than the primary combat skill your character doesn't use. Re: Most disappointing artifact?
Seconding Knight Captain Kerr on page 1, Savior's Hide was a huge disappointment (although it does look cool, and I'm sure it's been modded to make it more viable); my first character never forgave himself for killing that poor chap for nothing but a crappy armour which he replaced just a few levels later.

I never actually got the saviors hide as I heard how sucky it was and non of my characters could bring themselves to kill that guy to get it.

Re: Most disappointing artifact?
I have to agree with the notion that most Daedric artifacts are useless. Ebony sword is one of the worst. Even upgraded, a good two handed sword beats it, and by then you have no allies left to help you, as you'be killed them all to beef up the sword. And Skull of Corruption. Actually, the only Daedric weapon improved over Oblivion is the Wobbajak. Now THAT is a sad commentary on Skyrim. I intended to make a mod to beef up the Daedric stuff but never got around to it yet.

Sure, why not. My altmer is level 122 thanks to the legendary skills feature, she's already perked out all the skills she uses or might use once for a laugh, why not perk lockpicking...Raynil dralas wrote:People actually perk lockpicking?CBR JGWRR wrote:TBF, a perk in lockpicking has exactly the same effect.

I rarely level a character beyond 50 or so because I enjoy, you know, playing the game properly instead of being a cheesy OP god.CBR JGWRR wrote:Sure, why not. Umbra was the biggest disappointment for me. Not being in the game and all.

Re: Most disappointing artifact?
That's because Umbra no longer exists.
One thing I've realised - the weakness of the daedric artefacts is actually a big joke on their part, allowing them to amuse themselves watching a demi-god carry out pointless tasks for little or no award.

I almost wish we could cast them back into the world and maybe see them used against us... or see npc'd fight over them.

Re: Most disappointing artifact?
Here are the Daedric Artifacts I found useful on my last character:
Azura's Star, Masque of Clavicus Vile (I think it's as good as a Daedric helm and it looks really cool with the right armour), Ebony Mail (until I got something better), Oghma Infinium (Although I prefer to just keep it for aesthetic reasons), Ring of Hircine, Mehrunes' Razor, Dawnbreaker, Skeleton Key (But I gave it up pretty quickly), Sanguine's Rose and Wabbajack.
The ones I didn't use were mostly things like blunt weapons, shields, two handed, light armour. Things my character wasn't using anyway. So really I found lots of the artifacts pretty useful.
I said Saviour's Hide was the worst is because even when I played a light armour using character it was outclassed by even basic light armour.
