How long does a Redguard normally live for?

Post by bloodsteve353 »

How long will a redguard live for if not killed or affected by any means. I read somewhere that an old Redguard leader died after 120 years of rule if so does it say anywhere how long a Redguard will live for uneffected?

I couldn't find anything on the UESP or in the Imperial Library that says how long they normally live. However I did find how long two redguards lived. One was Randic Torn, who died after ruling for 120 years. The other is Frandar Hunding. He was born in 1E 720, had a son at age 40, and at 60 became a hermit and wrote the Book of Circles. He was then called upon and given control of the Singers, and tought them how to fight, and led them into battle. After the battle was won, he and the other singers left Yokuda, and looking for a new home. In 1E 808 they arrived in Hammerfell. Soon after they arraived Hunding was cowardly killed. This puts him around 88 years old, however, if he was able to lead an army into battle outnumbered 30 to 1 at sixty to seventy years old, we can assume that he would probably have lived into his late 90's or early hundreds. So, I would say that redguards generally live a little longer than Imperials (given that the Imperial lifespan is the same as the human lifespan) probably into their early hundreds.

Problem is with the ease of magicka interventions it's tough to say how long a "natural" lifespan is supposed to be.

Well since neither Africa or America exist in the Elder Scrolls world, that name wouldn't make sense.

In Oblivion, I guess you'd have to call them "Hammerfellian Cyrodilians."

Thing is, Redguards aren't easily associated with real life Africans. If anything, their lore seems to point them closer to the Japanese Samurai culture rather than the Africans in general.

In fact, the only three races that can be clearly associated with a group in real life are the following:
Imperials -> Romans
Bretons -> Uh... Real-life Bretons, of Brittany (not sure about this) in France. Of course, they're not part elves. Interesting tidbit: Off the coast of Louisiana, there is an island called 'Breton Island.' I noticed that on my US History teacher's map a while ago, and was like 'WTF'.
Nords -> Uh... Real-life Nords? There are a few people on the official forum that claim that people who live in north-eastern Europe are often known as Nords (I've seen at least five people on the forum who even claim to be real-life Nords).

Everything else is way up in the air.

About nords, it is true the people of northern europe (specifically norway, finland, and sweden) are often known as "Nordic". I myself am descended from Norwegians who are Nordic. However Nord is not a word used to refer to specific people of the nordic countries as far as I know.

Bretagne is a region of France, 'Brittany' is what English speakers would call it. 'Breton' is the the name of the language they speak in Brittany, it's a dialect of French and is rare because it's an old regional language and therefore dying out.

'Nordic' is an English word which describes people and things from Scandinavia and Denmark (North Eastern Europe).

Apart from that, most of the place names and races would be specific to the Elder Scrolls world, or adapted from the 'classic' fantasy genre (ie based on a Tolkein-like world). Although orcs seem to be a bit like klingons.

I think that Redguards, to get back to the subject, would probably live shorter lives than people from other human cultures, simply because if they are 'genetically' the best fighters, there must be a higher risk of injuries whilst growing up. Being used to dealing with injuries might toughen you up for your active life, but when old age arrives all the knocks and bruises come home to roost.
So I would suggest that Redguards stay active and fit into their 60+ years, but as soon as they slow down, then they get 'old' and pass away relatively quickly.
The Imperials, if based upon Roman culture, might lead quieter, less active lives which means they're not as good in action, but the sedate pace of their culture might allow them to gradually age and live longer.
The Roman diet of fresh vegetables and fish might also help their longevity. Redguards would have to eat more red meat to keep up their body mass and as we all know too much red meat in your diet will increase the chances of stomach cancers etc later in life.
