Faendal...
Why do I always find him dead on new games?
It's a brand new game, I haven't activated the vampires yet, or anything, and yet still he's dead.
Right in the center of Riverwood, just... dead. WHY?!
Oh well, time to start over. :/

Re: Faendal...
Firstly, this upsets me greatly, secondly, when you say new game, are you literally just leaving Helgen and arriving at Riverwood, or just haven't been to Riverwood yet, after having played since leaving Helgen
I ask, because to my knowledge, the vampires attack cities regardless of you having started dawnguard, though it might be a level requirement trigger, I know that Durak only spawns at level 10+
And I assume by 'I always find him dead' part, this has happened multiple times, but is it always the same character that you keep reloading, or each and every new character?
R.I.P Faendal :'(

It's not like my poaching is hurting anyone, the other hunters can hardly track every deer, can they?

I assume it's the same thing that killed the "crazy" lady talking about dragons in Riverwood. Maybe a random encounter gone wrong. ;o;

I get the feeling you're a Faendal fan. I too have spent many a quest with the blonde ponytailed elf. Ah, a sad loss indeed Vahrukiv.MadAndyD wrote:Firstly, this upsets me greatly,

Re: Faendal...
He's usually the first follower I take and survives well into the game. It's sad when I lose him but I've never found him dead at the very beginning. Sounds like a horrible bug indeed.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Re: Faendal...
Had him as a follower on my first Breton pure mage and sent him home after a few dungeons because I didn't want to be responsible for his death. I feel your pain.

Re: Faendal...
If you have Dawnguard, and are on PC (not sure if you can do this on Xbox), maybe turn off Dawnguard for a while until you're ready to fight vampires? (If you don't know how to do this, on the main screen where you can click play, options, etc., click "Data Files" and then uncheck Dawnguard).

I think you'd have to completely uninstall Dawnguard for that to work.Alarra wrote:If you have Dawnguard, and are on PC (not sure if you can do this on Xbox), maybe turn off Dawnguard for a while until you're ready to fight vampires? No reason to uninstall it. Whether you don't have it installed or simply not loaded makes no difference to the game.Frost Mage wrote:I think you'd have to completely uninstall Dawnguard for that to work.Alarra wrote:If you have Dawnguard, and are on PC (not sure if you can do this on Xbox), maybe turn off Dawnguard for a while until you're ready to fight vampires? I encountered a dead Faendal in one of my games, too. Came right out of Helgen, Riverwood was my first stop and he was lying there dead on the road in front of Lucan's shop. Reloaded a save from when I came out of Helgen Keep, went to Riverwood again and he was alive.

Re: Faendal...
Aarah, I think 'fan' is a little too weak of a statement
I once had to reload a save some 2 or 3 hours back, purely because he fell in battle, too precious.
I'd have to ask the OP again, is this a recurring problem, and can you *holds back tears* cope with it?
I suppose ultimately it's either going to be a one off, or a recurring glitch, and either way your progress is based on whether or not you want to continue with out this pointy-eared incarnation of Green Arrow/elderly Legolas. Whichever you want to call him

Re: Faendal...
I have had this happen to me as well even before Dawnguard came out. I didn't see him when I first arrived at Riverwood however after a nights sleep I go out and behold that he is dead in the middle of Riverwood. I couldn't for the life of me think of any event like a Dragon or something happening while I slept but it ruined that game for me and I started over. Kinda heartless how everyone in town just walked by him not even caring, just buisness as usual.

Re: Faendal...
I have encountered this as well, I think I read somewhere Sven gets into a fight with Faendal and one will end up dead.

Re: Faendal...
I think once a day you should be able to use a resurrection spell to restore a fallen comrade. For those times when youve just spent ages in battle, finish in triumph, then notice your followers dead.
Its so sad seeing that ' search Faendal' text that you see when looting just a stranger. Did you manage to fix the problem Vahrukiv?

Re: Faendal...
No, you don't, because that's what I did for my second character, Ganvar. I just turned off Dawnguard and Dragonborn before starting him, and haven't seen/heard anything from those expansions.Frost Mage wrote:I think you'd have to completely uninstall Dawnguard for that to work.Alarra wrote:If you have Dawnguard, and are on PC (not sure if you can do this on Xbox), maybe turn off Dawnguard for a while until you're ready to fight vampires? Re: Faendal...
Yeah, as in following Ralof/Hadvar into Riverwood from Helgen Keep.MadAndyD wrote: ...when you say new game, are you literally just leaving Helgen and arriving at Riverwood...
I'm almost positive it's level specific.MadAndyD wrote: ...the vampires attack cities regardless of you having started dawnguard
Yeah, this has happened multiple times, all new games, all new characters, all starting at the opening ride into Helgen. (But, it doesn't happen every game, just 1 out of every 5 games.)MadAndyD wrote: And I assume by 'I always find him dead' part, this has happened multiple times, but is it always the same character that you keep reloading, or each and every new character?

I play on Xbox, so that wouldn't work.Alarra wrote:If you have Dawnguard, and are on PC (not sure if you can do this on Xbox), maybe turn off Dawnguard for a while until you're ready to fight vampires? Sorry for not responding sooner. I was... preoccupied.
And also, i went ahead and started another new game yesterday, and he's alive and well.

Re: Faendal...
They start at level 8. I really doubt this happens because of vampire attacks. It's likely an unrelated bug.

But they aren't likely to occur until level 10 or later.
