I know this may be a bit off topic, but yeah he was blinded during the great war. He wandered Cyrodil for some time till a wondering old mage found him just lying on the ground. He gave him some food and taught him how to heal himself. So fast forward like 2 years later and with MUCH practice the old mage was able to teach him a spell that would help him see. Now it's not like normal vision, it's more like how dare devil sees but without the help of rain or sound. (Based off the movie since I never read the comics) But Gaul Ur'Gar can turn it on and off like the Kahjit's Night Eye ability. But yeah he sure will outlive most people.Pilaf The Defiler wrote:That actually wouldn't be a terribly uncommon ability for an Orc. Shamanism and the magical arts are not as frowned upon in Orc society as in Nord or Redguard society. They're probably the most spiritual and magical of the three warrior races. The Wise Woman is usually the tribe's shaman or spiritual leader but a handful of powerful casters in Skyrim are male Orcs, including the leader of a spellsword band and the librarian at the College.
As an added bonus, individuals with magical ability tend to live longer than those without. An Orc who is very good with magic to the point he can use it to see for him would probably outlive his less magically inclined brothers and sisters.

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
I see nothing badly wrong with that. Malacath is not only a warrior deity but a healer [read Lord of Souls. He easily heals the Imperial Prince Attrebus], so he could grant one of his Orcs powers like this. Since the Orcs are outcasts and Malacath loves outcasts, he probably loves the blind and otherwise disabled Orcs even more
Compared to current Nord and Redguard society - if we consider them the three warrior races of Tamriel - I'd say they definitely are more magical. Overall, that is. There's an Archmage from Hammerfell and plenty of priests and wizards. I doubt they love magic overall though.

Yes, but there's an Archmage in Skyrim. Look at how magic is popularly viewed there. It doesn't appear at all frowned upon in Orc society, where the mothers of the actual chiefs are wise women.Hissien wrote:Also for there to be an archmage there must also be mages beneath him...

Some confirmation of things we already suspected. It's been around for a while, but I haven't seen anyone bring it up.
ESO wrote:Elves live two to three times as long as humans and the “beast-races” (Orcs, Khajiiti, Argonians). A 200-year-old Elf is old; a 300-year-old Elf is very, very old indeed. Anyone older than that has prolonged his or her lifespan through powerful magic.

It was mentioned earlier, and really it only lines up with ingame evidence for dunmer who live in the ashlands.OblivionDuruza wrote:Some confirmation of things we already suspected. It's been around for a while, but I haven't seen anyone bring it up.

By comparison, the dunmer on Solsthiem, most of them remember the Red Year and the Argonian invasion, and they largely look between young to middle aged amongst those who talk about it.

To be fair, they only once were Mer, they are no longer. Since the curse that caused the change occurred, if we take it as literal, they ceased to be Mer.Br3admax wrote:Orcs are beast race now too, evidence says otherwise.

I get the impression they're not exactly considered on equal footing to Redguards and Bretons within their alliance and some dev comments make it sound like there will be quests and NPC dialogue as well as books and pamphlets in-game relating to racism against Orcs.CBR JGWRR wrote:TBF, the setting is the 2nd era, they were considered equal to goblins and trolls at the time...

Isn't that stated outright? The orcs fighting as part of the Daggerfall Covenant to earn that consideration and so on.

It was in one of the "ask us anything" things. It's still up on the TESO website. You may have to go down about six months or so through the posts. It's either a general lore one or a Daggerfall Covenant one.CBR JGWRR wrote:Isn't that stated outright? The orcs fighting as part of the Daggerfall Covenant to earn that consideration and so on.

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
What do you guys think about the Snow Elves (aka Falmers)?
I haven't seen anywhere that the Falmers were able to give birth..
So here are my questions:
1. What was the Snow Elves' lifespan?
2. Did the intoxication of the Snow Elves by the fungi that "transformed" them into Falmers affected their lifespan?
3. Have the Falmers lived since the Dwemer dispeared without procreating?
4. Do they procreate at all?
5. What is the Falmer's lifespan now?
Source: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:DwemerThe Snow Elves, meanwhile, had not actually been driven out of Skyrim by Harald, either; many of them sought sanctuary with the Dwemer. Although they agreed to provide them safe haven in their underground realm, the distrustful Dwemer rendered them blind by forcing them to consume toxic fungi once found growing deep underground. The Snow Elves became servants of the Dwemer, and then, after several generations, into their corrupted slaves, the Falmer.

1. It seems comparable or greater to that of an Altmer, though Gelebor is thousands of years old.Exeet wrote:What do you guys think about the Snow Elves (aka Falmers)?

3. They procreate, there are males and females.
5. I would give them sixty years max, fighting everyday can do that to you

2. As far as I know they were Falmers already, from the beginning. It is just the equivalent in the Aldmeri language for the human "Snow Elves".

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
While that is true, in Skyrim "Falmer" usually refers to the twisted monsters that Gelebor calls "the Betrayed," and "Snow Elves" refers to the original untwisted race.Celtyk wrote:2. As to the life span of the Snow Elves, I'd agree that it's probably very similar to that of the Altmer. While Verthur and Gelebor lived for thousands of years, Verthur was a vampire, and Gelebor's longevity can probably be attributed to powerful magic and the blessing of Auri-El, though the game itself doesn't give any definitive explanation.

I thought the word "Falmer" started being used after the snow elves were corrupted and turned into slaves. I know they're essentially the same people but from what I understood, now they're called Falmers and before that they were called snow elves.. xD

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
Fal Mer literally translates to Snow Elf in the language of the Elves. Also the plural name of any elven race is the same as the singular. It's The Falmer, not The Falmers. Not grammatically correct.
And why do people automatically assume Gelebor is ancient? He says there was a population of 100 or so Snow Elves living in the vale for the past three Eras. I made the obvious assumption that this was several generations.

I just read this on Gelebor's page:
Maybe that's why.If you ask how he knew, he will tell you that "For the thousands of years I've served as the Chantry's sentinel, there hasn't been a single visitor here for any other reason. They request Auriel's Bow, and I request their assistance. It's been repeated so many times, I can't imagine it any other way."

Hello, folks.
Concerning the Altmer, I am not sure if the book De Rerum Dirennis have been mentioned. The writer, Vorian Direnni, member of the Direnni clan, starts the book with saying:

Since his field journal is written in 4E 58, probably not long after he entered Blackreach, and with no updates, I find it likely that he must have died not long after.
