Speed Runs
For some reason I love watching people speed run games. My personal favourite is this Super Mraio 64 120 star speed run. This guy is crazy!
And since this is an Elder Scrolls forum, here's one of Morrowind completed in 4:19:

Re: Speed Runs
I like how the Mario video is an hour and fifty minutes and the Morrowind is like eight minutes...

Re: Speed Runs
Well, you're comparing an 100% completion speed run to a bare minimum completion speed run. Imagine how long a Morrowind 100% completion speed run would be! I reckon about 15 hours.

Re: Speed Runs
I guess I can appreciate that it's not an easy thing to figure out and a single mistake would ruin the whole run, so the player obviously has some skills, but I also think this is the dumbest possible thing to do with a game like Morrowind (or any other TES game, and many other cRPGs). It's like buying something beautiful and amazing, and then going online and saying "Look, look what I can do with this fantastic thing! I can shove it up my butt! Subscribe!"

I much prefer the ones where people don't use glitches and just complete the normal challenges with insane speed.

The fact that it's totally stupid is what's so great about it!dzio wrote:I guess I can appreciate that it's not an easy thing to figure out and a single mistake would ruin the whole run, so the player obviously has some skills, but I also think this is the dumbest possible thing to do with a game like Morrowind (or any other TES game, and many other cRPGs). I remember watching a Portal speed run a while ago. If that's the same one, then I found it kinda disappointing. For a game with so much potential for a super entertaining speed run, there was just too much glitchy mass section skipping. Parts of it were really good though. If I remember correctly, it was mostly just the last level with all the skipping...

..and you're not saying this about most Morrowind speed-runs?Moeboid wrote:The fact that it's totally stupid is what's so great about it!dzio wrote:I guess I can appreciate that it's not an easy thing to figure out and a single mistake would ruin the whole run, so the player obviously has some skills, but I also think this is the dumbest possible thing to do with a game like Morrowind (or any other TES game, and many other cRPGs). Re: Speed Runs
Not at all. First of all, Morrowind requires no skill no matter how you play it. But also, the glitches used are section skipping glitches. He skips most of the game, sure, but that's not a glitch; the game allows you to do that. The first glitch where he goes through the wall is so that no enemies spawn and the other one is to boost his speed. Having said all this, I actually prefer the following Morrowind speed run because there are hardly any glitches used. A bit slower, of course.

Re: Speed Runs
Nope, that Portal speed run is one where the guy doesn't exploit any out-of-bounds glitches and does every level. Of course he does most of them in ways you aren't supposed to but it's the thought that counts.

Re: Speed Runs
Ahh, well you've inspired me to watch it then.
*watches*
Haha, yes, that one was more entertaining than the one I saw. But it's been so long since I've played Portal (puzzle games don't really have much replay value...) that I'm not recognising the levels and their intended solutions in the brief few seconds he spends in each area. Just means I'm not appreciating his faster, more elegant solutions as much as I might if I knew what he was doing lol. Still, it was fun to watch. By the way, he did use glitches, just not "out of bounds" glitches (the other one that I watched did use this type of glitch).
