Doros - Oh god. The album list was hard enough. There's just too many songs to choose from. Quick, rough, unordered, list:
Hidden:
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
The Smiths - This Charming Man
OutKast - Hey Ya!
Gnarls Barkley - Crazy
Simon And Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water
Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come
The Beatles - A Day In The Life
The Rolling Stones - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations
The Beach Boys - God Only Knows
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Al Green - Let's Stay Together
Lou Reed - Walk On The Wild Side
The Strokes - Hard To Explain
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son
LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends,
The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out
The Doors - Light My Fire
Wu-Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M.
Missy Elliott - Get Your Freak On
Talking Heads - Once In A Lifetime
He-Who-Likes-Pies - Nice list! I'm familiar with 11 of those and they're all fantastic. In fact, if my list was just 10 or so albums longer, Since I Left You and Sound Of Silver would've been there (actually, perhaps they should've been there anyway... Oh well, glad you mentioned them :)). Strangely, I prefer different albums by a lot of those artists: Homework over Discovery, Return To Cookie Mountain over Dear Science, So This Is Goodbye over Last Exit, OK Computer over Kid A, and The Soft Bulletin over Yoshimi... Still good choices though.

Aesop Rock's Labor Days is my favourite album of all time. It also contains my favourite song of all time: Daylight.

I can't really list after that. Atmosphere's Overcast EP, Both Immortal Techniques Revolutionary Vol. 1 & 2, AOTP's Ritual of Battle, Wu-Tang's Enter the Wu-Tang are all pretty amazing and outside of hip hop Nirvana's Nevermind and Modest Mouses Good news for people who Like bad news are pretty spectacular too and they're just the albums that I thought of off the top of my head. I doubt I could put a top 20 let alone a top 100 together.

I might do a bigger list some time but here's a few in no particular order:

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Nas - Illmatic
Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid M.a.a.d City
Outkast - Speakerboxx/The Love Below
Radiohead - OK Computer
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Boatman's Call
The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love
Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid
The Hold Steady - Boys & Girls In America
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
Tool - Lateralus
Queens of The Stone Age - Songs For The Deaf
Massive Attack - Mezzanine
Daft Punk - Discovery
Daft Punk - Alive 2007
Justice - †
The Chemical Brothers - Push The Button
Beck - Sea Change
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots

I've intentionally not included any older artists as I tend to get best of or compilation albums of their music which aren't proper albums.

1. Everything by Nirvana (I can't choose just 1 :P )
2. Pinkerton- Weezer
3. Daydream Nation- Sonic Youth
4. Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge- Mudhoney

8. People Who Can Eat People Are the Luckist People in the World- ANdrew Jackson Jihad
9. Over the Edge- The Wipers
10. Life Won't Wait- Rancid
Wow, that was hard!
And you have a great list there Moeboid :)

Nice lists :).
ReeceH - Nice to see Nirvana at no#1 :). I would've chosen the blue album as Weezer's best, personally. Nothing wrong with Pinkerton though. I have issues with Joy Division. People expect to see Joy Division in a list like mine, but I just don't rate them as high as other people do. I don't even know if I'd put one of their albums in my top 200. I actually own both Closer and Unknown Pleasures. Might have to go back and listen to them again. Apart from that, nice to see Raw Power included. It was in my list too if you noticed, along with Fun House. Don't know 4, 8, 9 and 10.

Veck - No Veckatimest? Nah, expected as much. Have you heard the Chemical Brothers albums, Dig Your Own Hole or Exit Planet Dust? I'm a huge fan of Exit Planet Dust in particular. There's a good chance it would be number 101 for me. Was one of the last albums I eliminated. Sea Change is a fantastic album. Nice to see that mentioned. Would only have to extend my list a bit before I put it down myself. Have you heard Odelay (in my list) and Mellow Gold though? If not, I highly recommend them. Sea Change is my third favourite Beck album after those two. Nick Cave goes in the Joy Division category: everyone seem to like him except me. I've been meaning to try to get into him for a while now. You seem to have picked the right album though. A few people have told me that The Boatman's Call is his best. Might have to go out and grab a copy. Good to see Illmatic, Songs For The Deaf and The Downward Spiral in there too. Great albums :). Surprised to see Tool. They don't interest me at all. A few people have tried to get me into them but nothing I've heard (just a few songs) has done anything for me. Oh, have you heard Blue Lines? Such a brilliant album. You may have seen it near the top of my list. I prefer it over Mezzanine pretty easily, but Mezzanine is still fantastic. Maybe top 200 for me.

Nirvana will always be my #1 (they sort of have to seeing as I have the logo tattooed on my leg haha!), nothing compares in my eyes. I can understand why people prefer the Blue album (I saw them play it live this year and it was incredible), but Pinkerton really speaks to me (especially my teenage years when I wasn't in the best of places). Joy Division isn't everybodies cup of tea and I can understand that for sure. Pretty much everybody owes homage to Raw Power in some sense so an album like that has to be on there (and it helps that it is so good). Well Mudhoney has early grunge (Superfuzz Bigmuff is their most well know album), Andrew Jackson Jihad is Folk/Accoustic Punk, The Wipers were grunge before it was grunge (around in the early punk era), and Rancid were 90's punk (with a bit of ska thrown in).

My favorite album ever is "Mridanga" by the Mayapuris, which is some of the most beautiful kirtan I've ever heard. Anyone out there that likes world music should check out this album even if its all in Sanskrit.

Close behind are Tool's "Lateralus", Fleetwood Mac's "Greatest Hits", Maddona's "Like a Prayer", Krishna Das "Live on Earth" both cds.

In order, yes but I still think Push The Button's their best, I'm one of those people who thinks that Beck was at his best with Sea Change, NOOOOOOOOOOO don't listen to The Boatman's Call first as it's Nick Cave & A Piano rather than proper Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (Abbatoir Blues should be your first stop), Tool aren't everyone's cup of tea although anyone who dismisses them as bad is a fool and I have heard Blue Lines but I think Mezzanine is a better sound for them. Also no mention of The Flaming Lips being included? For shame, supposed musical connoisseur, for shame.

Only because I'd already done it for someone else haha. And The Flaming Lips were in my list, if you noticed. Yoshimi wasn't there but it'd be in my top 200. Great album. And what's with this love for Discovery?? I thought everyone agreed that Homework was their best. I think Homework is a lot better (thought that might be a minority opinion). Never heard Alive 2007.

Preferred Dear Science because it's got a lot of songs I really love (Dancing Choose, Golden Age, Red Dress, Love Dog, DLZ, Lover's Day). Yoshimi was what introduced me to the Flaming Lips while Discovery was the first album I've ever listened to from beginning to end...and the first I've bought. Kid A meanwhile....well, I just preferred Kid A overall. Tastes and all that jazz.

To add five more:

16. Breezewax and Evan Awake - Prima Vista
17. Gorrillaz - Demon Days
18. MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
19. Aesop Rock - Labor Days
20. The Roots - Things Fall Apart

Gorillaz and MGMT are nice. Been meaning to get into The Roots for a while. Ahh, money (yes, I buy music)... You know, Dear Science might be better than Cookie. I just love Blues From Down Here. Awesome track :).

I want to list some but I can't :(
In high school I owned over 300 rap CD's and I burnt myself out on it. It was around the time the south (CashMoney,Master P, etc.) was getting popular and it all just came across as mindless dribble and even the artist I liked were just producing different versions of their older stuff or going full pop and driving me crazy. Anyways, after that time in my life I became very critical of all music and I honestly don't listen to full albums of any one artist in particular. The only artist that I could possibly tolerate a full album of is Nirvana and maybe The Strokes and one of The Drums albums.

I did however discover something interesting while trying to come up with an album list. According to iTunes my number one played song is Long Goodnight by The Get Up Kids. Interesting because it's pretty much how I feel about life all the time nowadays O_O

Well soooorryyyyy for having like, my own opinion and stuff! Now excuse me, I have to go [&@%!] over these records that I've amassed over years of musical dedication. I've never listened to them, but I don't have to. I know they're good anyway.

Have I mentioned my fine collection of floppy disks containing numerous NES emulators and copies of Galaga? It's the best video game ever made, IMO. Simple, yet deep. Oh, and I also don't use an iPod. I have a discman. Do you even know what that is? No, I don't expect you to. Too bad you'll never experience the superior sound of 192 Kbps MP3 files. And before you mention FLAC, my superior dial-up connection can't download those.

I'd like to add Doolittle by Pixies to my list as I'd been reminded of them thanks to talking about Fight Club. So there, you now all know which side I'm on in the pixies/Nirvana debate.

Wait... There are no Pixies albums in my list! How did this happen!? I won't edit, but imagine Doolittle around 40th somewhere and Surfer Rosa in the 90s. Gah. I hope there's nothing else I've forgotten...

Re: Favourite Albums

Post by Veck »

I'm bored, I forgot a few albums and I can't bring myself to slog through a 100 film list so here's some more:

Pendulum - Immersion
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F♯ A♯ ∞
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Levez Vos Skinny Fists Comme Antennas To Heaven
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - ALLELUJAH! DON'T BEND! ASCEND!
The Weeknd - Trilogy
Arcade Fire - Funeral
The National - High Violet
Kanye & Jigga - Watch The Throne
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Aesop Rock - Labor Days
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion

I get the feeling Moeboid's either going to praise my virtues forever or hate me forever depending entirely on that last inclusion.
