Invictus

The girl laughed again.

"Just try. I'll be eating my cake."

She looked very content.

"I love cake."

She flapped her wings, light grey and leathery, though still arranged in feathers.

Riva remained silent for a long moment, before letting out a long sigh. "Bloody hell." She muttered. "Listen. I can give you a bit of help with your disguise, so a guard doesn't just drag you away as soon as look at you. After that, you'd better scat."

"Well, I suppose we better go find him." Cato wrote, heading off in the direction the heptarch had pointed, assuming Alida would follow.

Riva, Timon, Imhotep

The demoness shifted slightly, turning her head half towards Riva in evident, but still angry surprise.

"Oh, great. Pity. Like I haven't got enough of that," she quipped sarcastically.

Alida and Cato

A few hundred meters down, they could see the unmistakable look of cooking steam rising into the air.

"And fattening yourself even more, it seems." muttered Invictus, under his breath.

"Well I say, I too would like a bit of your cake! How about I buy you another one if you give me a bit of yours!" exclaimed Invictus, trying to be friendly towards the demon while he worked out how to escape.

Invictus

"Didn't pay for this one," the girl giggled. "But sure, if you wanna gimme a cake, go ahead."

She swallowed the rest of her pie in one bite, placing both arms on the table, looking expectantly at Invictus with a very happy expression.

Imhotep circled the demoness so that she was facing him.

"Then tell us what you would like us to do. So far everything we have offered has only been met with scorn," he said.

Alida followed Cato. The cooking steam caught her eye and she suddenly felt hungry, although she didn't imagine she'd get a chance to eat anytime soon, after all there was of course far more important things at hand.

Cato also noticed the cooking steam. "You think we should check that out? There's bound to be a lot of people there, perfect place for a guard to patrol."

"All that you can do is wish her well." Riva prophesised grimly. "Listen. I'm going to smudge you up with grease and oil, and give you my apron. It should be enough of an escape for now."

Invictus

"So... Any particular cake or pie? Also, where could one buy such a thi-" Invictus began but stopped in mid sentence.

He brought out his flintlock quickly and held it to the demon's temple, or, at least, tried to, assuming that he was quick enough to do so before the demon could react.

Riva, Timon and Imhotep

"Ooh," came the sarcastic reply, "Little Nanesta gets soot and apron. Oh la-dee-da."

She was looking around frantically.

Alida and Cato

The cooking steam came from a place frying vegetables, garnering a decent crowd. A few guards were watching the crowd from the opposite corner.

Invictus

The girl nodded sagely.

"Ooh..." she giggled. "Wise move. What do you think that will do?"

Cato pointed to the guards. "Let's ask them. Maybe they know where he is." he wrote it, then signed it, attempting to teach something of sign language.

Alida noticed the gestures that Cato made, but couldn't associate what sign meant what. "Good idea, surely one of their own would have stood out to them" she replied, wandering over in the guards direction.

Imhotep, Riva, Timon

"Yes it's my name," the demoness hissed. "And yours sound like barf."

She was flexing her thin fingers over and over, edging towards the far end of the alley, where a large, open barrel holding water stood by a stand.

Alida and Cato

One of the guards, wearing a green feather in his hat, looked at Alida and Cato in a bored manner as they approached.

Invictus

"You'd get a big blop of dead, red meat in a crowded marketplace. You really want that?" the girl giggled, turning so that she instead had the gun's mouth square between the eyes.

"It isn't even a closed cage, you know."

"Well, I guess that such a thing would be mighty unfavourable to both of us, so I suggest you begin walking. For your sake as well as my own." stated Invictus, not trying to sound threatening, merely authoritative, with whatever authority he commanded over this foul demon of darkness that remained to be seen. "Pip-pip, hurry up, we don't have all day, or at least, I can't be bothered waiting all day for you to move. So, stretch your leg muscles and start walking!"

Cato gave the guards a wave, and came up to them. He scribbled out on his paper, "Have you seen a guard by the name of Invictus? He is a friend of ours, and we need to find him. We thought he may have come this way."

Invictus

"Go ahead," the little demon girl said. "Try."

Alida and Cato

The guard who had noticed them before looked at Cato before turning towards Alida:

"Why don't your boyfriend talk?" he asked suspiciously.

Riva, Imhotep, Timon

Nanesta smiled a tiny smile, slowly widening as she inched closer to the barrel, whch was beginning to jiggle slightly.

"You could say that," she mumbled.

Imhotep smiled seeing Nanesta smile. "Do you want me to get it for you?" he asked, walking toward the barrel.

"[&@%!]." Riva murmured. Okay, that's not good. Not knowing what else to do to disrupt whatever destructive spell the Demon was likely channeling, she smoothly pulled out the pistol, cocked it, and blew a hole in the barrel.
