I don't know how, but dragons keep appearing after you finish the main quest. :/ So it's unclear to me how you could ever rescue Skyrim from dragons. Maybe there's theoretically a finite number of them and you could kill "the last dragon"? But you never do it in the game, you can just keep killing them forever and harvesting their sweet sweet souls.
ETA I've never played a save past the end of the MQ (I only actually completed the game once and I was done with that character), but my boyfriend defeated Alduin like nine months ago. He's gained about twenty levels and many, many shouts since then. And don't some dragons spawn automatically in Dragonborn?
Dragon spawns slow down after you beat Alduin but you're right they never actually stop. But as many people point out many times, the way the game works doesn't really reflect what is supposed to be happening in Tamriel much of the time.

Yeah, I just sort of roleplay in my head that five or ten years after the game "ends" the dragons will be gone again.
ETA Unless they start breeding...huh. You never see any dragon eggs in-game.
I'm glad the population mass of Skyrim doesn't know/care about the pc's Dovahkiin abilities. Best to keep such powers on the down low, where the Dragonborn can lead a quiet life. I don't think any of my characters want to be in the next edition of Skyrim's "Paparazzi" magazine: "Read all about it! Dovahkiin busted with a bag full of skooma!"

Dragons do not breed, and Alduin has raised Dragons that have traveled all over Tamriel. They are here to stay, for the time being.

xD Yeah, or be involved in a scandal because someone accused Dovahkiin of getting drunk once and running into a temple naked to trash up the place.
Of course, never mind the increased assassination attempts by the Thalmor. They would not want Dovahkiin and his/her family to live, knowing they posed a threat to them.

I tried to like this comment
The reason dragons continue to spawn is to keep those players wo rushed through the game for dragons entertained.
It's probably also to help ease the transition into the next game. By making the Dovakhiin more anonymous they don't have to define a canon character. All of the most important battles that the Dragonborn fought were in secluded locations (The strongest of them, Miraak and Alduin, weren't even fought on Nirn). It helps to not leave a legacy.

I agree, I would have liked more recognition. I absorbed dragon souls in front of three-quarters of the populace during my playthrough - if that doesn't tell them I'm the almighty Dragonborn, what will?
Still, could be worse. In Daggerfall you NEVER get any recognition, or a title... everyone just continues to treat you as a lowly courier even after completing the main quest and triggering the Warp in the West...
I'm sure the next game will treat us as a great, albeit unknown, hero. The CoC got enough recognition in Skyrim, we heard of his exploits in the book and even met the man.

As well as Dovahkiin found naked in the streets of Whiterun. Claims that a dragon stole his clothes. Or Dovahkiin caught doing a favour for Molag Bal.

It's only heavily implied that we met the CoC. It could be just as likely that it was old Sheo that observed the happenings of the funny little mortal running around causing insanity in Cyrodiil. In my head-canon, some of my CoCs became Sheo, while others hadn't even entered the Shivering Isles.
The dragonborn did solve the dragon menace, the only reason dragons still apear in the game after killing alduin, is because bethesda cant remove the flagship npc from the game because you complete the main quest.. However they only represent the remaining dragons that served alduin.. there will not spawn any more dragons, since they dont breed like other creatures.
