Re: can we talk about Hadvar and Ralof
How come everyone is seeing Hadvar on their characters? I went with Ralof my first play through and when I did the Imperial Legion questline Hadvar was nowhere to be found. (And I am 100 % positive that it was the same character)
Any explanations for this?

Maybe whichever one you don't pick isn't essential and can (but maybe won't necessarily) die in the dragon attack? I have no idea whether it could work that way.FredTheGreat wrote:How come everyone is seeing Hadvar on their characters? Re: can we talk about Hadvar and Ralof
I guess I will start my epic quest to look for Hadvar...
Fortunately I went with him on all my other characters.
And a question to all who followed Ralof out and then joined the Legion. Did you see Hadvar in any of the quests that he is supposed to appear in?

Re: can we talk about Hadvar and Ralof
It's been awhile, but I think Hadvar was missing on the Jagged Crown quest then reappeared for the Battle of Whiterun. It caused a slight hitch with the Jagged Crown as Hadvar is the one who wakes up the draugr at the end, so everyone was just standing around. I had to attack the draugr king myself. I was bummed that Hadvar wouldn't be there and assumed he was dead or out of the game, but he was ther in time for the big fight.FredTheGreat wrote:I guess I will start my epic quest to look for Hadvar...

If you've finished the Civil War questline check in the Sleeping Giant Inn in Riverwood, that's where Ralof or Hadvar hangs out after the war. I'm pretty sure they are there between missions, too.
Re: can we talk about Hadvar and Ralof
So, some quick research:
I happened to be in Riverwood this evening so I popped into the inn. I went with Ralof with this character and I have not started the civil war questline. In the Sleeping Giant Inn I found:
Camilla Valarius
Lucan Valarius
Sven
Alvor
Embry
Delphine
Orgnar
No Ralof or Hadvar there tonight.

Was the same for me. Missing for the Jagged Crown quest, but present at the Battle of Whiterun.Hawthorn wrote:It's been awhile, but I think Hadvar was missing on the Jagged Crown quest then reappeared for the Battle of Whiterun. @Felicia:
If you haven't started the Civil War questline, you won't find them at the inn, but in their relatives house where you dropped them off in the beginning. I don't know how long they're gonna stay there during the questline, though.
Re: can we talk about Hadvar and Ralof
Good to know. In any case, I'm glad to hear they're still alive. I wish one of them had a journal or something so you could read about their feelings and backstory.Belthazor wrote:@Felicia:

I wish more women had deep thoughts about Skyrim, personally. I'm spoken for of course. That's how life works.Felicia wrote:I just tried to discuss this with my boyfriend. He said, "Why are all of your deep thoughts about Skyrim?" He doesn't appreciate me.
As for the two boys from Riverwood, I'm sure they knew one another growing up. They'd have pretty much had to have.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.
Re: can we talk about Hadvar and Ralof
My boyfriend (astutely) observed that I am thinking about Skyrim to avoid thinking about my final exams and impending law school graduation and bar study period. I told him, "If there were a killcam animation for law finals I would feel more confident about them."Pilaf The Defiler wrote:I wish more women had deep thoughts about Skyrim, personally. Re: can we talk about Hadvar and Ralof
This is something I remember thinking about on the first day I played Skyrim. I always thought they were childhood friends and later brothers in the Legion. Legate Rikke even alludes to this in the Jagged Crown:
"I realize some of you may know men on the other side. But remember this. They are the enemy now and will not hesitate to end your lives either"and "But don't underestimate the Stormcloaks. Many are Legion veterans. They may be traitors, but they know how to fight."

In my personal opinion, both Hadvar and Ralof should of been Marriage Options. Hadvar has one of the most amazing voices in Skyrim, but both he and Ralof you can't marry unless you are on the PC and hack them.

Re: can we talk about Hadvar and Ralof
I actually went to check, and lo and behold found myself reading a few steamy fanfics of Hadvar and Ralof engaged in pleasurable love. Oh, internet... xD But true, you'd think Hadvar and Ralof's families would have something to say about the other guy. I mean, the two men would have grown up together in Riverwood. Even if they didn't say anything, surely their families must have some opinion about two possibly former best friends now fighting against each other.baratron wrote:Oh, believe me, there's a fair bit of fanfic about Hadvar and Ralof already ;D. Most of the humble anons at the Skyrim Kink Meme have decided that they're obviously ex-lovers, so there are angsty stories about them breaking up because of choosing different sides in the Civil War. I may have contributed to this myself (*cough*).
But yes, I really loathe Gameplay and Story Segregation. Since you can do quests and questlines in any order, NPCs only rarely change their dialogue to reflect that you have done something. This is annoying a lot of the time, since it leads to some rather unrealistic conversations. However, given that Unbound is the first quest in the game, you'd have thought the family of whichever of Hadvar or Ralof you didn't choose to follow should ask about them!
As far as whether they lived or not, I'm not sure. I've never escaped Helgen with one side, then went to join the other. It was almost always the side I escaped with in the first place. This time however, I'm playing two characters that escaped with one side, but will now fight with the other.
I don't think one or the other dies in Helgen, but maybe were relocated elsewhere, and you just didn't run into them during the war?
And yes, you should've been able to marry one of them. My Breton female always thought Hadvar was hot, and in my head-canon, she eventually marries Hadvar.

Re: can we talk about Hadvar and Ralof
Ralof sticks around Hod and Gerdur's house after you follow him. He'll stay there until you do the crown quest, and then he'll go back later. I've never seen Hadvar around Riverwood after following Ralof, which is what I do most of the time. It's been a long time since I've gone very far in the civil war quests so I don't remember if Hadvar shows up during any of the missions.Felicia wrote:So, some quick research:

There is a lot of characters that should have been marriageable. They both make sense because you meet them and you actually help each other.unokitsune wrote:In my personal opinion, both Hadvar and Ralof should of been Marriage Options. I still can not believe that you can't marry any Khajiit. Kinda ruins certain role plays. :/

Re: can we talk about Hadvar and Ralof
In one playthrough I escaped Helgen with Ralof, leaving Hadvar behind at the earliest possible opportunity. I then went on to join the Stormcloaks.Kavatch99 wrote: ...As far as whether they lived or not, I'm not sure. I've never escaped Helgen with one side, then went to join the other. When it came time to deliver the Jagged Crown, however, I betrayed the Stormcloaks and gave it to the Imperials instead. I was now a member of the Legion.
At the Battle of Whiterun this soldier comes running up who seems vaguely familiar. It's Hadvar, and he greeted me as if we were old pals. I guess the trauma of Helgen made him block out the memory about what I actually did with him there.

Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

I don't believe he is a target for the Brotherhood, I think it is Ma'randru-jo.

Re: can we talk about Hadvar and Ralof
I could have sworn you ran into the character you chose not to side with later in the game, the most likely place being the Battle of Whiterun. Too bad it's only brass invited to the Greybeard's Summit, I bet the three of you (Hadvar, Ralof, and Dragonborn) would make it preeety awkward.

say it isn't so!! I haven't done the whole DB quest line for a while, and I discovered Kharjo in a more recent playthrough. I would never kill Kharjo, my heart couldn't take it.

This is correct - I actually have that quest now, I just can't catch up to him. :pDikaSmausha wrote:I don't believe he is a target for the Brotherhood, I think it is Ma'randru-jo.

Wow I regret taking time off to do life, this is an awesome topic and I missed most of it!
I wanted to marry Hadvar, too
They are both interesting, and I've always wondered if they were friends before, too. I was worried that we killed the other one when we ran through the Helgen keep killing all the opposing soldiers, glad to hear that is not true!
And I was really glad to hear that other people only have deep thoughts about Skyrim! I get worried about me sometimes, and my friends (most are not gamers) are like "um. ok."
So... these fanfics... this is a really dumb question... where do most TES fanfics reside? ff.net? (wait, they don't do kink, do they?) LJ communities? Sorry I haven't read fanfics in eons, but now I wish to
