I've been playing Morrowind lately, but most interior locations and night-time outdoor locations are incredibly dark. I frequently have to use night eye in just about any location that isn't outside at daytime.
I'm currently modding with the Morrowind Overhaul 3.0 mod, with lighting settings set to "Realistic Brighter". I don't have ambient occlusion or any other lighting effects enabled like bloom/rays/shadows/etc. I do have distant terrain on, so I'm thinking that the lack of fog may be making things harder to see, but could that be the only problem? Also, the gamma settings in the menu do seem to brighten things up, but after moving the slider and letting go, everything just resets to the way it was before.
The brightness on my monitor is already at maximum, and it is a new monitor.
So what can be done to make things brighter?
This game is dark!

The game itself isn't dark at all. Bethesda tends to make the ambient light so bright that even in the middle of the night, you can see perfectly fine without a torch, Light or Night-Eye spell. It's the Morrowind Overhaul 3.0 that makes it a lot darker. It comes with 3 different lighting settings, though, if I remember correctly. If the "Realistic Brighter" version is too dark for you (I'm using the same, by the way, so I know that it is quite dark indeed), simply use another setting.

Re: This game is dark!
Well hang on there for a second. I notice on my computer that the game is a lot darker if you use the default lighting settings, to the point where you do kind of need a light source when exploring some place dark. If you switch to quadratic lighting, which I did to optimize frame-rate so I could get 60fps with this game on a machine from 2001, the lighting actually does happen to be a lot brighter and thus lessens the need for light sources in most any place dark and spooky. So perhaps it could be something other than this newfangled Morrowind Overhaul you guys are using, though I cannot verify that because if I attempt to use that sort of thing I am going to bet that my computer is going to overheat and die. I just thought I would bring up the whole bit with quadratic lighting is all.

Dark indeed, I had to turn the gamma setting up a bit.
